An absolutely must read article, sums up channel 9's broadcasting of the game perfectly:

Interesting, yeah I was listening to SEN a few days before Xmas and some media analyser came in and gave the verdict on the Brisbane test, Warnie got a 9, Chappell an 8, Taylor a 7 or something and all the rest 5s, think Slater got the worst rating.

It really ain't the same without Richie, Tony and Bill.

Chappell is the grumpy old man of the team, and it's fashionable to hate on him for his Mick Malthouse similarities and his tendency to tell 'onion on the belt' stories, but he's by far the best of them when it comes to calling the game, and that article suggests a very clear reasoning why.

You just have to see how much the standard lifted when Bill came back too.

Two things. Firstly I love Chappell's commentary he is very knowledgeable about the game and his commentary is reflective of that. Many hate his stories, possibly because they've already heard them but they don't bother me really.

Secondly when Bill was there the commentary was markedly improved to the point that from day 1 of the first test, or actually even as far back as the SA ODI series I was anticipating having Bill back for Boxing Day, he didn't disappoint.

Oh and I can't remember whether it was after Melbourne or Sydney test but Jon Anderson wrote an article where he rated the commentary performance. Tubby, Chappell and Nicholas iirc were given good reviews with Warne and Hussey being a rung below then lastly there was the chaff with Slater and JB with Brayshaw receiving a lower rating than Slats:eek:. A feat I'd have thought to be impossible myself.

Wow that article's spot on. Brayshaw's commentary sounds like he's never lifted a cricket bat in his life and learned his cricket vocabulary from watching 1 game of IPL. And I'm glad it opened with Clarke. The entire commentary team should learn from how great Clarke was for a first-timer. I actually learned things about cricket from him!

I can no longer tolerate the mundane verbal diarrhea of the Nine broadcast. There's a slight latency, but I just turn off the sound and listen to Grandstand on my Digi wireless:thumbsu:
That's what my Nan used to do, she only ever liked listening to Bill

Just heard a pisser of a cricket story on Shane Warne from cricket journo Crash Craddock.
He was OS with the Aussie team in 2005.
Was chatting with Warney who had just split with Simone and was a bit down.
Was telling Crash how he was sick of fame, that it was a crap blah blah and how he'd go and hang with his old school mates when he got him, no more fame. Crash suggested a night out with some of his mates, no cameras etc.
Warney replied that he couldn't, was having dinner with Elton John

I either tune it out or listen to music these days.

Oh and Happy Cricket World Cup day!
If that's today, then what are the next 45 days? o_O

Excellent article. Jeez that Mcnamara is a campaigner.
He's blocking everyone on Twitter who mentions his name since that article came out. :$

I'm going to tweet him (and I recommaned everyone else does too) as soon as I think of something awesome enough, since I'll only get the one shot at him. Might wait until their coverage actually starts, should provide some inspiration.

Looking at the match on right now, massive contrast between the two teams. NZ look like a good young side who are capable of really doing something great, possibly as soon as in the next 6 weeks. SL on the other hand are near the end of what's been very much a golden era for them, and their youth is more concerning than Geelong's.

Give it time, he's probably busy being blokey with the commentators before play starts.

Channel 9 aren't producing the coverage so he is probably crying in bed at home at not being able to be with actual cricketers.

It also means Healy is stuck in the studio not doing commentary and Brayshaw shouldn't be seen or heard

Oh, wow. Quality timing of the article then, everyone will be paying attention to the improved standard of broadcast. :p
