None taken. I have no problems with people having a different view to me.

But when people don't accept my opinions and decide that I'm anti-Collingwood and say that I don't even like the club, when the club means just as much to me as anyone, I won't back down.

Boys boys boys. Take it easy. 09 isn't even here yet, no need to rip each others fethers out yet. We all love the Pies and hope to see them do well and it's ok to have a negative opinion it just means you don't take things on face value. I totaly understand and can be quite negative at times myself, and at times wonder what goes through peoples heads. Collingwood is made up of all sorts of fans (some feral) and thats why we're the envy of the AFL!

people are carrying on about getting leigh brown as if we have given up something to get him....pick 73 people. thats about as bargain basement as you can get.

and extra big solid experienced body cant hurt, even at VFL level.

You're 100% correct. Pick 73 aint sh*t. And another solid body (at 26) can't hurt. better than a Danny Roach at pick 7 or a Billy Morrison at 17 (does any body remember those wasted picks).

Yes dammit

Yeah I do mean John Anthony. He had played all his footy up until last year as a defender and was only used forward as we had alot of injuries up forward with Rocca, Reid and Rusling all out for alot of the season. Some people on this board want to see him stay up forward - as he played so well there - but I think he will ultimately play CHB for us. He is a natural defender and i'd like to see him go back this year. This may not happen as he is training as forward as far as I know atm. The other option at CHB is Ben Reid who played the last few VFL games there last year and is being used in training as a CHB atm. But he'll probably spend a fair amount of this year in the VFL too. This is another reason why Brown was likely recruited - as a stop gap in defense while Reid, Anthony, NBrown develop into this role, and also as insurance if Presti is injured. However Presti is fit atm so hopefully he'll play all year.

fair enough.... so how long is browns contract? it wouldnt surprise me if collingwood would use brown as like a player development officer type role in the vfl too, kind of like what essendon did with skipworth, so that when he isnt getting games he is being used to steer the kids in the right direction.... i dont know, just a thought, i personally believe that every team needs a player group, of more experienced players, who while they may not all be in the best players and getting games all the time, they offer guidance to the younger guys, on top of the player development officer who is on the coaching staff

Only 1 year.

Getting back on topic, a couple of years ago a certain Paul Medhurst arrived here and the usual suspects whinged and moaned. Today Medders is a beloved star. Brown? Hmmm, maybe, just maybe. What people overlook is the magic of Malthouse, who (sometimes) seems able to transform young men. It's going to be a fascinating experiment, and I can't help but feel that someone has something wonderful hidden up their sleeve.

Medhurst was always talented and had plenty to work with but lacked consistency. He was the leading goal kicker at his club ffs.

It's completely different between him and Brown. I don't see why people keep comparing them.

I was fairly optimistic when we got Clemo, Brodie, Wakes and Medders. I even was hopeful that the Chads could provide something good, so I am not negative for negative's sake.

However, I find it hard to muster optimism with The Anvil (aka. Brown Number 2).

He's a block and he's played some good games and many so-so games. I just think the pace of the game is what's hurt him the most of late. Your typical modern CHBs have a bit of rebound and spring, or at worst has the pace to human blanket an opponent ala Presti.

I have some hope he can be a "look at him now" story, it's just I am scraping the bottom of my optimism reserves!

Both Freo Players;)

not a big fan of SC? what was the problem there?
The only good to come from SC was 5goals against Richmond in his first game, other than that he was a waste of time in a granny year. Played one good year at WC under MM, who i suspect thought would be handy down forward, but was to fat when he crossed from port. Ok bloke but footy had passed him!

"The Anvil" -- great nickname. Don't you just love Dennis Cometti? :thumbsu:

Yeah except I'd rather he was the "Hammer" than the "Anvil"

You forget that Scotty provided us with a big bodied, pack smasher while he was on the field.

He was needed at the time and as has been stated it was "in a Granny year". He had a bit to do with that. Goals are not everything.

Scott Cummings and Jarrod Molloy both did the jobs they were listed for.

I'm keen to see how he goes - I think Collingwood is better equipped to get the best out of a player over North or Freo. Also I expect he was watched and tested by people smart enough to see opportunity. People knocking him now are pissing in the wind.

I like him - as he was 73 - If we wasted 46 or something then I wouldve been angry. But what do you guys expect for 73?

i dont really get it, the club must of identified a weakness either in our depth in the backline or in the backline. It would be good to have someone back there who Fev can't towel up, but im not sure if thats Brown?

Really? I thought National Draftees got a 2-year deal... or is that only for U18's?

I was fairly optimistic when we got Clemo, Brodie, Wakes and Medders. I even was hopeful that the Chads could provide something good, so I am not negative for negative's sake.
Chad Rintoul was a top player, so very spewing about those migraines... Chad Morrison I see your point. :(

To those bagging the recruiting of Brown at 73 - maybe the club knows something about the fitness chances of S Presti, as if he comes down with the same injury he is gawn.

Then, if we rely on a third year key back to play 22 games and not be beaten regularly, then we are stuffed.

ITs a given that he aint no star - but we need to have a back up as we are relying on a 30 something injury prone champion and a 19-20 year old to last the whole year.
