Poor kid is 18 and freaks out a few days before the biggest night of his life. Selfishly I want clubs to get scared off, but gee I think it's very rough for the AFL industry to shunt a kid like that
I don't. There's a difference between getting freaked out and driving intoxicated and then refusing a breath test.

He deserves everything he cops tbh. He'll still be taken by a club and likely have a decent career but this shouldn't be glossed over just because he's a couple of days out from the draft.

Not saying he should get away with drink driving, and we don't know the exact circumstances (may have been driving the morning after a few and would have still not been 0.00) but the refusal was just a moment of an 18 yr old panicking before the biggest day of his life to date. In terms of stupid decisions 18 year olds around the country have made this week it's nowhere near the top of the pile

Yes we do. He was placed under arrest and spent the night at the cop shop.

He was placed under arrest for refusing to give a breath test.

Nobody has said if he was blind drunk or if he was only going to be just over the 0.00, his refusal to give the test is what caused him to get locked up

Sure. But if you're 0.0 you don't turn down a breath test, do you?

Either way, he's old enough to know it was a shit choice.

You never drove the morning after drinking on Ps and not being sure if you're back to 0.0? I'd say quite a lot of people writing the kid off have made stupider decisions in their past

I didn't personally but I've never been much of a drinker. When I did, I generally didn't wake up until after 12 :p

His problem wasn't driving the morning after. His was driving the night of.

You're probably right. But how many of those people were 4 days from appearing in the draft of the AFL? Either way you look at it, it was a seriously poor judgement call from him.

He got pulled up at 6am didnt he? If he was driving from the night of he would have been blind and well over. Either way I think the not giving the test isn't a big deal he was already over and was just freaking out. Poor judgement call yes, but on the spot an 18 year old thinking about how much trouble he'd be in for drink driving I can kind of understand the panic and poor decision making

Draft tomorrow. Thoughts if we land the following Jatz

1: Weitering
8: McKay
11: Curnow/Oliver
19: Mathieson
Do not want Oliver at all. Even skeptical on Curnow now. Having his big brother here should help though.

Very much yes to the others.

Why the uncertainty on Oliver? Think he isn't as good as made out because he didn't make it into the carnival squads?

Curnow I'm extremely confident is a 1 off issue knowing what his family is like with their work ethic and attitude. Could be the Bontempelli mid or a KPF

I really want us to get Gresham but we haven't been linked at all. Great results in the skill testing and a natural at getting the pill

I watched him a couple of times and didn't think he's as good as others. I'm not a scout though so there's every chance I'm completely wrong.

We keep getting linked to him and Curnow with that 8 or 11 pick. Not sure we need 2 more inside this draft since we've got Cripps so if we miss on both those and get Mathieson and a classy mid with 8/11 that'll do too

When did you watch him though?

He didn't play the end mid season championships but ended the year quite strongly culminating the Morrish medal iirc.

KM has him as a draft bolter.

Not sure how he could be a draft bolter when he's already rated that highly

He'll likely be a good player, I just don't think he's a priority for us.

Pre-carnival wasn't rated a top 25 pick and is now being talked up as high as pick 3. His back end of the season & testing has the recruiters excited.

Oliver is Ollie Wines 2.0 and is probably better at the same age and can play round one. Parish isn't as good.
I'd go as far as saying he's as good as a lock for rising star.
That's a huge call. Weitering or Schace (how the **** do you spell his name?)?
