Yeah, it'd be nice if Redden or Lobbe could play as a tall forward well enough to justify their inclusion regardless of their rucking abilities. However has there been a team in the last 20 years who hasn't had that dream after one of their rucks drifted forward and kicked one or two in a game? The strike rate of ruckmen that play forward well enough to be picked as forwards first and foremost, ruckmen as a clear second fiddle is woeful. Lade type players are very rare.
dont forget that Lobbe was drafted as a forward, as fantastic as Lobbe has been, im still hopeful that Redden will be better. That wold make for a formidable duo. Tippitt is an example of a 200cm plus guy that is a big forward that can also ruck.

On the assistant coaching front, it's rumoured that Port are into Scott West.
I actually strongly do not want.

Bad rumours about his character, the fact he spent a fair bit of time at Melbourne and Werribee haven't been THAT great. I think we can afford to choose better than West.

Also, what role? Our coaches box is full right now.

Have to agree the guy was shafted from Melbourne and has links to this Shane Charter character.

I reckon Stevenson is in trouble to be honest. I can see us getting rid of him.
I wouldn't be surprised to see him head back west. He would have gotten a call up to the eagles this year with all their injuries. Plus he would have been more settled in his wafl team so would be playing better footy

There are many worse than him on our list. He will stay. I like him as well so i'm bias. However I would have him over any of:

D. Stewart (Definite)
Hitchcock (Definite)
Thomas (will 100% be traded, not delisted)
Logan (will probably stick around, good depth)
Salter (Should go)
Blee (Likely to stay, but should go.)
Young (Think he will stay.)
Achee (I think he will definitely go.)

I think we'll keep Stevenson around for at least next year. Remember that we have had a great run with injuries so the extra depth may come in handy.

Last year or the year before he would have been best 22, but we have to many young guys stepping up to the plate at the moment.

...Jack Redden with Voss gone?
This only pisses me off because it reminds me of what people were saying about our club not long ago, while we knew all along our players would commit and see it through. I hope the same goes for Brisbane, although I would love Jack Redden :p

That was the story going around in his draft year, was that he was a mad Crow fan and hated Port.
He was a Hawthorn supporter.
There was an article in the web/papers that he saw their first game against us as their target for their first win. In the end he was right, but it was just the fact that he/they looked down on us.

Also another poster must've said something to that effect.
tbh if I were him, I would have seen us as beatable in 2011 too! And like you said, he wasn't wrong.

The somewhat unexpected drafting and subsequent rise of the Hoon has really put in a spanner in Stevenson's move to Port for more opportunities.

Honestly would not be surprised if he found his way to Melbourne.

If Stevenson can't outgun an 18 year old kid who was only a PSD selection, then he needs to question whether he's cut out for AFL football period. It's not like Colquhoun was selected because he is a first round draft pick who has elite skills. It was purely because Stevenson and Heath ****** up when given their shot.

If he sooks like a baby citing no opportunity somewhere else, then we don't need him. Back yourself in, and ******* make the spot your own next year, Lewis.

The list of tall defenders is out and we should take one of them with our second round pick:

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2013-08-14/combine-tall-defenders-named

Early favorites (Scharenberg will be gone by pick 8):

Fraser Fort
Club: Geelong Falcons/South Barwon
D.O.B.: 4.10.95
Height: 196cm
Weight: 84kg
Tall defender/forward who excels one-on-one and is powerful overhead. Impressed with his ability to win contested ball playing in defence in all five matches for Victoria Country in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships in 2013. Ideal type to play the swingman role at both ends.

Darcy Gardiner
Club: Geelong Falcons/Queenscliff
D.O.B.: 22.9.95
Height: 192cm
Weight: 85kg
Tall defender who is rarely beaten one-on-one. Has the ability to shut down the opposition's most dangerous forward. This close-checking defender has pushed forward on occasions with some success; he keeps things simple, is strong overhead and makes good decisions with his execution by hand or foot. Represented Vic Country at the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships in 2012 and 2013, winning All-Australian honours this year. Member of AIS-AFL Academy.

SA
Cameron Giles
Club: Woodville West Torrens/Blyth Snowtown
D.O.B.: 5.5.95
Height: 195cm
Weight: 93kg
Tall defender who is quick and agile and has a big endurance base. Spots up his kicks well and rebounded effectively during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, which was impressive given this season is his first in defence having previously played as a tall forward and ruckman. Generally makes good decisions with the ball in hand.

Jake Pitt
Club: Glenelg/Lucindale
D.O.B.: 4.4.95
Height: 192cm
Weight: 76kg
Athletic tall defender with good agility and is strong overhead with his ability to take intercept marks in defence. Team oriented player who works hard and has great endurance. Provided good run from defence for South Australia in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships, averaging 13.2 disposals (at 85.3 per cent efficiency) and 4.8 handball receives in five matches in 2013.
