There were some great tv shows back in the 90s, Seinfeld, Married With Children, The X-Files, The Simpsons was at it's peak and South Park started in the late 90s.

We didn't have the choice of FTA channels we have these days, we just had the ABC, 7, 9, 10 and SBS which you only watched for erotic foreign films.

Copious amounts of weed.. Seems I spent most of the 90s bouncing from dealers in the daytime and bouncing from bouncers in the night time... As the decade wore on things became more sinister and I won 10K at Crown and got the fu** out of dodge... Right into Surfers Paradise... 2000.

90s we're great, I started at 16 and ended at 33, then went back to 22 in 2000. LSD also was a regular feature in the early-mid90s, while Ecstacy was a feature in the mid-late 90s. Sex was on tap. Drugs were on tic.

You sound like a 90s version of Les Norton, I smoked a fair bit of weed back then too, then in the late 90s I went to the UK and swapped weed for pills.

Drugs were better back then.

1990-1992: Primary School
1993-1997: High School
1998-1999: Started Working

90s were great.

Started following AFL. Loved going to the SANFL. Early 90s double headers at Footy Park were great as a kid.

Started heading interstate more for footy weekends. Would often go to see as many games as possible.

Fri night, Sat day, Sat night, Sunday, Mon night (95 onwards) etc

Went overseas to America, did the whole Disneyland thing. Was amazing at the time.

School at the time seemed tough but looking back was straight forward. I was, still am, pretty quiet and not in the cool group or not the scrubber group so just floated with a few mates.

Started working at HJs in 98. Really gives you the skills to work under pressure, deal with people, follow schedules, team work, etc for future jobs and life. Loved working there.

And of course fell in Love with the West Coast Eagles early 1990s. Earliest memory was watching a Fri night game on tv WCE v Foots. Sumich kicked 13. From there I was absolutely hooked. Cannot picture footy before that. Any games from before that game I can't Remember anything about. Saw us play Adel at footy park a couple of weeks later with my dad and got an Eagles scarf and remember the atmosphere and smells and it was all so exciting. Helps that we won too

Good old 90s.

I became a Saints supporter in the early 90s, followed Subi in the WAFL prior to that and didn't like West Coast so had to pick another AFL team to follow.

Eventually settled on the Saints due to them having some great players like Lockett, Harvey, Loewe and Winmar and they were the perennial underdogs.

Footy was better back then.

After school TV: Fresh Prince, Degrassi, Vidiot, Amazing, Double Dare.. Before school TV: Aggros Cartoon Connection/The Smurfs
Double Dare was great, they don't seem to make messy shows like that anymore. That thing with the rollers looked scary, it would take a leap of faith to go into that.

lol at the incredibly blatant Pepsi product placement and I always wonder what happened to the red headed mullet kid.

The T2 action scenes look so old school now, the dam chase is done in real locations and with body doubles, continuity errors, wires, inconsistent lighting. These days they would green screen the hell out of it, and rightly so. Still, there's something charming about an action scene put together like that, you can see all the effort that must've gone into it.

Try growing up in the country where we only had 2 channels for a lot it! GWN were also absolutely ****ed back then at how many ads they would put into anything prime time when there was no competing station.

Triple J was better back then, when they played proper rock and not just sh*tty rap and dance music, better hosts too like Mikey, Helen Razer and The Sandman.

One thing that wasn't better was the internet, we didn't even have it for the first half of the decade and then when it did arrive it was only dial up which made the NBN look like lightning, these days you get pissed off if a video your streaming buffers for a second or two but back then it would take a day or two to download it.

Can't remember the start of the '90s but turned 12 and finished primary school in 1999. So I'm probably in the last generation who can really remember what life was like before the internet. We got some DOS piece of crap in the early 90s but no recognisably Windows computer with the internet until 1997. We need a separate thread on the history of the internet.

Our SBS picture was grey and shitty (until 2002 when we got a better aerial ). South Park and 1998 (& 2002) FIFA World Cup looked like crap.

After the ABC kids' shows finished at 6pm me and my brother almost never had it on ABC by choice.

We got the Perth channels but a generally crappy looking GWN too. Which was useful because it wasn't just a copy of Seven quite yet. Could pick up WIN when that started in 1999 but it was a bit who cares by then.

I'd feel like ****ing punching a TV if it looked that bad today.

Yeah a lot of people couldn't get SBS or get a clear picture of it if they didn't have the right aerial.

We got a decent picture but I hardly ever watched it as there wasn't much worth watching, now I probably watch SBS more than the main commercial channels.

Taping songs off the radio to cassette tape + movies/shows onto video.

Even better for the latter, watching it while recording and taking the ads out.

Video rental stores were at their peak back in the 90s with the Blockbuster and Video Ezy franchises, don't think there any left these days.

New episodes of The Simpsons on Ten were appointment viewing. And 6pm or 7pm weeknight repeats if dad didn't make us watch something comparatively boring like Seven Nightly News or ABC News. Remember getting angsty if we thought we'd miss the start of the new 7.30pm Simpsons episodes because of ABC News.

Seven really seemed like the Perth channel for some reason. Like the default you'd have it on if The Simpsons wasn't on. Had the AFL which probably helped. This was when people really didn't know the difference between rugby league and rugby union and they were rarely on anyway.

Could be wrong but pretty sure was it one in WA was one of two Blockbusters left in the world, until it closed last year. Other one was somewhere in the States. In Vic my local ones closed several years, Greensborough was open I think for a while after that tho.

Edit: was this year

Wrestling in the 90s was so much better

I didn't get into wrestling until 1999 but yeah it changed completely in the 90s. In the space of two years (1996-98) it went from the family-friendly, reasonably dorky thing it had always been to explicitly adult and sexualised. It's not as sexualised today (the rest of TV has caught up and gone well past it anyway) but it changed forever.
