I'd move from adel to melb in a flash.....if I could get the same sized house on the same sized block for the same price that was 15 mins from work which pays me the same as i get paid now.

Better shopping
Better food
Better car rules (modified)
Just generally better all round imo

You mean like that antiquated long right hand turn rule?

???
You mean the hook turns that are only in the city???

No
I'm talking modified cars.
You can't do jack shit in sa compared to the other states
What's the point, you're barely allowed to drive at more than 50?

It might have looked a bit ugly and American-style if we'd built MATS, but I think we would have been better off. Imagine something like the South Road Superway - free-flowing at 90 km/h - connecting all major parts of Adelaide:

400px-MATS_recommendations_small2.jpg

I overlaid this picture on Google Earth, to scale, and estimated some travel times using the 'path' tool and some basic maths. I assumed a speed limit of 90 kmh because it was supposed to take 30 minutes to get from from Salisbury to Noarlunga. Oh what might have been!

From Modbury to Marion
with MATS - 29 minutes
without MATS today - 48 minutes (according to Android Google Maps with Saturday lunchtime traffic)

From Plympton to Pooraka
with MATS - 20 minutes
without MATS today - 40 minutes

From Mitcham to Seaton
with MATS - 14 minutes!
without MATS today - 36 minutes

From Paradise to Glenelg
with MATS - 20 minutes
without MATS today - 46 minutes

One might say 'but who drives regularly between Mitcham and Seaton?' But having a proper highway network would open up so many job and leisure opportunities for Adelaideians. You wouldn't have to look for a job only on your side of town - you could take that job you really want on the other side of town, knowing that you won't have to spend an hour on a shitty 60kmh stop-start road to get there. If you live in Paradise, you could go to Glenelg for fun whenever you like - there's a big psychological difference between being 20 minutes away vs 46 minutes away. 'Build it, and they will come'. And yes, at peak hour those travel times would blow out even with MATS, but I'd much rather be travelling at 60 kmh on the busy North-South Freeway rather than crawling like a glacier at 30 kmh on South Road.

Some relatives of mine sold their house because it was within a planned corridor. In the '70s, the land acquisition wouldn't have cost the earth - with today's overinflated house prices, it would cost the earth. If I was King of South Australia, I'd make it happen :D

Southern Expressway is now two ways, and there's a 90-kmh elevated roadway from Regency Park to the Salisbury Highway. A section of South Road is being turned into a non-stop partially-lowered corridor, but only from the Brickworks to Torrens Road. Currently under construction, supposed to be finished next year.

There's also the Darlington project, which will take people non-stop from the Southern Expressway to the South/Shepherds Hill/Ayliffes Rd intersection, and the Northern Connector (which will connect the North-South Motorway to the Northern Expressway). The north-south corridor is slowly taking shape.

Lol. Virtually none of that is true. But it was just about the perfect Souf Australian post. The fact you are a Crers supporter is the cherry on the top.

Only 50 years too late

I like Adelaide's lack of freeways, it sets us apart from other places. I want to see the parklands used for more than private school sport, and cottaging. We have this huge area that we are essentially ignoring. Some cafes, and a few other features would be great.

Is this the area around the city where they have the fringe festival?

Also, it should be noted that Adelaide bats above it's weight when it comes to botanical gardens.
