OK guys,
The primary reason I'm posting is I see my team (Hawks) done badly to again.

The age had a piece on the relative finances of Victorian clubs. It gave the Hawks turnover and profit as being the highest and debt the lowest but in it's 'Headline' league table it had them the lowest bar the saints and Bulldogs(who it rated the most in danger)

OK so we almost went belly up back in '96 but doesn't that underline how quickly we've become equal to any club in melbourne, financially. It quotes the Waverley gardens club as being a strong earner but that was planned for long before the merger.

And didn't richmond have only 3000 members in the early nineties ? Haven't Geelong been saved only because one bank wanted rid of the risk ? Don't Carlton have a huge debt ?
And aren't melbourne only surviving due to Gutnick's money? All rated above Hawthorn who is showing signs of being the only one to challenge Essendon's dominance in this area ? (Big crowds plus good management asn sweetheart colonial deal)

I'd rate us the equal of Richmond and Collingwood, and even higher if the AFL7 themselves realised we are one of their stronger brands.

Do you really think the AFL are going to rate you as one of their stronger brands when only 18,000 turn up to the MCG for a crunch match?

Those poor old victimised Hawks, you were ready to sell your club down the river after 3 years without a flag, how piss weak are they in the leafy eastern suburbs.

Says more about the poor pulling power of Port to me - Only 16,000 turned up to our game against them.

Don't worry, we'll be around for a while yet

Stuff the Aged,Pess. That rag will be belly up well before any club goes.
Woof get your facts right. It was the Deedums who voted their club out of existence. We voted to fight and get our club out of the mess we were in. Coming from someone who went through the same thing in the eighites I would have expected better.
To the others, we are here and we are vialble with the 2nd or 3rd best surplus of any Vic club. Worry about your own finances, ours are doing fine.

And wasn't the move to the MCG rather than the 'crock of gold' Colonial a sound financial move. Apparently both Hawks and MCG are very happy with it. Crowds slightly up and $2m extra in corporate earnings
