It's a disgrace that Little was candidly open about arranging Hird's return in 2015. Why would you want to bring part of the pestilence back to the club? Would you really want to play for a coach who put your health at risk and didn't have YOU in their best interests? That's how I see it at the moment.
Yeah well he had to do something I suppose. Bomber supporters were calling for his head when he rolled over after his fire and brimstone media performances. A Hird contract extension would have won back the deluded bunch.

The guy is an idiot. His argument is so flawed that it borders on comical.

the bit i found interesting was his opinion in relation to the legal side of it. he knows his stuff and i'd be surprised he would make those strong comments without some basis. i'm not saying his version is right or anything. i just suspect (which shouldn't come as any surprise) that the truth lies somewhere well between what the media have been saying and burnside's comments. hird is a goose and i ignore his comments around him. i haven't heard the radio interview he did though.

"The driving consideration for James right from the start was to do the best he could for the players he loves, the club he loves and the game he loves," Burnside said.
Complete and utter tripe, this bit. James Hird was only in this to save himself. If he wanted to do right by the club, why did he not accept the AFL's original premise a couple of weeks ago that had a fine half of what they have now, and would have still had their draft picks.

Even his press conference was all about himself. When asked why he is taking a writ out on the AFL he responded to the tune of "I want to restore MY reputation, and the charges laid against ME are not what I am about, as a person." He did not once mention Thompson, Corcoran or Reid when asnwering this question, instead turning it into a spiel about himself.

"A couple of cowboys came into the joint, and despite James laying down firm and clear rules about what was to be done, the suggestion is that those people acted in defiance of those rules," Burnside said.
"And James was not aware of that.

So what about Dr. Reid's letter in regards to the supplements program that was addressed to JAMES HIRD? That shows he was either heavily involved in the program, or he was the mastermind behind it all. My guess is a bit of both.

"He made it clear right from the start that anything given to the players had to be legal, had to be given the OK by ASADA and WADA, and had to be approved by the club doctor, and had to be given with the informed consent of the players.
"He reiterated that several times very firmly.

If that is the case, why did Essendon only inquire about AOD9604 to ASADA, and not WADA? If they had of contacted WADA about their supplements, they would have known that many of them were banned. So this is a blatant lie. This also indicts Bruce Reid for incompetence and negligence, by saying that he had to approve everything. Throwing Reid under the bus big time, here.

"It's important to understand that saying you're sorry is an expression of regret," he said.
"It's not saying, 'I did something bad.'

So, for the past 6 months of James Hird pleading his innocence and saying that the club had no case to answer for, why is he regretful and remorseful. You do not show regret and remorse unless you are guilty of something.

Hird and Essendon drew out this long and expensive saga. They could have avoided everything if they were honest from "Day 1". What an embarrassment to themselves and the AFL. Their culture revolves around cheating - Draft Tampering (1991-1996), Breaching the salary Cap (1991-1996). They won the 1993 Premiership during this period.

So Hird was the "Messaih" - more like the "Chemist". Now Dr Reid is distancing himself. That letter to Hird will end up being a very expensive piece of paper.

Sick and tired of Hird being referred to as a hero. He isn't one and those that refer to him as one are kudding themselved. Hird did the wrong thing and can cop his penalty then return to a normal life as a coach of the club. Try being a soldier who has seen mates get killed if you want to see true heroes. Perhaps take a look at people who deal with disabilities who battle everyday to do things that we take for granted, they are heroes. Not a coach who allowed for players under his care to be treated as guinea pigs because he was prepared to do whatever it took to be a champion coach.

At the end of the day it was all about saving face for the ******* cheats.

Well luckily for us that was the entree and main course will be served cooked to perfection.

Personally I think they should be charged with disrepute when they get proven to be drug cheats. That would be a bloody classic, and after all, the current sanctions only relate to poor governance, so **** them.

It was really funny when bomber thompson on footy classified said that he pulled up at traffic lights and steven dank just happened to be in the car next to him. What are the odds of that? He then said dank became emotianal after talking about the players welfare. So after a five second conversation at traffic lights u decide to show remorse?? They just keep spinning out bull. I hope we smash em saturday.

Well said. I know we disagree on much of this, but the obsession with getting them out of finals has compromised everything.

Ignore that, wait till the final ASADA report is ready, and then hit them with everything.

My big fear with this is if this goes to court, the AFL have screwed up some procedural issue, which sees much of their case get tossed, and EFC let off lightly as a result.

Still, hopefully a deal can be done today....
I would like to put some money on that report that everyone talks about, will never be heard of again.
You need to remember one super important point in all the shit that has gone down from day one, the AFL did a deal with ASADA...the end. ;)

One thing that just doesnt add up is this. All we hear from the President Little, is that our "governance" was shit etc etc. Reading the charge sheet, it seems clear that there was a "protocol" put in place, i.e. governance, to follow when they embarked on this program. The issue isnt governance, the issue is that these dudes, flaunted it. Little continues to trundle out the line that, "we have addressed the governance issues". And you know what? From All the media cowboys who are part of the same circus, not one of them has asked the question to Little. What exactly are the "new you beaut governance measures that the club has put in place, that address the old ones"? But the script suggests lets just let that one go through to the keeper. ;)

Cannot stand the essendon supporters carrying on with "what were we found guilty of?" "we've done nothing wrong"
Absolute utter ignorance....this saga has jeopardised the entire season. Every club has been impacted
Selfish of the club the carry on as it has

Demitriou just said that AOD9604 was definitely administered to players, so it's safe to say it's not over yet.
Yep, and herein lies the other unanswered question. Lets say hypothetically ASADA comes out next year and says, x, y, z etc are under infraction notices for having been administered AOD along with Thymosin bet 4. So are we now going to suggest that the "people" in charge of putting that in place, are going to be back in 4 months, or a year and players out for 2? ..but it wont happen, they will string it out for 5 or 6 years and it will fade into the sunset...

Demitriou just said that AOD9604 was definitely administered to players, so it's safe to say it's not over yet.
This is where it can go nuclear. If ASADA goes for the players that signed consent forms then the EFC has no squad next year. They'll have to pull in state league guys. So they might play 1-2 years with a very dodgy team. They lose players to retirement and leaving the club and get poor draft picks. So it coudl be in 2015/16 the EFC has a terrible squad with little young potential.

And that doesn't count law suits. If the players get nailed then they might go for the lawyers. That easily starts to become tens of millions of dollars. So maybe what we are seeing is only the start.

And I just can't see how the players can get off. They signed consent forms for banned drugs (plural) and were injected multiple times. Strict liability says they are gone. So maybe this will continue through the off season. I hate the thought of the players being nailed, and especially the AFL focusing on drugs for ages. But then it becomes a case of can the EFC survive?
