Not only was that game well attended, but to this day it is still fantastic to watch.

For an article released before the club even had a single member... how prophetic
Fremantle has always had an incredibly strong football culture. Freo people are the beer and pie and sandshoe brigade; they’re working class – wharfies and fishermen and market gardeners – and basically, they don’t trust anyone north of the river. It takes time to be accepted as a Fremantle person, even if the yuppies are starting to come through and buy all the warehouses.
Eagles supporters tend to be more the champagne and caviar set.
Nice facts/stats. I substitute them with vibes and feels that Freo supporters are more laid back and generally friendlier than the arrogant, Chardonnay sipping, booooo everything Eagle supportersThat is not how it has panned out though.
- Freo majority suburbs are only in and around Freo and the richest suburbs of Cottelsoe, Mosman Park, Nedlands, etc. Freo has great support in Claremont, Shenton Park, Dalkeith and so on. The suburbs with the lowest % of Freo fans are the poorest suburbs in the SE corridor and around Midland.
The market research (for segmenting advertising audiences) you can buy shows that Freo fans are most likely (in the league, not just VS West Coast) to
- have bought a book in the survey period, and
- work in IT
...And Freo fans are second most likely in the league to hold private health insurance (behind Hawthorn Fans). Holding private health insurance is considered a really, really strong wealth indicator.
Except the result of course. Not only was that game well attended, but to this day it is still fantastic to watch.
