Les Norton - as an obvious cricket lover, did you catch any of the final day of the SA v india test? i watched the final two sessions after following most of the game through the 'cricbuzz' app. incredible.

du plessis and de villiers were unbelievable. shame that after du plessis got run out with 2 overs left, philander and steyn blocked their way to a draw. ended up 8 runs shy of a 458 run 4th innings chase.

that SA batting line up is something else - kallis, de villiers, du plessis, amla all well above 50 averages, smith a tad over 49. pujara will be a legend of the game by the time he is done, too.

the match was quite a refreshing change from the annihilation the ashes has turned into — which is only going to get worse now.

Yes mate, I am a cricket tragic. Played for years and years as well.
I did watch some of that test, but very little of day 5.
They don't mind the monster 4 innings run chases do they, remember they did it to us in Perth last year. Strange finish.
Great side, I can't believe I'm saying this with 2 tests still to go, but I cant wait for the SA tour.
The players you mention are all fantastic, their side has been so settled for some time now. Just look at our side, only 11 players used in 3 tests to date. Sensational, and such a factor in test cricket. Thank **** for Boof..... Coaching from cricket instinct, not based on what a laptop says.
And India may have their new Sachin.
Some of the greatest test matches I've seen have neded in draws. Strange, but from a purist point of view their great to watch.
I remember Robin Williams doing a comedy routine that included his thoughts on circket that the game goes for 5 days, and sometimes there's no result.
To me, it's clearly the most exciting form of cricket. ODI's are quite boring and predictacble now, T20's are a bit "how's your father", still not sure how I feel about them.

I don't mind Swann, seems to have a bit of character about him (as opposed to Anderson who comes across as a douche), but this is very poor from him. He's perfectly entitled to retire, and to even step aside for Panesar (if he wasn't getting dropped already) on Boxing Day, but you don't f*** off mid-tour without a very good reason, he should have seen it out.

Bowlers are more than handy too, Steyn, Philander and Morkel (they don't have a decent spinner, but not many places do right now). They should be f***ing world beaters, problem is they seem to lack that killer instinct and aggression in their cricket (Kallis' batting style is a perfect example of this), and it's the reason they didn't finish the Indian chase (though also funnily enough, also probably the main reason they were in a position to chase it).

Swanny has a very good reason. At the rate he was going on this tour, his career average would have be over 30 in another two tests (currently 29.9 going at 80 runs a wicket in the Ashes). The soft cock is just looking after himself, not trying to blood more players for his country.

Agreed I think it was a pretty weak move by Swann, if he was feeling tired he should of just said Monty can take his spot for the Boxing Day Test then maybe try out for the Sydney one if he could get himself back in instead he's opted to retire mid series when his whole team is getting smashed and has just abandoned ship really not a good look at all.

Wish these tossers wouldn't give Broad so much shit, he's clearly thriving on it. Sure give him a big boo when he comes out to bat and hang shit on him when he gets out, but when he's bowling, the wanker chants just seem to fire him up.

Hopefully they give Watson a spell for Sydney to recover and try Doolan at 3, we're suss in the top order, and Bailey is struggling at 6.

I think 3-0 went to Clarke's head at the toss. Even he wasn't convinced by his own decision.

Time to end the Bailey experiment. Bring back Hughes before his first-class form gets too rusty because of the Babby Baseball League.

And if Watson can't bowl then he is out of the team. His batting alone does not command a Top 6 spot. Any of Marcus North, Chris Lynn or Callum Ferguson could come in. Preferably Ferguson... FFS if Bailey can get a Test cap surely Ferguson can get one.

Clearly we don't give a shit now the series is won. Warner looked pathetic, never once looked to occupy the crease.
He never f***ing does, all his scores this series have been 2nd innings runs with a big lead. He's still a flat track bully.

Doolan is ahead of all 3, FFS we need an actual #3. North is opening now which is alright, but he's had his chance, the other two haven't shown enough to bat in the top order.
