The Age predicts the Doggies will make the 8? Answer - YES!

Just had a quick look at today's Age's countdown feature about who will make the 8 and so far we haven't been mentioned from what I've seen and have been told by K9-54 and dd17 in another thread (No online article about No. 13). Today Geelong is predicted to be No. 9, so I guess the Age has us somewhere in the 8 - probably No. 8.

This is a surprise based on what many people on this board have been posting about the Doggies' future this year. I read all your posts with great interest since you're my eyes and ears at the footy! Now..... who's got it right - the "experts" or all you amateurs??? ;) :D

(If it's the "experts", I'd better start saving up for a September flight to Melbourne!)

I do not have a doubt in the world that we will make the 8 this year, and have held this position from the start. I think we are geniune premiership contenders. It's about time some of the so called experts put us where we belong.

You must be a day ahead! Todays paper features "Tuesday" the Cat at 9th position. Has the war started yet C1?

No, Chops, we're still 17 hours behind Melbourne until Daylight Savings starts here and you go back to 'real' time!(Then it'll be 15 hours.) I read the Melbourne papers online when I get up which is at about 3am your time the next day(10am the previous day here!) while most of you are getting a good night's sleep! So I guess I get a bit of a jump as to what's in your papers. The Age already has predicted 16 through to 9 so we'll be in the 8 according to them. The Age didn't publish the No.13 team on its online edition so I asked about it and K9-54 and dd17 both said it had been St. Kilda. I'm just rather surprised to think that we'd be favored to make the 8 by journalists considering we're a "cash strapped club" whose "backs are up against the wall"!

The President is going to speak to us tonight at 7pm our time(a little over two hours from now) - he pre-empts Boston Public - just a damn good thing it isn't Survivor! Just got back from seeing 'Chicago' - most overhyped piece of crap ever! - so haven't caught up on the latest news. Got up to about 23C today - our warmest day since October 12 last year. The piled up snow in our driveway finally finished melting today! Bring on the baseball season!:D

I think that if we finish 8th it will a great improvement for us.
It's all very well to say that we should be aiming for the flag however, given the decline we have experienced over the last few years, to finish in the 8 would be a very good foundation to start a new phase at the Kennel.

If Wilson really does have the Dogs down as finishing 3rd then we should expect a few negative articles during the season if we disappoint her.

I look forward to hearing about Caro's philosophy on why the Doggies will improve so much but more importantly I am REALLY looking forward to hearing why Dermie thinks we will finish 15th.

If we finish that low we are in deep you know what.

Correction it is not a surprise that the age is tipping this.

Correct though it would be a surprise if it actually happened.

Wilson think 3rd, Brereton thinks 15th.

I think this goes to show how even the competition is. Basically every side has as good a chance as anybody else. All depends on form, injuries, confidence and in our case development of the younger guys, re Wiggens, Skipper, McMahon etc.

Brisbane, the two Adelaide sides, maybe Essendon at there best, but apart from that its pretty even.

As Collingwood showed every side isn't that far away from a Premiership!!!

I'm getting excited, can't wait for the Geelong game.

Will be a top game as I rate Geelong highly, with plenty of games down there I think they will finish about 6th. Gary Ablett Jr will be the best rover around in a year or two.

THis has probably been done already in another thread but seems like we should put our money where our mouths are for once. Here's my ladder post-GF 2003 (and a few other predictions). Lets see if we can do a better job than Caro.

Crows
Lions
Pies
Hawks
Power
Dogs
Freo
Geelong
Demons
Weagles
Essendon
North
Swans
Blues
Saints (Coach quits at season end)
Rich (Coach sacked during season)

thats off the top of my head anyway....

Sweety i think u'll find no one can take a paper seriously that predicts NM to finish last and the bulldogs 8th.

Extreme events would have to take place for this to occur.

At this stage these predictions are simply not reasonable feasible defensible or comprehensible. Therefore it has no creibility.

The age is a rag.

Credibility? If you want any you could at least supply some reasons supporting the idea that those predictions are so off the mark.

But it is obvious you have been following the bulldogs pretty closely, so i am very happy that you have helpfully pointed out to us the truth about them.

Just out of interest, do you know what colours the doggies wear? Be honest now, don't look it up.

We had our chance in 97 with a different game plan and no real standout opposition. By 98 everyone had us figured out, and were getting on with building stronger teams.

Im convinced that one of the major reasons why wallace quit is because he finally had to confront the fact that his whole gameplan was a flash in the pan, but he couldnt personally admit it. I think if he does end up at another team next year, he wont be trotting out the same game he played here, and when questioned about it, he'll say 'different players are suited to different games' as an excuse.

Anybody notice that the age had the official ladder positions wrong for years 1992 and 1993.

In 92 we also finished 3rd and not 6th or wherever they had us. 93 was wrong also.

The Wallace reputation as a great coach and the results he achieved were never really in sync and I think it got under a lot of peoples guard.
Rohdes first job is to reverse that trend and then build it from there.
