You've got me again, Can't touch what ? was that a LP.?
If you haven't wrapped your listening gear around some MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice Fred then you are doing yourself a disservice, get into it.

I've got Ice, Ice Baby somewhere on my iTunes. The true classics never die. ;)

Best karaoke performance I've ever heard was when I was hitch-hiking through NZ and this Pommie dude walks into the bar and spat out the whole song from memory while the big Maori bartender beat-boxed the beat for him. Smooth little playa had chicks coming up to him for the rest of the night after that.
That is pretty awesome, I'm feeling a little weak at the knees myself just from the story.
The best I can do I is probably still recite Tag Team's Whoomp There It Is.

I've got the best value 45 vinyl in history; Ruby Tuesday and flipside is Paint it Black.
You've lost me with this other stuff.
I remember well the Rock and Shipping Container days. I had a corporate box and Box Holders could have complimentary drinks in a marquee out in the carpark. I'd get there two hours before the game and get 6 beers into me then get into the ground for a skin full and Feed.
Made for some great rides home on the bus.

Not the best quality and missing the guy climbing the rock. They might have missed timed this run because without some emergency breaking they could have side swiped the team running out...... admittedly at about 0.2km/h

And Vanilla Ice is new school, Stutter Rap now there's some timeless poetry ;)

I'm a big fan of this, I don't miss the bad old days, they were mostly miserable, but they were what made this club what it is today, we weren't gifted instant success like the mob across town, we've been through extended periods of garbage which makes the good times so much better. I love where the club is now and what they're doing, but its important we respect our history.

Ever since I dug my circa 1996 Dockers pillowcase out of the bowels of the castle we haven't lost a game. Question is, it's getting a bit crusty so do I tempt fate and give it a wash this week or just keep on keeping on?

I've actually got a full sized un-used bath towel with this bloke on it. Just about be my favourite bit of Dockers kit.

I swore I wasn't going to use until we win a flag but gee I need a wash so come on boys.

No that era is not what makes the club great.

Current success has come from casting off and burying the crap of the past.

It is hypocritical to revel in current success but also to cling to the crap that nearly sent the club into oblivion.

That's like saying once a person becomes successful they should stop acknowledging all their old friends from back in their poorer days.

Those tough days are what gave this club the character it has now. They're the reason our supporters aren't a bunch of spoilt front-running douches who threaten to stop watching the rest of the season every time we have a couple of losses.

We should be proud of how tough we did it in the early days, proud that we've had to fight from nothing for every little scrap of success we've ever had. That's the difference between us and certain other clubs who were born with silver spoons in their mouths.

This so much :thumbsu: I have a milk crate sitting at my back door, we have it there to remind us of how we were so poor that we could barely afford our rent and had to use milk crates to sit on (like a lot of other people did!).

We have worked hard and made sacrifices and are now in a much more comfortable position. The milk crate reminds us of where we have come from, how hard we worked to get where we are now and how we don't want to go back there!!

Embrace your past, use it to drive your future :)

Normally agree with most things you say but have to disagree here. It is not like most of us jumped on board just because we are winning now. Had we not had the 20k people going to pretty bleak performances in the early days we may not still be around. These times need to be kept in the forefront of our minds, something along the lines of what leeloo has written. The ol' days make the new times all the sweeter.

It seems obvious (not necessarily talking about you) but a few of the posters here where not there in the early days so have no understanding. That's fine though, not their choice.

I am sure if I saw the Anchor being lifted, that terrible green jumper and the "shipping container", I would just shake my head and have a giggle and hundreds of great memories would come flooding back and goose pimples ensue. It is harmless to have it one more time but people just get so selfish nowadays and if it does not suite them then it shouldn't happen.

Like it or not, it happened. We should celebrate it.

What I am saying is that the early jumper, crap selections, loser culture etc were all bad decisions. They were hurdles to our success that had to be overcome. Sure, overcoming them built our culture ... but the mistakes themselves were still barriers to success.

If I was a londoner in 1946 I wohld be saying how great it was that we pulled together to beat the Germans. I wouldnt be sitting around saying how great it was that they attacked us.

I am proud of the way oud club has pulled together and buried that sh1t.

Well made points and I agree with much if it. However I think we have had plenty of very bad decisions that had to be overcome. Our OWN decisions. I am not going to celebrate Neesham or the early recruiting decisions.

Just been on the Geelong board and listening to some of the blokes carrying on about there three premierships is ridiculous. They forget they hadn't won one for 44 years. I just hope our supporters remember what is was like in the early years and can have a little humility if/when the day comes. I just don't think hypocritical is the correct word.

I am glad we are not the same team but on the flip side it was also a lot of fun (rose coloured glasses :rainbow: ) to be a part of.

How about looking at it like this:

If we had made the top 4 4 times before 2011 and made 5-6 6 times before 2011 there is every chance that we would have persisted with Harvey and Melbourne could have got Lyon.
