Everyone loves having a crack at me because I'm passionate and this team doing well means so much to me. Yes I may stress But I never have a go at individuals !!

Surely being a Fremantle supporter has taught you to just relax and take whatever comes?

We've been through a lot worse than this.

Yeah IMO that was all workrate. Contests were consistently 3,4 vs 1, with Hawks out the back and over the top. Obviously without being at the game you can't see where the rest of the Freo players are but I'd suggest behind/in front of the ball and not getting to the contest...

Hey at least we won't have the pressure of going in favourites next week. That's a good thing.

Ross will regroup them and we have to see how many injuries come out of that. Looks like Walters may be gone too. But I doubt we will play that bad two weeks in a row.

Really hope we see some classic freo pressure next week. Because tonight it was non existent

Edit : forgot about Ibbo :(

Ross Lyon game plan relies on pressuring the ball carrier to effect the kick.

It just doesn't work against Hawthorn. Their kicking is too good.

I know we're missing some class players, but our performances at the MCG and against Hawthorn are a worry. We can't contain Hawthorn's spread. Would we have been closer with Fyfe, Barlow, Dawson, 4 players on the interchange? Maybe - but I don't think we can match Hawthorn right now. Which would be a sobering thought if I wasn't onto the third bottle.

In: Dawson, Sylvia, Pearce, Clarke, Morabito(sub)
Out: Suban, Crozier, Hannath, Ibbotson, Sheridan
*Sheridan to stay if Walters is out

Move on. Get as many proven performers in as possible. Remove those who did nothing/Ibbotson :(

It's mostly psychological against the hawks. For some reason, we go to water from the outset against them, which tips us over into an escalation of calamity. Our skills follow our belief out the door and it compounds everything into meh and blah. I don't know what we're paying Brett Kirk for but dude, this is your area to shine.

Conversely they seem to play like millionaires against us, all of their cheeky low percentage tap ons and shots on goal from crazy angles always come off and spuds like Spangher and Puopolo start playing like Gary Ablett. It's definitely the biggest hurdle we need to overcome to win the flag.

It seems every single time we play Hawthorn we work our arses off to kick a goal, miss some gettable ones as well and they immediately run it up the ground for the easiest of goals.

Said precisely the same thing tonight. If that was any other team I'd have been confident we could have at the very least kept it close, but Hawthorn have a serious edge over us, skills wise and mentally.

Kirky needs to take the boys on a trip to Nimbin I reckon.

The team cracked BEFORE the first bounce (IE before a ball had been kicked in our recent Lyon era vs them), they did so in the GF too. I don't know how you can argue this is a mental issue. Perhaps there is no explanation and it's just a quirk of the game, much like Geelong's record over the Hawks is.

Our team seemed numb, like it was under the influence of a nervous system depressant. Slow: mentally and physically. Bad decision making. Like a hangover x 100.

They flogged you in the home and away last year and you still made the GF. Wouldn't worry yet

Yep, and Richmond keeps flogging them. Everyone has a bogey side.

I'm not really sure what you're trying to say?

Surely the team cracking before the first bounce is more indicative of a mental issue rather than anything else.

Well. Hawthorn look awesome. Made us look no good at all. It pains me so much to see Brad Hill running around for Hawthorn when we could have had him over Forster who is now delisted. Was very hard to watch. Barlow and Fyfe would have made FA difference. We need to improve because that was us of old tonight. Heart breakers are Freo. All credit to Hawks. We want to be like that and I'm not sure how far we got to go to get to that level. Can't help feeling jealous

Is it mental or are Hawthorn just a better team than we are? I don't know which is more depressing.

S Hill was massive this game. Just played his guts out running both ways and winning contests. Watching wide angles of him run up and down the length of the mcg was one of the few highlights out of the game.

Used to be maligned for going missing in losses, now when the chips are down he's one of the players who tries his hardest to pull the team over the line.

i dunno we got absolutely r*ped in the middle of the ground. Considering how much uncontested ball they got in the middle the backline was serviceable.

the problem is the hawks gameplan is almost built to counteract ours.

Why? How can you be fearful of something you haven't even met ? Think back to the GF (or even the game before that against them): how could we have been mentally beaten when we haven't played them much before under the Lyon era? Remember this isn't Hawthorn vs Geelong where their recent rivalry goes back to 2007. The first mental wounds that were inflicted date back to the GF, where we cracked BEFORE the bounce. Most of the guys seemed cocky coming over from Perth (all smiles, laughter). Does this indicate we were mentally exhausted thinking about the game?

Yes they did. And conversely, they looked average against Essendon and Brisbane the previous two weeks whereas we looked great against Collingwood (who beat Sydney the next week) and Gold Coast (who beat Richmond).

Don't agree that Fyfe and Barlow would have made no difference. Would have made all the difference IMO.

The problem is honestly, that by the time we start to look any good players retire or move home and we can't keep a team together. We have had Modra and Tarrant and farmer in our team and won squat. Hawthorn have majority Melbourne players that will never leave , we will have a Pav and McPharlin size hole to fill next year, and that's if no one accepts an offer to go HOME
