You spit out this line as if no other club has ever received a priority pick .
The clubs which have received assistance this way have recovered well.
Why is it a serious problem from your perspective ?
Since the rules were changed, just one club has received one. It's not a type of assistance to be proud of. I'd be horrified if my club were trying to "achieve" one. Was this part of Silvagni's "reset" plan?

As you suggesting a tank ? Coz its not. Had a horrific run with injuries, and are no longer competitive perhaps, but they arent sending players out to surgery with an eye for next year are they ? Can never plan for injuries. Not saying their ladder position would have changed, but would have been a bit more competitive.

Definitely not. I'm suggesting a review into the positions of those that have led Carlton into this current mess. Mistakes are continuing to be made and the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Very sad state of affairs.
It’s coz we don’t deserve one, yet we’re getting one anyway (reportedly).

I don’t want one because of pride and all that bull crap but I will find great enjoyment reading the hate we’ll cop for it.

I would hope you'd find great enjoyment in a team that's performing, rather than the opinions of opposition supporters.

Weeeell we can’t undo the decisions made by the old regime that led us here. You could argue that Carlton could’ve retained players to keep us competitive and get maybe 4-5 wins. But that’s not the way we’re rebuilding.

I hope for your sake that the rebuild is as successful as you hope it is. I just think your club would benefit from a better list manager, but I'm looking from the outside in. :thumbsu:

I dont sea Brisbane being embarrassed about getting a priority pick. Why would any club for that matter to be honest. I certainly wouldn't give a stuff.
And if you saw carlton's list 3 years ago and the schmucks that they released, you wouldn't blame them for bottoming out.
Alternatively, they could have retained those players to a degree and hovered anywhere between 6th down to 18th but what's the point in that ?
Clearly they are following Melbournes blueprint for sustained success and have now hit rock bottom, but at least they have a core group of players between ages 18-22 who should help them improve on ladder position. Not all seems hopeless

We got Tambling via the priority pick system back in 2004, and even before we found out how ordinary he was as a footballer I was embarrassed by the whole concept. It's a massively humiliating thing in football, to go cap in hand for an extra advantage at draft time. The Blues have always been a very proud club, even through this very tough period. They'll engender far more respect if they resist the temptation to ask for charity.

That’s all we can do as supporters, just hope everything will pan out.

But nothing in footy really pans out the way you’d expect.
I thought GC would be pushing for a flag by now. Shit happens!

Whats the big deal about a priority pick, the blues need about 10 of them. The Swans are able to draft top 10 draft picks with their academy while
being a top 4 team.

Yep, via a system endorsed by the other 17 clubs, whereby the Swans are required to accumulate points by trading out lower picks which can then be exchanged for earlier picks to access these academy kids. The father-son rule has being cleaned up a lot too. Priority picks are just pitiful.

So if the blues get a priority pick, wat number is that in the draft?

That's just the thing, nobody knows. It's all just make-it-up-as-they-go stuff by the AFL if they create one where it doesn't previously exist. You tell me?
Pick 19 if the state of the list isn't up to standard. Pick 2 if as a result for poor governance (The club's in meltdown).

To be honest , I'd be more embarrassed about rattling tins up punt road , than asking for draft assistance.
Holy shit, had to look this up. FMD that's funny. That being said, embarrassing shit happens at every club, like microwaving memberships or losing to a 9th place side in an elimination final.

Oh wait, that's still Richmond...

At first when the priority pick was brought up (which by the way, wasn't at all Carlton's doing), I thought it'd be best to take the hard road.

But a month or two later, my club sits worlds apart from the other 17 teams (the next worst has 3-4 more wins on the board) and is copping 60+ point beltings on a regular basis. As poor as the idea of a priority pick is, I think the club would look more stupid than ever before to not consider the assistance when it's there to be offered. The blues fans are getting restless and the AFL wants so hard to build an even comp.

If the cake sat in front of you, you'd be tempted to eat it.

Yes, the history of AFL clubs is littered with years of shitfulness and this even includes Richmonds "saveourskins" campaign back in the 90's.
Getting advice from these Johnny come latelys on how to create the formula for success is quite laughable given their playing history ( especially since 1980). They are having a good sustained period now but that wheel will eventually run its course . Its cyclicle, that's the AFL system working it's way to ensure that everyone gets a crack at success. Carlton will be ok. If the league are handing out assistance, I say take it and run like a little kid in a candy shop. There will be more of an asterix next to other clubs who win flags, other than those clubs who have received draft assistance

These days the AFL bails clubs out. Richmond supporters saved theirs with passion and loyalty you lot couldn't summon in a million years.

True, nearly 100,000 members strong, cannot deny the passion Richmond supporters have.
Geoff Southby penned an open letter to the Herald Sun at the time about the importance of Richmond's survival to the game. He had no reason to do it after the treatment meted out by Balme. And your club participated in a legends fundraiser which helped keep our heads above water.

You lot think I have it in for Carlton, but I wouldn't post here if I didn't (sort of) respect them. I don't post about Brisbane's or Gold Coast's woes.

Don't spoil it by going back on your word and begging for a PP. If you get things right you won't need it, and if you **** things up it won't help.

Yeah I'm very much in two minds about PP. On one hand it's an indication that the club doesn't have faith in the current list build which is bad look for members. But at the same time, it is an advantage that is available for the taking and we could still use it whilst still having faith in the list.

Not sure it is "there for the taking". The club needs to lodge a formal application and has already stated they wouldn't expect to receive one.

Melbourne supporters (OK, not all of them) were on here grovelling and pleading for a PP not too long ago and it was pathetic. The AFL rightly knocked Melbourne back, and that was after a shoddier recent history than Carlton's. Call me hypercritical but in my eyes Brisbane is tainted through its begging and receipt. Carlton has the support and financial backing to get going again under its own steam.

Keep telling yourself that Ron. It wasn't that long ago that they were giving away tickets to fill up Richmond games at the mcg. Richmond have a powerful base but even you would be the first to admit when things arent going too well , that the supporters will fall away. It's the same with every club.
When Carlton start performing , all this will be a distant memory and the supporters will come out and watch and barrack as hard as ever. Getting kicked whilst we are down we maKe us stronger than ever before. And when it happens, look out .
