The AFL and current Equalisation plans

Good teams win everywhere, duds need excuses .... Postcode alone defines how often a team travels: equal it is not.

So...good teams win even if they travel?

Sounds like it's a massive (non) issue then.

GWS was put in Sydney to help grow the TV ratings for AFL in Sydney.

It was. But that doesn't mean it's value in the TV rights is worth nothing in other markets.

Not that GWS rates well on TV anywhere yet. But their ratings will improve as they become more competitive, just like the Suns ratings did in 2013.

In other markets, they're more likely to be a negative, and not just in the short term as it means they're replacing a match that's likely to rate higher.

If the 9th timeslot is Sunday twilight that's the one that came in for them...If they play Friday night on FTA forcing a Vic team to Sunday twilight on FOXTEL, the total viewership in Vic for the weekend is likely to be lower, even with the extra match. (substitute VIC with any non NSW market).

Its about the punter, the fan ... again based on postcode, clearly you are on favoured side - you dont give a continental about equality & wont be loo0king outside your own backyard anytime soon.

As for teams travelling, recovery is an issue - now the Tigers are aspiring to play finals, you'll find if you cant win in Victoria in the last game of the year, its all for nought.

Some teams get to play at home, they dont have to earn it & we all accept it as a given.

Do you really not think home ground advantage matters more than being in the air for a few hours?

Have you got anything backing that up? Any players or coaches saying it's a bigger issue?

Or are you just making crap up again?

You are one walloping on about home ground advantage - I am asking for non Vic clubs to play more games at home so their fans can get to see more games. It will help the $s equalisation fund with a number of loss making games transferred & able to turn a profit.

I understand you want to keep what you've got, equal or not BUT stop misrepresenting what I am saying & clarify why fans of some clubs get are entitled ( is that what you really think), thats entitled to more games than other clubs in the same comp.

& about the home ground advantage, think travelling team.

So now that I've called you to prove your travel issues, it's no longer about travel...

If you don't want your argument misrepresented, then maybe you should actually express it, and stick to it, rather than dodging and shifting whenever inconvenient details come up.

So now you're saying that the way to make a sporting competition fairer is to ignore home ground advantage so long as the fans of your club get to see their club live more often.

Or to put it another way, make the competition less fair in order to make it fairer for the fans.

And you want us to think you're serious about this....really?

Other than in the short term (i.e because they're rubbish), how can you make that call? Like I said in a previous post, the Suns occasional showing on FTA actually rated OK in 2013. There's no reason the Giants wouldn't be the same if they were competitive. Especially with the team they have.

Actually, the new slot for the 9th game was the Saturday twilight slot. But in any case, if GWS play on a Friday night they'll probably have earned it. Non Victorian clubs have to to get a go on Friday night. It's only Victorian clubs that get given Friday night games as some sort of birthright, irrespective of whether they rate on TV.

Kwality: Ill not allow this thread to be derailed by more talk on the travel issue. You've had countless threads and posts elsewhere to expound it. Its not the subject of this current thread.

Its a major part of it isnt it? Equalisation is about being equal across the board.

Off topic, does your above comment also refer to the constant Giant bashing threads on the main board or only threads you disagree with?

Its also been done to death here. By the same person. In every thread on the subject. Its also note one of the current equalisation plans of the AFL, which you will have noticed is the thread title and the contents of the OP.

Different threads in a different part of the forum. My comment here has no bearing on the other.

If you have an issue with the way the Giants are being portrayed in the main forum, report the posts that offend you. if you dont feel anything is being done pm a main board mod or admin.

I raised the issue, one poster strongly disagreed, I was told the issue was over not the other poster - happened once before, same posters, same mod, same result.

Re GWS, there is fear of what the future holds for Melbourne clubs, even mentioned by Eddie on Melbourne radio today..

I can see the day when there will be double headers at ANZ, great promo for our game.

Equalisation is about being equal across the board.

Starting to become a bit like the AFL on here, someone watching every move you make.
Who cares if multiple threads feature similar content?
Big issue around here apparantly.
Big Brother at its best. No wonder the world is heading where its heading.

its my job. I dont want to see every thread derailed by the same people with the same agendas time and time again. Further moderation complaints should be directed to the mod team or an admin.

Are you suggesting that vic clubs should travel more and non vic clubs have more than 11 home games?

To hell with the consequences?

More teams sure beats addressing an uncomfortable reality.

So, you'd have 2 teams...and proportionate numbers elsewhere?

What would that leave us with, about a 6-8 team league?

(nb...madmug...I'm choosing NOT to be pedantic over this interesting reinterpretation of what I said)

I think even Fitzroy play in the amateurs & given the right support could perhaps get into the VFL again.

That's correct. Fitzroy are slowly rising through the ranks again. Now up to Premier B in the VAFA (resuming in D-grade after they were removed from the AFL) and are aiming for the top division. Then perhaps eventually the VFL.

2014 Fitzroy membership is now available. Get on board and help a former AFL club get back to the top of Victorian football.
