I'm glad my Paddy $8 at the line of -8 came off. Thanks Dees for easy 3 in the last round :)
Nice

Only bet I won on was Danger at over 31.5 votes

Spewing my Danger Dusty quinella came short, reminds me of when I had a Jelwood Priddis quinella in 2014, and Mitch ******* Duncan kept stealing votes from Jelwood :(

It's an award that favours excellence. So rather than rewarding those that are consistently good it rewards those that have stellar games.
So based off that I can see why he has less votes than some of those. Also why Merrett got nearly 20 votes. Was constantly Essendon's best and many times in the best couple in the game.

From the games I've seen of the Dogs I have seen Dahlhaus tear games apart. The first 3-4 games this season JJ was BOG. Regardless of the voting system Bont had a better season the McLovin. Period. Hunter had games where he was absolute clear BOG.
I'm not picking on the Dogs, they were just right next to West Coast when I saw the votes for each side.

I agree with that's how the award is voted on. Which is a silly way. It's actually strange that someone can win the award by being the BOG in say 10 games but if he's utterly dire in the other 13, he can still win it.

I've come to hate the award, more so because it just rewards midfielders. It should be called the Brownlow Midfielders award. Nobody playing any other position can win it and never will.

Didn't a key forward almost top your votes?

The key forward who won the Coleman yes, he finished equal second with Priddis and behind Gaff. Two midfielders. He also was real close to winning, just 18 votes behind the midfielder that won it.

#soclose
But he polled the second most votes at your club? As a non midfielder?

Who polled the most votes for Melbourne btw, was it a mid?

His gap to danger is a compliment to your even spread of players. :)

Most awards are midfielders awards. They generally are most responsible for winning games.
Last defender to win Ballon D'or was a decade ago.

Ok, as a Sydney fan if you had to choose one player to miss the GF out of Franklin or Luke Parker, who would you choose?
Probably Parker, because we're lucky to have so many premium mids. Ask chef the same question about their leading vote getter and Tom Boyd?

Edit: and that being said we won in 2012 with Parker and not in 2014 with Franklin, so there's that.

I just hate the idea that the Brownlow is always won by a midfielder. Why is having 35 disposals better than say Franklin kicking 5 goals and having 14 touches. Or a defender like McGovern having 15 disposals, but he wins all his one on ones, has 12 marks including 7 intercept marks or something like that.

Particularly when mids pad their numbers so hugely nowadays.

Would the cats rather miss dangerfield or Hawkins?

Would freo rather miss fyfe or pavlich?

Brisbane rockliff or whoever their beanpole this week is?

Carlton cripps or whoever their beanpole is?

Etc.

Who said it was? Franklin polled very well. If he'd kicked 5 goals every week he'd probably have won.

You say that as if umpires care about padded numbers. They look at players who impact the game the most. I see you ignored my prompt about gawn topping Melbourne's votes.

Riewoldt topped for the saints ahead of Steven as well.

It's much harder to kick 5 goals every week than it is for a midfielder to get 35 touches though. That's my point.

for the record. No player averaged either.
So both aren't easy to attain consistently.

when was the last time a scrub like Fasolo got 35 touches... Cos damn he's managed 5 goals. Somehow.

We can go round in circles but we all agree that the Brownlow is a midfielders award and it needs a revamp to include everyone who plays the game.
You've again failed to acknowledge that Gawn and Riewoldt topped the votes for their respective clubs and with the way the game is currently played, most clubs' most important players are midfielders.

So no it doesn't need revamping.

It would be nice if a tall, in particular a ruckman or key forward won it again, but I think this years count with Gawn, Riewoldt, JJK and Lynch polling well suggests perhaps a tall may snag one again, something that hasn't looked like happening since McKernan and Grant were suspended 19 and 20 years ago.

Ironically for Jod, I could see NN winning it if he had a big year.

Yeah good call

I thought Goldy should've gone close last year, but he seemed to be robbed of a few. This year he wasn't as dominant or damaging yet he still got to double figures so who knows with him as the umpires may notice him more.
