So what do you define as "a certain time". If I'm paying $7k a year, I'm pretty sure I could rock up with 5 minutes to go and still be quite justified with the timing of my arrival.
Depends, some would say yes, some would say no. I have little problem with the AFL re-selling largely unused seats.

Exhibit A: A spoiled Victorian footy fan.
I go there week in week out and on the whole it's great, but there's just something about it I don't enjoy. Maybe it's something you only get going there regularly. I've noticed interstate fans on here who have come over once or twice love it compared to Footy Park/Subi. And in terms of facilities/location, it is miles ahead. But it just feels...empty. Soulless. The fact it's up against the MCG, which Victorians on here would go to weekly/regularly may also be what it is. Compared to the G it's nothing.

Subiaco has a long, proud history. I'd still take Etihad every time. I've been to both quite a number of times and I actually prefer it to the MCG.

It does lack something, perhaps it's the fact it looks basically the same all around the ground, no sense of character or anything. Plus it's inferior to the MCG in nearly every way.

As for your comment referring to the interstate grounds, AO is going to leave it for dead, as will the new Perth stadium too probably.

Looking at getting over for our game against Port there. Failing that, whenever the Suns/Giants visit. Looks like it'll be great.

Nothing beats the MCG. But etihad is a top class venue. We're lucky to be so spoiled for choice here people can look down their noses at it.
Yeah, I know I'm in the minority in liking Etihad better. Anyway, it's irrelevant to the debate, it's still a high quality stadium.

You overlook one small fact.

The AFL don't own those seats, hence the $7k yearly premium attached to them.

So they have no business even thinking about selling them.

There are usually no shortage of Medallion Club seats or Axcess One seats on eBay for Etihad Stadium games

A lot of Medallion Club tickets are given by companies to clients, I'm sure a lot of clients look at a ticket and go Saints v Demons - thanks but no thanks and bin them

In the specific case of the Saints v Melbourne match, "poor" clubs like the Saints always complain about their deal at Etihad Stadium. However, the Saints would have made significantly more $ from the gate if an extra 1,000-2,000 people had bought the $62 Level 2 tickets rather than the $24 level 3 tickets. Discounting the level 2 tickets for Saints Home matches doesn't help the Saints make more $$$

and that's why you can't turn a profit at Etihad, multiple attendants protecting empty seats.
How does the protection of seats translate to lost revenue?

People are in the stadium regardless. The fact that they can't pay for a shit seat and move to a good one is inconsequential.

Unless you're suggesting people won't go because they can't "rort the system", in which case I'd say there are far more deep-seated issues (pardon the pun) to deal with in terms of weak as piss "supporters".

Well sure, until the guy that paid $50 a game for his face value $65 reserved seat finds out that the club is now flogging the seats around him off for $30. Then he's going to be pissed off that he's being screwed, and he probably won't get that reserved seat next season.

It's generally considered good business practice not to piss off your regular customers.
Geelong were offering a 2 for 1 ticket deal just last Wednesday for their game v Adelaide at Simmonds stadium

Or some of the low drawing clubs could for their members and do a "bring a mate for free" game offer like the Melbourne storm are doing tomorrow night.

And a lot of clubs (Dogs, North) already do this against the low-drawing clubs.

But they are (same with Geelong's offer) not selling seats someone else bloody well owns or saying "hey - buy a cheap ticket and we'll whack you on level two centre wing instead".

Completely unrelated to the topic at hand.

Level 2 would be very profitable...

Not many attendants required at all

The venue would be much more profitable if those with level 3 tickets had a separate entry point and couldn't enter the level 1 areas

I think you missed my point here. I was referring to cost, not revenue.

fair point, the venue is way overstaffed for lower drawing games.

This thread is a blight on Bigfooty.

Sure, but I assume they'll buy Etihad for the one dollar fee once that date arrives.
And if they keep the Medallion club as it currently is, they still won't sell them because it's bad business.

Correct. Medallion Club is the Etihad "golden goose", as it were.

Yeh I don't quite know what his problem was - But it was funny cos he ended up moving after half time -

I admit I do have a bit of a penetrating voice. I guess normally being the odd Crows supporter in a crowd full of Vics I tend to stand out a bit. Quite often it gets to the point if there are kids around me they start looking up and waiting for my reaction if something goes against Adelaide -
