Pendlebury announces he'll step down as captain. The end of an era but hopefully this allows him to prolong his playing career as he's not looking like slowing down.

Darcy Moore would probably be the front runner to replace him until Nick Daicos is ready in a few years time.

That's not that hard at all really. Freo are normally useless travelling (especially at the Cattery), Essendon and Port are shite. The Bulldogs who knows but I lean more to mediocre than good. Collingwood did really well with close wins last year, Sydney I'd definitely give you.

Brisbane and Melbourne twice would've been far more difficult than at least 4 of those clubs, if not 5.
Freo beat us in Geelong this year. Likely win the game in Perth next year.
Port pushed us to within 2 goals in Adelaide. Both Pies games were close

Essendon and Dogs are the easy ones but the other 4 aren't easy at all.

I assumed Taylor Adams was ready made for the role?

A whack from Jay-Z. Does seem behind the times being a club still taking pokies revenue.

Yes but what really annoys me is Jay Z and the like won't take aim at the AFL over gambling sponsorships etc.

If it's good for the goose...and all that.

We should absolutely get out of pokies but the hypocrisy is frustrating.

Adams has been captain in waiting for ages, and if Pendles had stood down before last season it would have been an easy choice.

Now though he's starting to break down fairly often and probably needs to focus on just getting his body right. Pendles spoke about how with a new culture emerging and a younger playing group that it makes sense for a new face to take the club forward and I'm not convinced Adams will be the best long term choice.

When Moore signed on last year there was a lot of talk about him being the future captain and it seems like the club want to move forward with him as the face of things as he is an excellent club ambassador.

Yep to hell with pokies and any club associated with them including my own. If you want to espouse how community minded you are then they’re clearly hypocrites

Should casinos cease to exist too?

Gaming machines have gone through a lot of regulation and controls so I don't think it's as simple as saying if you profit from pokies you're bad.

Are casinos community sporting clubs? Think there’s a bit of difference there. Most AFL clubs not from west of Melbourne never gave a s**t about the west until they were allowed to build pokie venues there. Vultures

I have started a Seinfeld re-watch. I have been watching clips on YiuTube over the last few weeks but it’s been over 10+ years since I actually watched any of it. Just brilliant.
I was watching it on Stan then they moved it to Netflix. Netflix changed the aspect ratio and made Seinfeld unwatchable for me due to the graininess so I am stuck half way through the series. :(

I did notice that when I had NetFlix. One day it seemed to be crystal clear and the next day it was just shocking. I have the show downloaded so I am watching it on my computer, no picture issues with that.

Not quite sure on what you're saying. Are you saying pokies are inherently an issue? Or clubs using them to make money?

Yes pokies are completely s**t overall. So would be great if shithole casinos didn’t have them. Football clubs shouldn’t have them full stop ie whether casinos have them or not.

I'll happily admit, I think the hypocrisy of everything has worn me down with all this.

So pokies are bad because they feed people's addiction.

Alcohol is readily available and does the same thing (feeding addictions). Yet doesn't really cop the same outcry.

I just don't see it as a big deal with having pokies in this instance if you're going to allow similar things - gambling sponsorships, alcohol sponsorships etc.

If they want to put a ban on it all, I'm in absolute agreement. Fantastic, implement it. But until they do, I don't really have a big problem with us having pokies.

Yeah hard to get too outraged at pokies when gambling advertising revenue is rife through the league.

So because the league lacks fortitude on this so should the clubs? North and the Eagles have said no all the way. Piss weak by other clubs

North and Eagles get no money from betting companies either? How about alcohol companies?

Or should we only be outraged in specific examples of exploitation of vices which are more highly regulated than those other examples?

A quick look and North have Jimmy Brings and a few other alcohol companies, West Coast have TAB, Crown, Jim Beam.. but very noble of them both to put their foot down at pokies.

Well we’re not going back to prohibition. Pokies losses topped other forms of gambling pre covid at around $ 2.6b a year in Victoria alone. It also affects poorer areas and studies have shown gamblers wouldn’t necessarily shift to other forms of pokies was banned.

Guess I just find it a bit hypocritical taking one form of gambling money but pretending to be against it by rejecting another.
