Hi all

Just a query - is Fremantle ever again allowed to have the anchor as a predominant symbol on the guernsey ever again? I was thinking that given next year is the 20th year of the Club we could bring back the classic green/purple guernsey worn in the first game vs Richmond at the MCG? I'd like to see something like that to commemorate the past (and many years of pain) that has brought us to where we are now.

Are we allowed to do that given we have the name 'Dockers' back? I recall reading somewhere during the re-brand that as an agreement for the official licensing of the nickname we'd have to give up the anchor as the predominant symbol? (Even if it is mangled with a D for the logo) which I really like anyway.

I do love out guernsey now but I think it's a mistake to have an entire year without it for at least a special game. I always think the Purple Haze game is the perfect chance to have a purple guernsey with a white anchor - which could make that event even more special by it being the 'anchor' game.

Does anyone have any insight? I'd like to think there'd be a special guernsey for next year with the anchor for the 20th year occasion when we play Richmond...

I'd like to see one game in the green jumper plus for us to come out of the cargo carrier instead of a run through banner and lastly for the rock and anchor crew to do their thing. I would love to see some of the looks on the faces of the young kids at a bloke lifting up an anchor and crowd cheering.

Whilst we have had a poor 20 years I think we still need to acknowledge the past players, coaches and administrators for giving us some good laughs over the years.

But the future 20 years is hopefully enough to make up for the first two decades of little reward. A couple of flags and I'll die a happy man.

If I die without ever seeing a Freo flag it will be a dismal life.

I agree would like to see the original strip for the game and maybe a line up of the original team cheering the new 22 onto the field. :)

Good idea actually.

I'd like to see us wear the green one against Richmond to commemorate our first ever game, then wear our old home jumper against Geelong to commemorate our first ever home win.

I always liked the cargo carrier idea and was disappointed that it was dispensed with.
The banner folk do a FANtastic job, but I liked our unique idea.

I think this is a wonderful concept and something that needs to be looked at.

That said, I still proudly wear the jumper from last decade (anchor the main symbol) so every week really is a commeration of the past for me (no I don't have the early jumpers sadly).

Did we seriously have a cargo carrier in the early years? Jesus christ. I thought the rock-anchor and overalls were shameful enough.
Yeah embarrassing.

The (stupid) idea was that instead of running through a banner like the other clubs, we would run through the inflatable shipping container.

Really? Sounds dumb to me, but either way I don't remember it, and I've been going to games from the early days. Though I only went to 1 or 2 a year in the early days. When did they get rid of it?

I remember the rock and the anchor and I always liked that for some reason. Seemed to get us all going.

I did that every now and again so I take offence at that. It was great.
You should take offence. I only cringe a little bit when Richmond have the tiger raw, or Essendon the air rad siren – I've become immune to embarrassing football 'rev ups' because of that shit. I think I'd be genuinely embarrassed to take someone to a Fremantle game, tell them I'm a big fan, and then have that thing roll out.

Never gonna replace my anchor. I like the idea of wearing the same jumper to every game you go to.

Every now and then posters here forget that you are a complete douche. Thanks for the constant reminders.

Weren't you the bloke that said he wouldn't go to a game because it would be too cold and had a whinge about having to brave the sun on the south side of Subiaco for one game?

People are sticking up for that anchor ceremony? Really? That was shameful. And I don't see how calling that out for what it is is douchey. It's the truth.

Good old nostalgia. To see the ceremony once again would be pretty rad - it was the 90s and the Club did what it had to do to "be different" - as was the AFL mandate at the time.

So - does anyone know if Freo are banned from using the anchor in a guernsey again??? The more I thought about it I think there was an agreement between the FFC and Levi's (owners of the Dockers brand)...? Can anyone shed any light on this?

I went to every game in the early years. The shipping container was an inflatable tunnel designed to look like.... a shipping container. It was installed at the end of the race. The players ran through it.

Ahh the old days.

You know, back then we sat on crappy wooden bench seating at Subi! Can you believe it?

Actually, I think I do remember it now. I don't think I picked it as a shipping container though at the time, I just thought it was some ... fancy tunnel thing. I remember the rock/anchor thing for a few years, right up until early 00's?? Did we have the tunnel for that long too? .... or is my memory so bad I've got that all wrong all over the place o_O:oops:

There are periods and events in our history that my mind tries to block out for sanity's sake and this could be one of them. :)
