Funny I'd take Marsh out of those 4, only because Marsh has had a few injuries which potentially have derailed his career ( I say potentially as he could still be spud like) whereas Hughes has had more tryouts than Kim Duthie in the Saint's rooms after the game as has Khawaja while North would fail the St Kilda age barrier.

I've been watching some of the shits and giggles BBL and we could do worse than picking ne of the younger players from there.
They're all average players who are not going to move Australian cricket forward. Need someone to step up

T20 is ruining the longer forms of the game, even in senior weekend cricket they play midweek T20 games for season league points on Tuesday nights instead of training.

Without getting political here, there's this constant pushing from largely the NSW press for the return of Hughes, Khawaja etc ( the NSW blokes) for the 25th return for the test team despite getting constantly found out technically when they get the chance - almost a return to the days of NSW players getting an Australian cap when they make the NSW team.

Disregard that white noise emanating from NSW and the talent is there.

There's not much patience being taught in the game at grassroots level and imo scouts look at different qualities in batsmen these days compared to say how we were taught growing up. I was taught in the 90s and early 00s before T20 came in and the game was about patience and playing in the right manner, etc don't play across the line, keep your head still when playing your shots, move your feet to the pitch of the ball, etc the basics. I'm an older Gen Y but too many other Gen Ys and their parents who never warmed to the game don't have general appreciation for the sport and think it's boring so T20 comes in to take the "Boredom" factor out.

We all know NSW runs the hierarchy mate, etc the old saying when you get your 1st NSW cap you get a baggy green in a brown paper bag to go with it.

We have plenty of young cricketers coming through, but T20 is ruining the young stars.. even in shield cricket they want to go at 100% strike rate. but that will come with experience.
There were some knocks on Rogers, i could care less. He puts a price on his wicket and when everyone else around him is getting out, he is more than happy to bat 2 sessions for 20 runs. We need more players like Rogers in our team than Dave Warners, thats for sure.

Don't discount Bailey just yet. On the exposed form ( 5 test matches), if he gets past a scratchy start ( 4 innings under 10 runs) he's gone on to have 4 innings at an average 43 each).

Too early discard him just yet.
Could also say he didn't go on with it in those 4 innings where he got a start. The technical flaws that all the critics said were there have appeared, he doesn't move his feet well.

List of failure there.

Out of that lot I'd prefer

Hughes > North >>>> Khawaja >>>>> Marsh
Agreed, of that lot only Hughes really deserves another crack.

Khawaja was treated harshly imo but he needs to find a way to convert a start into a decent score when he gets his next chance.
Khawaja's knock was laziness (as well as a habit of getting bogged down by dot balls like Carberry and Root were). But yeah, the real telling moment with him was the homework saga, he was the only one of the 4 suspended who wasn't in the team at the time, which when you think about it is pretty inexcusable.

FWIW, both Hughes and Khawaja left NSW a couple of years ago.

Far too much sense in this post for it to be in here. CA are creating a generation of cricket bogans.

Though I think there will always be a place in cricket for players like Langer, Katich, Ed Cowan and Rogers - who defend their wicket like their life depends on it - they are certainly a dying breed.

Breed died - look at the ages and the systems these guys came thru - you will never see players of this ilk again - the systems changed - now it's all about elite talent and trying to retro fit defence. These guys came thru with defence first then attack - very different results.
