It's pretty well documented they all grew up together and are connected through the Bearzanos.
Thanks. I knew there must be a reason other than poor writing.
They renewed a Season 5 today. So it's not finished.
Are they just skipping season 4 or was that already greenlit?

Disappointing either way. They're just going to ride this gravy train into the ground.

I just finished it.

I think I’m done with The Bear. The characters are over dramatic. Emotional. Absolute cry babies who don’t resemble real humans. Nobody ever has fun. They’re all emo.

Nothing of note happens now in this show. I feel the need to do something else every 2 minutes whilst watching this show now. Carmy has barely changed since season 1. He’s still as cooked as ever.

The show lost the chaos of season 1 and season 2. The last two seasons were absolutely pointless.

I understand why people still like it but it simply isn’t for me anymore. And that’s okay.

really struggled with the first 3 eps of season 4. I know its supposed to pick up the pace from here on but after a whole season wheel spinning they are asking a lot of the audience to endure another 3 eps of nothing much happening.

Reminds me a bit of how Bojack Horseman went up its arse the longer it went on. Right down to the characters being back to square one with their self sabotaging ways at the start of each new season and there being a bit of a pattern with the type of stand out episodes they have each season (Bojack always had the experimental episode - think the underwater ep, and the emotional gut punch ep, Bear always has the side character detour ep and the foodie montage one).

I loved season 4, they've all grown so much as people as the show has gone on, episode 7 was beautiful, so well acted and scripted. Love this show.
Yeah, a brilliant and beautiful show. I'm just so invested with every one of the characters - even all of the Faks - and wanted every episode to go on and on.

Thankfully renewed for Season 5, but don't want to wish my life away by hurrying it on.

So I'm halfway through season 2. I think it's been boring as bat shit. Does it get better? Do things of significance actually happen?

Season one had tension, some actual stakes. Yeah they were related to serving meat in a roll, but still... tension was there. So far, everything important is happening off screen while we spend a day watching Syd eat her way through Chicago and Marcus learn how to make something that tastes like a minty snickers bar.

The Wire is my favourite drama of all time. The Bear season two makes that look like a fast paced teen drama. <homer simpson boring clip>

Keep going because the rest of season 2 is amazing. If you don’t like it by the end of season 2 I wouldn’t keep going.

It's not for you mate, give it away. Don't torture yourself any further - you don't have to get or like everything.

I too have The Wire in my top 3 or 4 shows of all time, but have also loved and devoured every minute of every season of The Bear.

Both sets of casts and characters just work for me. But I've got mates who for whatever reason don't get The Wire, or Deadwood, and to them as well I suggest they just give it away.

Yeah, there are two episodes that are up there with some of the best episodes of TV in recent years (I'm talking about Fishes and Forks, of course). If you skate on by not caring about the characters and the show after either of those episodes, then definitely don't bother with Seasons 3 and 4!

Feel like there was some criticism of season 4, but I loved it. From the very opening scene, every word carried meaning. It's the kind of show you can not look away from. And the episode with Carmy and Jamie Lee Curtis was phenomenal. She deserves an emmy for every episode she is in.
Agree, phenomenal TV. Not a single scene or word is wasted. Every single character has a charm about them that I'd miss them all if they were written out.

Yeah, she's bloody fantastic every time she shows up. Carmy's discomfort at being with her (and anxiety about having to possibly be with her) mixed with the guilt of not trying harder to be there was extremely relatable, even though I have a really great relationship with my own parents.

While I don't agree with a lot of the criticism of Season 4, I don't think I agree with you on this part. I think there could have been much more judicious edits to cut down the length of epispde that wouldn't have lost anything in the story, but would've had a positive impact on the experience of watching it.

Just to be clear though, that REALLY long scene in the courtyard with Carmy, Syd and Richie is NOT what I'm talking about. That was amazing!

HA, that scene was very good but I felt the shouting went on a little too long by having each character refuse to actually listen to what the other was saying. It was frustrating.

That scene between Carmy and Curtis was so beautiful, you see both sides of the equation, she's just a human that had her own problems and couldn't be what they needed, but that still has consequences for your kids that can be hard to forgive.

I was in no rush to get anywhere else

Got 3 eps to go in the new season.

The wedding episode was absolutely incredible TV viewing. I don't know 1 hour 10 has felt like it went by as fast as that one. The guest stars were fantastic, the relationships just so engaging and enjoyable to watch. One of my fav eps of TV in recent times.

As for the other eps, they've been easy watching but really easily forgettable as well. It does feel to me like it meanders on a bit now, they've well and truly gone from focus on the restaurant to the relationships.
