Carn. Apart from my pathological disgust for North Melbourne's existence in the AFL, I reckon SLF and I would be mates...... although I kind of think you may have been a bit like the 90's version of Silent Alarm, but 20 something know it alls are probably more palatable when you are in your 20s.

Oh have no doubt on the me being like 90s Silent Alarm - was discussed earlier with Gough

The 1994 world cup got me into soccer, apart from the final it was a very entertaining world cup.

Also I don't think any other world cup has had better playing kits!

I remember England failed to qualify for that World Cup which caused a lot of angst amongst Poms who thought it was their divine right to qualify.

They adopted Ireland as their team who were pretty popular in the States too with their strong Irish heritage.

They beat Italy who went on to make the final.

Another memorable moment from the 1994 World Cup where Diana Ross showed off her penalty shot skills.

My earliest memory of gaming would have to be this.

How many bands get better after a decade or more? Not really an era specific thing.

The Rolling Stones have been pumping out tunes since 1963 but if you took 1963-1973 out of the catalogue they would be just another average band with a following rather than a cultural icon like The Beatles, Elvis etc. that everyone knows.

AC/DC from the mid 70s, Metallica from the early/mid 80s, Foo Fighters from the mid 90s, U2 were around in the early 80s but hit it big with the Joshua Tree in 1987 then had their run of 3 or 4 big albums until the mid to late 90s. They all have 5-10 years of great albums then it mostly tails off after that. Pretty common for a band to have a couple of popular albums then coast off that success with tours for the next 20 years, releasing the odd album that isn't any good but enough people buy it to make it worthwhile. Who goes along to a Cold Chisel gig wanting to hear The Last Wave of Summer, No Plans and The Perfect Crime?

Laughable!, Lennon died in 1980.

Springsteen had 'secret garden' and 'streets of philadelphia' in the 90's, both tracks were all over radio and tv.

You don't have to to be alive, to reach true fame. Lennon didn't get true fame till he died, lasted around a decade

Those songs of the boss were good, but every song on born in the USA were better

You'll find in Springsteen circles the tracks off USA are not considered among his greats.

With BTR at least half that album will be in people's top 10 or 20.

USA is good, but is very radio friendly and poppy.

Let's not try and argue Glory Days is better than Jungleland, Backstreets, Thunder Road or Born To Run.

What part of glory days didnt you get? The bit where he visits his mates wife, who is now a single mother and remembers the times they would drink and orgy? One for the ages.

I suppose something young people just don't understand. There was a theme to that albulm. Men serving bored women.

Hey Little girl is your daddy home, did he go and leave you all alone.

The boss.

Nothing to do with my age. And not sure if you're being facetious or not, but that definitely was not a theme.

I like the USA album. Seeing it performed live in full was brilliant, and the most fun show I've been to.

But again, as I said, among the tragics, and there are many of us, it's not really considered one of his best albums.

For me the best track on there by far and away is Downbound Train. Bobby Jean and My Hometown not far behind.

1998 is the first FIFA World Cup I remember.

I remember that mostly for David Beckham getting sent off against Argentina with a red card.

He copped a lot of grief back in England for costing them the World Cup which was pretty harsh as it was a soft red card.

France beating Brazil in the final was a big upset at the time too as Brazil were red hot favourites, Ronaldo falling ill before the final was a big factor.

My Hometown is my favourite song off that album, it was the old school working class Springsteen from his early days.

Anyway enough about Springsteen, this is supposed to be a 90s thread, bloody Cruffy hijacking another thread with his Springsteen talk.

Newspapers hasn't come up. Did Sydney and Melbourne having Fairfax but Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide not really make a difference? I don't mean politics (we know the answer to that) but when Sydney Morning Herald/The Age got a big exclusive did a 1995 person in the other cities hear about it?

I didn't mention him initially lol.

But yes, that's a great song.

Getting back to 90s music The Bloodhound Gang were underrated, they paved the way for the clever funny rap lyrics that Eminem became famous for.

"'Let's do it doggy style so we can both watch X-Files" is one of the great 90s rap lyrics of all time.

In 1999 Eminem exploded with this song.

Dr Dre was quick to sniff the breeze, making rap songs by a white guy with funny pop culture references to appeal to middle America instead of rap songs by black gangstas talking about bitches and shooting each other in the hoodz of New York and LA was going to be more of a money spinner.

Eminem and Dre were the dynamic duo of rap in the late 90s and early 2000s #peakrap

This video spells it out, Eminem was the Robin to Dre's Batman.

It's been all downhill for rap ever since.

I'm sure our resident expert in rap William Wonka will back me up here.
