The Australian Greens - What are they Doing?

I like how you gave us the choice of communism or socialism.
Not enough fair and balanced right wing nutjobs in the world so good on ol' whatsisname

You don't consistently get 10% of the primary vote by being nothing but a bunch of tree hugger communists, or whatever stereotype you wish.

However, there is a real problem with properly marketing themselves to the non-Greens voters as a viable alternative government and therefore I think that, barring the odd election where there is massive disaffection with the big major parties, that their vote will remain in the low tens. The catch-22 being that the more they drift to the centre to catch the swinging voter, the more their 'rusted on' base deserts them for other left wing alternatives.

I am not ashamed to admit I vote Greens regularly and it will be interesting to see where they go from here - they might be content to remain at their current popularity levels, lest they compromise what they stand for and go the way of the Australian Democrats.
They won't necessarily drift to the centre, but they might pause and let the rest of the country catch up every now and then.

Bob Brown: Climate Change Killed Aliens!
Calling all Earthlings, this is your Greens Leader.
Could climate change have already killed off aliens from outer space?
That was the big hint of Senator Bob Brown’s speech at the Greens’ 40th anniversary conference in Hobart last week.
"Why aren't the intergalactic phones ringing?” Senator Brown quizzed in the interstellar speech.
“Here is one sobering possibility for our isolation: maybe life has often evolved to intelligence on other planets with biospheres and every time that intelligence, when it became able to alter its environment, did so with catastrophic consequences. Maybe we have had many predecessors in the Cosmos but all have brought about their own downfall.”
“That's why they are not communicating with Earth. They have extincted themselves. They have come and gone. And now it's our turn.”

Janet Albrechtsen was right.

The Right suck at humour.

After the election there will be a Leadership change....Larrisa Waters
The main focus (but not the only focus) will then shift back to exposing ALL of those oposed to the science on Climate Change

This is definitely what should happen - Larissa is articulate and a good communicator. Di Natale is a good guy, but he has been an unimpressive leader. Adam Bandt would also lead well, but his combative, lawyer-like style probably wouldn't play well with a national audience outside of Melbourne.

Would be great if Scott Ludlam could be coaxed back. Very impressive person. (And pretty much the only recent parliamentarian vigorously opposing the surveillance state. Libertarian idiots spend so much time mocking the Greens without even a moment’s analysis, that they never noticed that Ludlam was doing exactly what they stand for, only more effectively.)
