My thoughts as Swan killed the moment...

Agar, century on debut?

Clearly you jinxed it.

Seriously though, great innings by him and Hughes. Those pommy jerks have no sense of theatre do they. Resorting to lame, stack-leg-side-and-bowl-short-all-day tactics. Shit blokes.

Not to mention Swann acting like an arsehat after the catch....

Yeah, seems like quite a tosser (though so do a lot of our players).
That's another thing I like about Agar, he doesn't seem like a knob. Still looked really happy and proud walking off the field, not all sooky about missing the 100.

The main thing is, we've just seen something completely unprecedented in the history of Test cricket before now. An amazing thing to watch, to say the least.

Bet hundreds of thousands of people would've switched off when the 9th wicket fell and missed it all.

Disappointing. If he'd knocked the hundred over he could've really knuckled down and taken aim at Hayden's 380.

Well done by the kid , even if the poms lost the plot for about an hour and a half. Could someone aim a bean-ball at Swanns helmet .Carried on like he had just caught Bradman . From what i have seen so far , our bowlers are young and promising , our batting is shit and we will be lucky to win a test . Clarke got a beauty but the others , (apart from hughes ) played like it was a one dayer . Can excuse the tail but our top order is pretty meh .

Bit harsh. The batting isn't the best we've had but we need to stick by young promising players like Watson, Rogers, Cowan and Haddin or else they'll never be any good.

Send 'em back to Casey for a while to develop, and give them another pre-season, they'll get better

can we trade any of them ?

I hear Duminy might be on the outer in South Africa. Wonder if they'd take Watson for him

So Craig thinks the Dees should look to Agar's performance for inspiration this week.

If we score 98 at the Cattery it will be a minor miracle...

And now Agar strikes with the ball!

Bow down to the Axeman :thumbsu:

I feel for Nathan Lyon. Poor guy wouldn't have brought nearly enough reading material for this trip.

did I miss something with the Trott dismissal? looked out to me, no evidence to suggest he hit it either (hot-spot showed nothing?)

Agree with that.

Here's a collection of Agar footage, mainly from that 98...

What are our thoughts after the first test?

I'd make some changes.

Firstly, Cowan is not a no.3 bat - he goes.

Secondly, Haddin is not a test keeper - Wade in, Haddin as a batsman (which I wanted before the series)

Hughes to 3, Smith stays 4, Haddin to 6, Wade to 7.

Thirdly, Starc is not an opening bowler despite his ability to swing - Harris or Bird in.

Starc has a long term future, but at the moment any opening bat would love facing him (bar the one or two rippers he send down every 10 overs) - doesn't force you to play at the ball early.

I saw almost none of the match so I can't comment too much, but I would not change anything yet.

Give Cowan another crack at least, he deserves it and throwing Hughes back to #3 would be a terrible idea. The other option would be bringing Khawaja in at 3, could work but tough gig for a young bloke.

Haddin stays, he's a better keeper than Wade and a more reliable bat (which isn't saying much),

Leave the bowling alone for now, Starc has never played consecutive Tests before so give him the chance to build up some confidence and rhythm without having to worry about that damn rotation policy. I wouldn't have picked Agar for the first test but now that he's there he deserves a few games. Why they threw Lyon out in such terrible fashion is beyond me. The bloke can bowl.

Wouldn't change too much, you've got to back the side after a better than expected performance.

Personally I'd bin Cowan but I can understand giving him another shot. Khawaja is hardly young at 26 but I've never been convinced by him. Switching him and Cowan would be like for like in terms of attitude and ability. Warner should miss the next game as well while he's attempting to scrape together something resembling form and humility.

No big wraps on Haddin but Wade isn't (much? at all?) better. He's a hack of a batsman too. Pity about Paine's Humptdy Dumpty act - he should have had about 5 years behind the pegs now.

Is it too late to fly Brad Hodge over?

I'm guessing they'll role into the next test unchanged.
