Evidence shows that customers are the ones being robbed each time they pay $1.70 a litre, fork out $5.50 for a meat pie, or even one of those New York Yankees hats that every OTR has, but nobody seems to buy.

I'd like to know why Colonel Light thought it was a good idea to establish a colony east of the Nullabor, south of the interior and trapped by hills. What was wrong with Port Lincoln or Mount Gambier as the main centre?

Fair question.
Who wants to establish a city with that water they drink ?
Surely Mount Gambier would be way more nice?

when they landed in Port Lincoln, it was too windy and there was a big swell, so they found it unsuitable and may be dangerous to ships not expecting the weather

I always heard Port Adelaide was meant to be the main city.

That channel down port road was meant to be a shipping channel or something.

On SM-G925I using BigFooty.com mobile app

Port Adelaide area was prone to flooding back in the day and had limited fresh water, dont know if it was suitable for a new colony

have heard the same thing about port road shipping channel

found this

I did know that. More referring to the climate, a few dead sailors in the 1830s or relief from the heat? Short-term pain for long-term gain I say.

The lack of fresh water was a big concern aswell

They started building the capatil at lyndoch. Lyndoch was lights commanding officer at a battle in Spain at barrossa, against napoleon's forces.

Problem was light was told by the indigenous that it was an area prone to flooding and not build there. But he did and it wasn't long before a flood chased them away. So they settled on where the cbd is now. They couldn't maintain a city at the port because it of all the copper wheat wool ect being shipped out to England for the war effort. The shops would come in full of poor people wanting a chance, who paid. Then leave with millions of stolen recources. They needed to disperse the colonists as no room for everything at the port.

The first attempt at settling port Lincoln failed as the indigenous fought back and pushed them into the sea. The next effort they spread yellow fever amongst the indigenous, so they couldn't fight. This is a common story across Australia and first started in Jan 1789 when Phillip was told to leave.

Port Road use to be a bulluck track, hence so wide. The trade had to get to where it was needed from the port and the goodies stolen from the indigenous needed to get to the ships. It would take a day to get to the cbd, if you were an immigrant and hired a bulluck.

Adelaide is surely the 'bizarre' capital of Australia. The Somerton Man, the Beaumont children, the Family, the 'tidal wave psychic', the bodies in the barrell, the one-way reversible expressway, the state-wide blackout and the day where we had both catastrophic bushfires and hail in the metropolitan area.
