That’s right.

When the VFL/AFL decided to bring on board the likes of West Coast and Adelaide into the league, it bought all the current problems and scandals upon themselves.

The AFL should have never bought in a club without a history or soul. The West Coast board cares little about its image and answers to no long life supporters or past players.

Both West Coast and Adelaide supporters have shown no loyalty from the get go, abandoning their previous VFL/AFL clubs or their local clubs. So they care little about the moral recklessness that their players are showing. And the major problem is, it's not just one or two players which many teams experience. For West Coast, it's an epidemic.

The inclusion of Port Adelaide is the way all new team entrances should be handled. Bring in an established club with a history and more importantly a "Soul". Brisbane "bought" a soul a consequence of their merger with Fitzroy. Fremantle is less prone to this "soullessness" as it represents a city.

So AFL instead of complaining about drug issues etc, how about you look into the mirror. You bought in the unwashed, soulless team that is West Coast.

I guess it’s the West Coast and Adelaide Football Club who forced John Elliott and Carlton Football Club to cheat the salary cap and rape the AFL competition of its integrity.

No, everyone cheated. We just didn't stop in time. And paid for it.

How has Adelaide paid for their betting scandal ???

Not sure if you are 100% correct about the AFL being to blame for the problems the Eagles have infected our game with Joe; but you make a good point.

Only established football clubs should have been allowed, or should be allowed to be introduced into the AFL.

The idea of creating a state-franchise, tossed-together-'cos-we-can side has always baffled me...Maybe it is the root of some current problems? :)

The thoughts expressed above by our friend "Aussie Joe" are completely fascist and entirely unaccaptable. When did being "Aussie", supporting the greatest game ever, become an excuse for hatred and bigotry between the states?

I can understand that perhaps youre angry - I do understand - but all your post adds up to is an expression of greed on your behalf -> that is, wanting to keep the worlds greatest game confined only to your personal boundaries.

You are using the week's events as an excuse to promote another, more sinister agenda. Just reading it had me catatonic with anger.

Adelaide, do you have any proof that others are involved.

As apposed to Simon Goodwin the individual who owned up to his involvement.

$40,000 IIRC.

he doesn't make a good point at all infact his argument is completely ridiculous. yes the Vrows are a souless club and maybe the Eagles are as well. but i don't think that has anything to do with the behaviour of their players. As we have seen over the last few years all clubs have problem children like Cousins

Thanks so much for allowing us to prop up your dying competition.
This 'dying competition' thing seems to be a bit of a catch-phrase that people out west like to spout, yet it's completely inaccurate.

Why would the West Coast Eagles and the Brisbane Bears be so desparate to acquire a licence to join a 'dying competition'? Granted, the VFL were keen for non-Victorian involvement (apart from Sydney) to help the competition in general; but to put it simply, the VFL was extremely popular and had outgrown the confines of its heart-land.

To say it was a 'dying comp' is doing a dis-service to the game.

Actually the VFL was in dire straits financially and they needed money from entering clubs to prop them up. It was dying in a fiscal sense, and although it was popular, that was because it had the highest coverage and paid the most money. The VFL was begging for an interstate club to enter the league. We simply answered the call

I understand this, I've already said "the VFL were keen for non-Victorian involvement to help the competition in general", all organisations need to expand and change from time to time otherwise they will die. This is just common sense.

What you fail to understand is that although the VFL needed to become a national competition, the soon-to-be Eagles and Bears needed a competition to join in the first place. It's a co-dependant relationship. When you say "we simply answered the call", you make it sound like the WCE's were already an existing club that could choose which league it wanted to grace with its presence.

Don't worry about the $$$, that'll come when you have everyone pulling in the same direction and bums on seats. The West Australian Football Commission and the VFL simply scrached each others' backs. Everyone wanted a national competition.

The VFL wanted a WA club in the VFL - That club was created from scratch resulting in the Eagles, my original point. Truly the WAFL and SANFL were greatly assisted when the Crows, Eags and etc joined the VFL - they needed that continued support. However, now it seems as if the SANFL especially have balanced that out, ie the high money pulling franshice that is the Crows would not exist without the SANFL and the SANFL would not exist from wihtout the Crows as a money puller. We needed a national competition to keep the game alive. Although it was the main sport in WA and Perth, footy was still not amazingly strong with simply the WAFL, however, with the introduction of the Eagles, the WAFL and footy support in WA rose again. Similar to what happened in the AFL.

WE ALL SCRATCHED EACH OTHERS BACKS!!!! :D
