I just downloaded Napster.

Any reason why I can't find the new Limp Bizkit album on there?
My Lordy I remember Napster. Worse I remember thinking hey this is amazing and cool and very now. I’m officially so ancient it’s frightening

You can have your fun, but in its day LimeWire provided some people with a rich and diverse little community

Was not pulling the piss. I still have LimeWire mp3 files that I play to this day ;)

Limewire is where its at. Your computer develops megabit herpes.
Winamp with personalised skins!
Napster, eDonkey, WinMX, Kazaa, Morpheus, BitTorrent, isoHunt, Shareaza. 1998-2003 was a wild ride for illegally obtained music/videos.
Of course, you were looking at 30 minutes to download a song (even with a s**t tonne of peers), and a TV episode would be an overnighter at best.

During the whole expansion discussion the question was asked "why don't you help out one of the struggling teams and re-brand them" or words to that effect and my first response was quite dismissive, I'll be honest. But it sat with me for a few days and lately I've been thinking more and more what that would actually look like. And so I crunched the numbers and there may actually be something in this, potentially, if the Death Valley bid doesn't get past the committee.

So I am here today to present to you my vision for a potential future without expansion:

Hostile Takeover Bid - Las Vegas Bears

This is a 4 stage plan that I think adds value to the league as a whole, which I will show in more detail later, clearly invests in the future and helps all clubs as a result. The reason I chose the Bears is they had the most players currently on their list I would keep.

Stage 1. Players: I have carefully studied the playing list and divided them into 3 groups

a) Retain: tgrs Matera92

b) Consider: First to third year players are encouraged to re-apply for their positions

c) The Rest: Thank you for your time your services are no longer required

Stage 2. Leadership: I propose a co captaincy model with myself U2tigers and the retained players with tasks to be divided equally amongst the group

Stage 3 View attachment 872201 This has to go.

This will be the main focus of the leadership group re-branding the club with something far less s**t than a teddy bear

Stage 4. New playing gear: Once the club is re-branded we can present our new playing gear to the league

As you can see we have heavily invested in the future of the club and also provided opportunities for some of the struggling clubs to clog their lists up with all new posters.
So what you’re saying is there is no way you’ll be with the Demons next season?

Beyond Otto's back - up plan, if some of the more nervy Clubs are concerned about their current viability and that of the Comp in general another action could be considered - reducing Club numbers to 10. This is how it work:

* Three of the Bears, Gumbies, Swampies and Dragons would be abolished with their players open to be recruited by other Clubs.
* The Millky and Haydo bids would be amalgamated to form the 10th team.

One advantage of the rationalisation would be concentration of active posters over fewer Clubs. This would meet the concerns of a number of Skippers about the viability of the Comp, difficulty in signing rookies, sustaining engagement, declining numbers of posters etc.

He can't get out quick enough

Maybe he wants to conserve his body for next season and play next week sitting next to Headless as a impact player

moginie ready to play centre against the Wonders next week

Understandable reaction but not one I cannot agree with. it strikes me as an unnecessary and over the top punitive measure. Besides poor Headless will get worried Otto will get the gig as the specialist interchange player.

Trying to manage his body so he is in tip top shape for S30 so not really over the top and more as a parting gift so he can come out firing with either the Serpents or Vas Vegas

Headless wouldn't be worried because he is Inter#2 and has that locked up for S29, no body has wanted to go for Inter#1 this season therefore Ant Bear will take Inter#1 All-SFA to be in his spotlight which will be well deserved for both

In addition great reward for moginie

I know right, posters who announce they are changing teams, mid season.

Bono i would be more worried if he takes over at Vas Vegas because Harv's would do what is best for the team and not put you at ruck he needs to win games

Im sure you want to win as well been a rough S29 ;)
There will be no ruck circle jerk at The (insert name here)

I know this is a joke thread, but you raise a serious point so it deserves to be answered seriously.

There is currently a split in the SFA on how the SFA is perceived (and this is at all levels, including within Committee)

1) We are bursting at the seams
The posts per match thread are up. Its not uncommon for teams to have multiple posters posting 100+ posts. Media is up, to the point its not uncommon for same week pieces to now be relegated to page two on the forum. And then you have the sim, with good posters forced into weak onfield positions thanks to posting activity being up and good positions being used to groom rookies. The reality is good players are forced into the pockets and the bench - which is a disincentive to SFA participation because it relegates them to roles which will 100% always have a negative onfield performance.

Ultimately this game is about the sim, and there is a strong view that weekly posters should be represented with onfield roles that give them an opportunity to excel in the sim.

2) Numbers are down
If you look at the number of posters in the SFA today versus 5 seasons ago, the number of registered players is slightly down. And with the number of posts up, people have said this is a sign of greater poster participation. This is incorrect. As manangatang showed last week, clubs are getting 2-3 rookies a year, and losing 4-5 posters a year. The gap is made up of returning players, who usually bounce between sporadic activity and complete inactivity.

This is underlined by the posting average data. Only 2 sides (Bombers and Demons) have had 10+ of their players post every week, and the average across the SFA is 7 per club. This means 2/3 of clubs lists have not posted every round. Counter to this, half the league have posters averaging 15+ posts a week. This underlines that people are checking in and checking out, and the bulk of the high numbers is being delivered by a smaller few.

As for the sim, a list has 20 players - not 7. If we want to increase the worth of posters onfield, a better approach is finding ways to better recognise and incentivize people who are taking these roles. creating more sides where we have inactives and quasi inactives in the weaker roles is not a solution.

I do like your theory about Ant Bear. All season AB has begged to go on the pine. No surprise to any of us who know how humble he is.

I know Otto was having a bit of fun but it is also a potential conclusion to views canvassed by some over the past two weeks. My back up to the back up was tongue in cheek and just pushed the logic and concerns of the naysayers a bit further.

Yes I looked at mang's material - more being done by fewer. I also had a look at serial thrillers analysis of match thread watching. Your comments on the sim are interesting. Like many I am not fussed where I play and yep there dilemmas on where actives/inactives play.
