Male sports presenters were everywhere.

I notice nowadays, there are more and more women in sports media, from hosting sports segments on the news, to reporting on sport.

I reckon up until a few years ago, this was still the case.

Surely you remember Pixie Anne Wheatley?

Not many better sports media women than Debbie Spillane who was a reporter and host on the ABC back in the 90s.

Not her best photo but she was respected even back in the old sexist 80s and 90s days, she was a rarity though.

Who the hell is Sally Struthers ?
At the time she was in All In The Family.
In the 2000's she was the neighbour in Gilmore Girls.

This band was huge back in 1999.

They don't write songs like this anymore.

Hard to believe it's over 20 years ago now, where has the time gone.

Love these old 90s AFL sports News clips.

Great memories...

Also had to rewind a couple times to check... yep thats an Dunstall v Ablett match up.

Geez the AFL doing Bulldogs fans no favours there

Back on topic.

The first Goo Goo Doll's hit from A Boy Named Goo back in 1995.

MEDIA=youtube]-CR8ARqjReI[/MEDIA]

They exploded in 1998/1999 with Dizzy Up the Girl with hits like Iris and Slide

This song was a solid third single.

The Goo Goo Dolls are up there with the likes of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots and Tool as one of the great US bands of the 90s imo.

ha ha. Weird seeing Ablett playing full back in last quarter. WTF?

1999 was also the year the greatest UK comedy ensemble since Monty Python started.

The League of Gentlemen started much the same way as Monty Python, tucked away late on the BBC before turning into a cult comedy phenomenon.

Watched neither so her name had no association to anything of note when saw the name.
My daughter was a big fan of Gilmore Girls when she was growing up, I don’t remember All in the Family either, I’m not even sure it was shown in Australia.
I do think her interview with Norman is brilliant, she was totally on the same wavelength and when she told Norman he should use an Electric razor and he said he does, it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

I reckon Sweet Sally Struthers is probably better known today because of pop culture references than anything she actually did

Was it on channel 2? We weren't allowed commercial tele unless it was sport.
I think it was on 9 or 7 ?
More likely 7 as Gunston was 7 I think and they usually like to keep their "stars"/ cross advertising together

Lol. Some of the "rules" parents had back then. You and I are about the same vintage and I reckon our generation was brought up with the last vestiges of the old sensibilities. When I was a kid all my friends parents were referred to Mr or Mrs. Now kids call their teachers by their first name.

The day your old enough to cross over from Mr/Mrs to first name is the weird one.

Never understood what Mr or Mrs has to do with respect anyway.

Imo “**** off mr Smith” is just as disrespectful as “**** off Robert”. I don’t think adding the Mr makes it more respectful, works the other way too.

My folks were really informal like that and always insisted on being called by their first names and their friends were like that too. The only person who took an honorific title was my gran who as head of the family was known as Granny to all and sundry.

And elevating every adult to the point they are worthy of a title isn’t that good I reckon.

What have we gotten from forcing kids to bow and scrape to their elders? A string of royal commissions into abuse.
