he didn't put anything on the line, except fuelling the Adam Goodes media train.

He intended to put that kid on the line to further his cause, regardless of her age or what damage he might do to her, that was not of any concern to him. It has now backfired on him, probably not just because of that one act, but a combination of things he has done that people don't agree with.
Absolute nonsense mate.

Goodes did something ridiculously courageous in not tolerating racial abuse.

The fact that we're arguing about that is disgusting.

Where else do people boo?

Why is it considered a thing to do at the footy? Where did it come from?

You dont really see it at any other sport - tennis, maybe - but cant imagine a bunch of people following a golfer around a golf course booing his every action.

You dont see it in society in general - i've never seen anyone boo another person walking down the street, i've never seen it at school, university, nightclubs. The only thing i can think of is a protest - but even then people can usually manage to string a few words together to express themselves rather than just make noise.

Yet here we are with a bunch of people trying to justify themselves with all sorts of ridiculous reasons why its ok to incessantly make derogatory noise at a person for a good three hours every weekend.

If you want to boo, for whatever reason, go ahead.
But IMO, why not come up with some words to use, make yourself look more intelligent than an angry caveman.
Question time in parliament comes to mind

Mate you've got me, we can't justify making any noise in a public place. Actually there's no rational reason for being at the football in the first place. **** it I'm taking up yoga.

EPL back in a week thank christ
Why do you think i say any noise?

Im interested to understand your opinion because clearly you think its something that should be done, yes?

What do you think the reason behind booing someone is. IMO its such a strange thing to do.

Tell me then. What is racism to you?
That's funny, I thought you weren't going to waste any further time responding to me? I guess a warrior like you just can't help himself.

To answer your question, I go by the actual definition:

"the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races."

"prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior."

Based on these definitions, there's no way you can conclusively claim that everyone who boos him is a racist; that is, unless you're an obnoxious bigot, which you most certainly are.

BREAKING: AFL about to launch powerful new video campaign promoting responsible barracking at the footy @superfooty

Jesus Christ, so this is what it's come to. To people who now go to the footy, always stay seated, keep your arms by your sides at all times, gold clap for when your team scores a goal, golf clap when the opposition team scores a goal. Actually, we will no longer be keeping scpres of games. Everyone is a winner come the final siren, and all players will be chaired off after a hard fought contest.

Carry on
And don't forget to watch the gambling adds on the screen.

the question is: if there are racists everywhere (a given) then why aren't sydney swans supporters booing him?

a) there are no racists in sydney.

b) it's not a racial thing.

BWAHAHAHAHA this is the dumbest comment of the whole thread (and that's saying something)

The AFL has already called its paying customers sheep, racist, bigots & morons.

What else would you expect?

Would you people like the AFL to do a how to go to bed video as well :)
Maybe they'll take after the tennis and have the Video Umpire using the announcement system to call for "quiet, quite please" during play.

I've acknowledged that Goodes is booed for a variety of reasons. My acknowledgement is something you've failed to comprehend. But you've generally just been trolling this thread for reactions, so it's expected.
Your stance, however, is that the booers are racist DESPITE acknowledging the many reasons people dislike him.

FFS? Seriously? Which Nimrod at the AFL concocted this one? Gilligan it has your DNA and fingerprints all over it.

I am sure the TAFE sector is working hard on a "Certificate for the Responsible Serving of Boos". :drunk:

Can we be sure he was aware of the girls age when he pointed her out? I thought his explanation and readiness to speak to her about how her taunt is very hurtful to indiginous Australians the next day was fair. If nothing else it put on public record that "Ape" is an insulting slur. Based on some of the reaction in the aftermath of that night it is clear that many people were unaware of that fact. Lets get fair dinkum, for a great many posters on Bigfooty who have outed themselves lately as, if not racist, completely ignorant of the racial divide in this country, it would not have mattered whether the person involved was 14 or 41.
yes he said he thought she was "about 14"

So i am guessing the afl and stadiums will be getting rid of the watered down mid strength beers, the gambling ads, the food that can cause obesity, the club songs, and fireworks...?

