A stadium full of people boo-Ing the AOTY is a very ugly form of censoring. What's more, it not only censors Adam but also the next generation of aboriginal players.

I hate to say this - and yes I accept it is racist - but this is such a typical white thing to do. Why are we such a frightened race??
glory be me.... Talk about a racist in the midst!

Imagine if someone had said "Such an Aboriginal thing to do"

pfft

And still didn't answer my question, and said it was meant to divide when it clearly says "The ultimate reward is when all Australians see each other as equals and treat each other as equals. To me, everything is about people and the choices we make. I believe it’s the people and the interactions between us that makes this country so special. Thank you so much and have a great Australia Day."

Anyway - I'm done with a troll like you.
So you are saying he didn't say the words Invasion Day?

FFS WAS. He is saying that he is willing to move past it, only Blind Freddy couldn't see that. It's basic reading comprehension. Sorry to be blunt, but it's been said so many times.

This is further reinforced by the next part of the speech.

"But in the last five years, I’ve really changed my perception of what is Australia Day, of what it is to be Australian and for me, it’s about celebrating the positives, that we are still here as indigenous people, our culture is one of the longest surviving cultures in the world, over 40,000 years.

“That is something we need to celebrate and all Australians need to celebrate.

“There are people out there thinking that today is a great day for Australia — well, it is.

“It’s a day we celebrate over 225 years of European settlement and right now, that’s who we are as a nation but we also need to acknowledge our fantastic Aboriginal history of over 40,000 years and just know that some Aboriginal people out there today are feeling a little bit angry, a little bit soft in the heart today because of that, and that’s OK as well.”

tl;dr ;)

I have met one group of people who kind of do - some Maoris. It's completely unique and interesting
That's true.
And the fact that they signed a treaty with the settlers and developed a partnership is most likely the reason.

Unfortunately, the aboriginal community was classified under the flora and fauna act here, so no partnership was possible.

Go back a post. I said I don't agree with most of what he says. I do however defend his right to say it as long as it is not racist
Oh, I agree and I didn't mean to "lump you in" with the majority of his comments. Was just saying that his opinion on THIS matter is not necessarily the only reason people would think him racist.

I've posted extensively before in this thread but I'm now feeling this whole situation is so complex and so inflamed with emotion, misinformation and pride that nothing useful will come out of it in the near future. Most people have pretty much just chosen a side and won't budge no matter what is said. Saddens me.

Have we become that much of a nanny state that I can't exercise my freedom of speech through a boo. There is nothing defamatory in it, nothing sexist and nothing racist. Yet now if I do it I will be called a racist.

Feel like going to his next match with a video camera, boo him and then sue the pants of every prick who calls me racist because that is defamation.

In all seriousness though, Goodes isn't the first person (indigenous or non-indigenous) to use the term "Invasion Day" and certainly won't be the last. For me, I just hope I have enough money to buy cheap booze and ciggies come 'Straya Day.

Becuase his opinion is different than yours he is a racist. FFS mate really. Just because people are not of the same thoughts as you doen;t make them a racist. You really are beyond it you know. You are very un-Australian because you do not support someone else having their own opinion.
Welcome to ignore flog
Oh no the ignore list, my heart bleeds.

No, just because someone doesn't have the same opinion that I do, does not make them a racist. Andrew Bolt, however has enough runs on the board to suggest that he has some racist ideas.

But you know, call me a flog, call me un-australian, because I have a different opinion to you must make me both those things. Thanks for giving a great example of un-floggy Australian-ness by obviously welcoming me to have my own opinion with your post. Makes sense.

surely even the most one eyed goodes supporters will admit that the AFL coming out and comdemning booing makes goodes look weak as piss and has in fact done much more harm than good to this whole situation.

It shows your deeply seated racism towards the Chinese. And worse still, appealing to the fear and bigotry of the others to get your point across. Absolutely disgusting.
I could have used any people who were ethnically and culturally different, and able to dominate us militarily. The point is to illustrate the level of injustice that indigenous people in Australia have faced at the hands of the British not to demonise Chinese. I like Chinese culture, I am more or less Taoist in philosophy and practiced shaolin Kungfu.
