(Part of) MEDIA RELEASE FROM THE AUSTRALIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE

"However, the Essendon Football Club today acknowledged it had established a supplements program that was experimental, inappropriate and inadequately vetted and controlled, and that in relation to the program:

1.the Club failed to ensure it adequately protected the health, welfare and safety of the players; "

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So a man, James Hird, who was the Head Coach of a 'Club that failed to ensure adequate protection of the health, welfare and safety of its players' is forced to take a break....THEN he will be allowed BACK to continue to reproduce his position of failure?

Now, the AFL has a Duty of Care to NEVER let James Hird Coach a body of players again. His judgement is flawed, his ability to protect players under him is non-evident and he fails to understand his lack of care.

In any other working industry a person who fails to protect others under them is not allowed to revisit their previous position and AGAIN expose those under him to threat and harm.

I oppose James Hird ever Coaching again. He is not a fit person to control or manage others.

Mate didn't you hear? He's both "brave" and "heroic". And he took full some responsibility

Nobody outside the Final 8, deserved to be in the Finals.

The Finals should have been between the Top 7, with any preferential treatment to the Team Finishing on Top. (Maybe a Bye as a win)
I haven't fully worked at the machinations (and it isn't happening anyway) but it could be done.

Yep, and herein lies the other unanswered question. Lets say hypothetically ASADA comes out next year and says, x, y, z etc are under infraction notices for having been administered AOD along with Thymosin bet 4. So are we now going to suggest that the "people" in charge of putting that in place, are going to be back in 4 months, or a year and players out for 2? ..but it wont happen, they will string it out for 5 or 6 years and it will fade into the sunset...
If players get banned for doping will the club get hit again for drug cheating?
Club hasn't been charged with drug cheating yet, if ASADA came out and said they took it, further charges can be laid.

It would be the ultimate blast if after a year and the day after Hird marches into WIndy Hill in his shiny armour, ASADA come out and say, hold it right there dude, we have a few infraction notices you need to distribute to the list...tipping it would be even more funnier if that happened around Feb and Vlad and the clowns at AFL house are back dancing in the media again.

I hope it doesn't play out that way. I reckon Asada know their credibility is in the balance on this and that is what gives me confidence that they will act
Lets wait because "all will be revealed" when they finalize their "official report". I mean, lets face it, we got an "interim report", but that means shit, because its "interim", according to most. None of the shit in the "interim report" matters, because of the word 'interim". Funny shit, seeing as before the "interim report", it was called a "report", when all and sundry were saying, wait until the report...and I am not only talking about Hird and co, the AFL were onto it as well.

At the end of the day, its a simple case of the AFL had to keep them in for the year and as was stated by a million and one footyheads at the start, they will bang them out after the H&A, because that way the "crowd stats" arent compromised. If you believe that anything else was front and center in the AFL's plan to handle this, then with all due respect you need to wake up.

The penalties announced were out there from about week 3 back in the days and look now? What did this apparent "heroic" stance, by the Little angry ant and Hird, achieve? What has it achieved after 200+ days, when it could have been all done and dusted 190 days ago. Like there wasnt any judiciary, its not as if there were legal battles back a forth. The AFL said you are charged with shit they knew about before the interim report and here are the penalities we would have given you back when the shit hit the fan.

James Hird "Sorry to our supporters"

Hey Hird, how about being sorry to the players who were injected with not fully documented suspect ingredients?

How about being sorry to the players who might develop Cancer or organ damage in future years due to 'not fully tested for human usage' injections?

You're not fit to steer a row boat in Albert Park Lake. You should never steer a playing group of young people again.

Agree completely with your thoughts on the AFLs intentions and getting a full year out of essendon before wacking them. I believe Asada issued an interim report focusing on governance at the AFLs request to assist with reaching this outcome. I also believe that Asada couldn't care less what the afl do in regards to penalties for poor governance. Asada will continue with their investigation and when they are ready they will claim the scalps they are after. It is of no benefit to Asada to complete their report by the seasons end so I imagine they feel no need to rush to complete their investigation.

I reckon they have copped undeserved bad press for not complying to the timeline the afl and the media in general would like them to have met.

'My Essendon Lie' By James Hird(Sung to the tune of 'American Pie')

A long, long time ago
I can still remember how Shane Charters used to make me smile
And I knew if I had my chance
That I could make my players dance
And maybe they'd be stronger for a while

But 2013 made me shiver
With every paper that was delivered
Barratt on my doorstep
I couldn't take one more step

I can't remember if I cried
When I read about how they proved I lied
But something touched me deep inside
The day my fiction, died

[Chorus]
So bye-bye, to my Essendon Lie
Took my Bombers to the top, and built up our pride
And my good old boys injectin’ another peptide
Singin' "No-one will ever know that we lied
No-one will ever know that we lied"

[Verse 1]
Did you write the book of push & shove
And do you have faith in Demetriou above
If the AFL tells you so?
Now do you believe in 9604,
And how drugs save your football soul
And can you teach me how to inject real slow?

