Was watching the NBA replay last night and the news bar at the bottom said that Salt Lake City would host the 2023 All Star Game and that it marked the 30th anniversary of the last time they did and how Stockton and Malone (Utah players) were co-MVPs. My initial reaction was 'I didn't realise they were playing that long ago', not that 30 years ago from 2023 was actually 1993 not 1983.

Today and Sunrise had some desk banter and celebrity interviews in the 90s but were otherwise pretty much straight news shows. What turned them to shit was ****ing Adam Boland joining Sunrise, aping American shows and boganifying their formula. It won ratings so Today followed suit. Adam Boland is why David Koch, Melissa Doyle and Karl Stefanovic are celebrities. Adam Boland deserves a painful death.

Makes me feel old when people keep mentioning kids programs from the 90s.

I was watching shows like Recovery, which was a great live music show on the ABC on Saturday mornings hosted by Dylan Lewis, it was an apt name as usually you watched it recovering from a hangover from the night before.

Don't forget Ren and Stimpy.

Yeah that was another big cartoon back in the 90s, especially with stoners, I didn't watch the cartoon that much but I used to play a Ren and Stimpy game on Sega mega drive with stoner mates of mine where one of you played as Ren and the other one played as Stimpy and it was funny as hell.

The League of Gentlemen started back in 1999, one of the greatest British comedy shows of all time.






It followed the fine tradition of great British comedy shows like Monty Python where all the women characters were played by men but it was a lot darker.

Like Monty Python it wasn't that popular initially as it was shown late at night on BBC2 but it caught on by word of mouth and became a cult favourite.

I was in the UK at the time it was being shown and I didn't even know about it initially, The Fast Show, Trigger Happy TV and Ali G were all big there at the time as they were shown in prime time. I only found out about it from an Aussie mate of mine there who had the same comedy taste as me and he said you've got to see this League of Gentlemen show, it's f**king brilliant, and he was right. Only the Poms could create a comedy show like this and it was so dark the Yanks didn't even try to rip it off like they did with The Office or Fawlty Towers, there was no way they could even go close to replicating it.

I can't remember whether it was late 80s or early 90s but Nothing Ever Matters by Del Amitri struck a chord with my teenaged ennui. Song still sounds good thirty odd years later.
