That's the thing. You could make a case for about 14 of those as to why they should fit into the 11 and equally make a case for about 5-6 guys as to why they shouldn't be. It's a good problem to have in a way.

S.Marsh for Bailey is what I'd like. Given the history of multiple panels of selectors I get this sick feeling it will end up being Watson to come in.
Agreed, but we can hope, especially with M.Marsh and Maxwell making some runs today.

Looking at that lineup, thank f*** for the English selectors, as long as they keep picking Bopara and Woakes ahead of the likes of Stokes (as well as shunning KP), they'll go nowhere this WC. :D

They love watto{christ knows why}and will pick him in a heartbeat{to bad he doesnt have one}
Gibbs to yarran is back=need to throw some petrol on the fire, back soon
Unlike the test arena though, he's been mowed down badly in ODIs, with Marsh in there, he has to earn it on his batting, which he doesn't do.

Surely they can't keep picking him, this isn't test cricket where you're not sure who the replacement could be or what they could do (and where Watto's bowling is more important).

ODIs themselves aren't boring, it's just that they lack context. The World Cup should hopefully be good, and the compressed Champions Trophy of recent years has been a really well run tournament. The problem is that no one cares who wins the tri-series, or the 5 match series we played against the Saffas, etc. The rankings are difficult to understand and don't mean much overall, therefore outside the main tournaments, the matches don't mean much.

ODI cricket needs an overhaul, tests cricket is the only format that is mostly well administered, even T20I is better administered than ODIs.
Yep. Well said.

Watto has consistently been one of the best limited overs cricketers in the world for years.
No idea why he isn't opening.
After a good knock in Perth before the tests, he hasn't got over 35 in his last 6-7 innings.
You know what I reckon.
Pick our best test side for ODI's . The batting strike rate during the tests was fantastic, they're better cricketers
Nah. It's a different game.
Rogers wouldn't get a game for anyone in the domestic one day comp.

Faulkner!!! :cry::cry::cry:

And on the W/C side of things, I didn't think Smarsh was in the named side? We will get an injury replacement if Faulkner's out  but given how deep Aus bat I'd rather replace him with a Coulter-Nile, or even bring Harris in if he's up for it. Cummins is terrible so we'll need an extra bowler. And Henriques should just retire.

I'd get Coulter-Nile in for Faulkner, easy.
Not really, Coulter-Nile is a lesser batsman and a less bowler.

Would hold fire on replacing Faulkner, team balance wise he's more important than Clarke.

Pfft. Get Patto in. Bowling shitquick outswingers and smacked 60 for Dandy yesterday.
Patto_man is being saved for the Windies test series.

We don't need another strike bowler anyway, we need a guy who can bowl towards the death and play as a batsman at #8.

I'm assuming this would be the team if Faulkner can't play

Finch
Warner
Watson
Clarke
Smith
Maxwell
Marsh
Haddin
Johnson
Starc
Hazelwood

With Bailey, Cummins and Doherty on the sidelines. If Faulkner isn't fit the replacement isn't going to get a game unless due to injury.

If Faulkner is fit I'm not sure who goes out of that team for him. I get the feeling the inclusion of the captain whether it's Clarke or Bailey is going to stop us fielding our best team. Neither would be in my best 11

I'd expect that lineup too, Marsh, Maxwell, and Watson together do provide that added flexibility. Hiding Haddin at 8 is handy too considering the decline in his batting of late.

Clarke is best XI, but with him it's a fitness concern, does he go the distance.

Who goes out for him if Faulkner is fit though. Hazlewood maybe as I guess you wouldn't need 6 pace bowlers?
Then there is the question of do we play Faulkner if he can only bat?

Watson if the selectors have some balls (or Finch with Watson opening), safe option will be to leave M.Marsh out though.

No.

Given he's a right-hand batsman and he's hurt his right side, I doubt he'd be fit for one and not the other. But on current form, I actually would put him in as just a batsman. We have so many all-rounders or guys that are at least handy with both bat & ball that while it would suck not having his bowling, I don't think a replacement's needed.