Well, you know that I was in love with Dank
Since I saw him injectin’ out the back
We both beefed up our tans
To show off to all our fans

I was a lonely rookie coachin' buck
With a Brownlow medal and a million bucks
But I knew I was out of luck
The day they found I lied

[Chorus]
I started singin' bye-bye, to my Essendon Lie
Took my Bombers to the top, but then our hamstrings died
And my good old boys injectin’ another peptide
Singin' "Hope they never find out we lied
Hope they never find out we lied"

[Verse 2]
Now for ten games we've been out on our own
With hidden texts on my mobile phone
But that's not how it used to be
When the rumours came that we weren’t clean

When in truth we were as high as James Dean
“But the drugs came from Dank, not me”
And while me, the king, was counting cash
ASADA found my hidden stash

The courtroom was adjourned
Until the ASADA verdict was returned
And while Sam Newman read a book from FARC
The media stakeout in the park
And we injected in the dark
The day our dreams died

[Chorus]
We were singin' bye-bye, to my Essendon Lie
Took my Bombers to the top, but no-one knew why
And my good old boys injectin’ another peptide
Singin' "Do you think that the media has spied?
Do you think that the media has spied?"

[Verse 3]
Helter skelter in a winter swelter
The wheels fell off in another belter
Eighth place now and falling fast
Another player lying on the grass

A hamstring sprung trying a short pass
Another player on the sidelines in a cast
Now the premiership air is sweet perfume
While Meatloaf sings an awful tune

We’d all love the September dance
Oh, but we’ll never get the chance
'Cause if the players try to take the field
Will ASADA refuse to yield?
Will we ever really know what was revealed
The day my dream died?

[Chorus]
We were singin' bye-bye, to my Essendon Lie
Took my Bombers to the top, but then David Evans cried
And my good old boys injectin’ another peptide
Singin' "ASADA’s looking and I’d better go hide
ASADA’s looking and I’d better go hide."

Oh, and there we were all in one place
An entire season lost in space
With no chance left to start again
So come on, Jobe be nimble, Jobe be quick

Watson sat “On the Couch” real quick
('Cause Roosy is the Demon’s only friend)
Oh, and as I watched him on the stage
My hands were clenched in fists of rage
No angel born in Hell
Could break that Roosy spell

And as the ratings climbed high into the night
To light the sacrificial rite
I saw Roosy laughing with delight
That’s when, they knew, I lied

He was singin' bye-bye, to my Essendon Lie
Took my Bombers to the top, but our success was a lie
And my good old boys injectin’ another peptide
Singin' "Now our premiership dreams are fried
Now our premiership dreams are fried "

I asked my girl who hates the Blues
And I asked her for some happy news
But she just smiled and turned away
I went down to the AFL store
Where they all loved me years before

But the man there said that finals, we wouldn't play
And in Bay 13, the Bombers screamed
The Magpies cried and the Hawks all dreamed
But not a word was spoken
The servers all were broken

And the three men I admire most
The Demetriou, The Dank and the Charters Ghost
They caught the last train for the coast
The day they’d found I’d lied

And they were singin' bye-bye, to my Essendon Lie
Took my Bombers to the top, but then our hamstrings died
And my good old boys injectin’ another peptide
Singin' "I can’t believe they found out we lied
About ever having seen a peptide”

[Chorus]
They were singin' bye-bye, to my Essendon Lie
Took my Bombers to the top, but then our hamstrings died
And my good old boys injectin’ another peptide
Singin' "I can’t believe they found out we lied”

man, i dont know if you have forgotten, but the NRL was furious early on because the AFL had done a deal with ASADA to come out of this with minimal impact.. Now I am tipping it wasnt pure BS by the NRL, so yeah, the ASADA investigation continues and will continue until it drops off the radar. ITs all about the public's percerption and its all about the public's apathy too..;)

Asked on Wednesday morning if he conceded he had broken the rules, Hird replied: ‘‘Not at all’’.
‘‘I didn’t break the rules ... those charges have been dropped,’’ he told reporters outside his home.

Hird is a disgrace. Doesn't think he did anything wrong at all. Must think he has just been given 12 months unpaid leave!