Dallas Scott, respected aboriginal blogger, very interesting read, from as he puts it, "an urban blackfella":

http://theblacksteamtrain.blogspot.com.au

"As Adam walks out for his next game, before making his way onto that perfectly manicured stadium lawn, I suggest he take a deep, slow breath and reflect upon the reality of his life. Rather than having to emerge from the sheds for the ‘coloured people’, kept separate from the white folks playing beside him, he will run out after being supported by his entire team, not kept to the back. When he is thirsty, he doesn’t have to take a drink at the appropriately labelled drinking fountain, set aside for only folks with his racial identity, but rather will be served like a prince, with a special servant whose only job is to provide refreshments for the thirsty players, regardless of their skin colour or heritage. As he drives his brand new sports car to training, where he looks around at the other players arriving in their equally expensive vehicles and stops to realise he is paid just as much as them, if not more, he should perhaps pause a moment and wonder about whether he is fighting a war that has already been won, and instead of complaining from his position at the top, realise how those on the bottom rungs might be sick of hearing him whinging and would much rather he just got on with life."

read the whole blog, its very enlightening

http://theblacksteamtrain.blogspot.com.au/

"One thing I’ve come to understand about our society is that often, those who see themselves as the most tolerant, educated and enlightened are usually most racist, close-minded of all. These types were the first to pick up their keyboard or a microphone and declare that speaking negatively about the so-called ‘war dance’ effort from Adam Goodes over the weekend means that we are culturally ignorant, yet in making such a claim, have themselves ignored an entire segment of the Aboriginal community, who are appalled at the ‘performance’. In wanting us to be a homogenous community capable of only thinking and feeling one way, therefore enabling them to have the correct information and be ‘right’, they are guilty of the same crime they are continually accusing an entire nation of – RACISM.

The fact is, some Aboriginal people, myself included, saw that embarrassing display and did not feel pride. Instead, we felt shame, and a sense of sadness and loss. Some of this stems from seeing yet more of our traditions mocked and traded upon, invented and earning overnight acclaim, for little more than cheap thrills while the long standing traditions are ignored, left to die quietly and uncelebrated until they are forgotten and lost forever. Some of this comes from the fact we're tired of the theatrics, and how his need for attention will play out for the rest of us, and creep a little into our own lives. For an urban blackfella like me, I hate the fact that all of a sudden my opinion is relevant. I haven’t written a blog post in almost a year, or bothered to watch free to air television in even longer, yet received two messages on my phone today – one from SBS and the other from 2GB, wanting to know what I think about the whole Goodes drama and depending on what I think, whether they want to hear from me. They aren’t the only ones. Friends, acquaintances and even the random guy standing next to me in line at the supermarket suddenly wants to hear what I have to say, but only on this one topic, just for now. The easiest way to get rid of them is to gauge their personal feelings, then just agree with them. If someone is genuinely looking for a discussion, they are easy to tell, but most people just want me to be the token black who validates their own feelings on the matter."

Ps, I'm not a booer!

None so blind as those who refuse to see.

Goodes's War Dance did nothing to address ' poverty, disadvantage, loss of culture and the breakdown of society'. Thanks for proving my point.
Anytime someone tries to address Indigenous grievance some clown comes out with the same line. Believe it it or not people did the exact same thing when Goodes got his AOTY.

"Well it's great that Adam Goodes has been made AOTY for calling out racism but it doesn't do anything to address..."

Working at a school were 100% of the kids are indigenous..

Its been a big story up here just like everyone else around the country. Pretty obvious that a fair potion on here seem to forget that Indigenous people read and use social media.

We read a few newspaper articles, roar articles and this thread. The kids had some pretty profound reflections.

Australia has a LONG LONG LONG way to go.

We may not be a racist country(though you could make a pretty good argument for it) but we are without doubt terribly ignorant.
