Some of you would know about a radio show Mace and myself host on Monday night's on SYN FM called Discography, which looks at top artists' careers in full.

Over the next two Monday nights we will be featuring the career of arguably the most influential artist ever - The Beatles.

But we want your help. If you are or know someone who is an absolute Beatles freak or, even better, saw The Beatles on their 1964 tour of Australia or anywhere else in the world, we want to know.

We'd also appreciate finding out what songs people want to hear. Obviously Mace and I know what we want to hear, but this show is for the fans and is about the music, so maybe anyone who is interested could post their top five Beatles songs and we will take it on board when programming the show.

Our show is two hours long, but we couldn't justify featuring such an important and prolific group in one show, so we've dedicated four hours to Britain's greatest export.

This Monday (October 3) we will be looking at The Beatles' career from their humble beginnings as The Quarry Men in 1957 up until 1965 and the release of Rubber Soul.

Then the following Monday (October 10) we'll look at the rest of their career from 1966's Revolver to the end of the road in 1970.

So if you're in Victoria and like The Beatles, listen in to 90.7 SYN FM this Monday from 8-10pm for the first half of our special on The Beatles. If you're interstate or cannot listen in for some reason, but want a copy of the show, let me know and we can organise a copy.

I'd love a copy of your Floyd show Hitman if that's possible. If you could record them and stick up the mp3 somehow then that would be even better, but there is copyright issues in that.

I think it would be a good idea to dedicate a segment to songs that were ahead of its time and songs that were a template for things to come.

First play the Abbey Road side 2 medley!!!

I Want You (She's So Heavy) from Abbey Road - Very Led Zepplin

Tommorrow Never Knows (so futuristic, tape loops they were going to add didgeridoo to this one but ran out of time!)

I Am The Walrus
I Got A Feeling
Don't Let Me Down
Rain (bass and drums)
Come Together (bass and drums)

Polytheme Pam (punk?)

Dear Prudence: Johns fingerpicking style playing, one of Pauls best melodic bass tracks, Georges effortless guitar fills very much copied.

Helter Skelter (early metal)

While My Guitar Gently Weeps (one of the first rock ballads) features Clapton on the solo

Im Only Sleeping (backwards guitar solo)

You Never Give Me Your Money
She Came In Through The Bathroom Window.

Note: I haven't even mentioned any of their 27 #1 hits from the 1 album

Here Comes The Sun and Something (Paul and John watchout for George!)

Norweigan Wood - Sitar debuts in pop music

End with A Day In The Life.

You need 10 hours for this special :thumbsu:

We go in chronological order, so we can't do what you like, materamagic.

We do have rare stuff from before Please Please Me, including Quarry Men, Hamburg and demo recordings.

Ok no worries. but divide it between your two segments: early and late beatles.

Do you have the Decca Sessions? George sung alot on those. Live at the BBC has some great covers done by the Beatles. Anothology one has a bit of the Quarrymen recordings such as "That'll Be The Day" and "In Spite of All The Danger" which Paul is playing live currenly on his US TOUR!!!!

Never heard the Hamburg stuff, that would be excellent. My Bonnie which they recorded with Tony Sheriden the famed record a fan asked Mr Epstein for which encouraged Brian to "check out the boys playing cellar beat music"

It would be interesting if you could end the series with the "2 90's beatles songs" the "Threetles" fun recordings "aint she sweet" "thinking of linking" "raunchy" they even did "Let It Be" but did not put it out, scrapped it, too emotional

AHHHHHH...stuff it, play what you want, it's all good.

As for your request in regards to someone having gone to one of their shows on the Australian tour, I do know someone at work that was at one of the Melbourne shows. What exactly do you want to know?

If we could speak to them on the air.

I don't know anyone or have even met someone who has seen them live, and it's just something I'd like to add to the show.

Check your PMs.

There are interviews where in Adelaide I think it was a little boy climbed into John Lennons window. John thought it was a mightly effort by the boy and gave him a drink. Try and get that kid!!!

Try and get hold off the Australian interviews and there was one man who accompanied them on the tour, I remeber seeing it on TV when last year they had a special celebrating the 40th anniversary of their tour here

Not beatles but related, I remember when Paul McCartney kicked off his world tour of 1993 in Perth. Went to one of his Sydney shows that year which still hold the record for fastest show to sell out.

I just finished programming the show, and I've managed to fit in more than 30 songs from 1958-1965. Very, very tough!

Make sure if you're a fan to listen in or if you know people who love The Beatles to get them to listen in. It'll be a very fun night as we track the early years of the biggest band the world has ever seen.

I'll try and tune in and spread the world to all the Beatles fanatics I know!! I hope there's a broad range of their lesser known stuff from the albums or there might be some negative feedback from a few people!! ;)

Nah seriously it sounds great. I probably could have helped with a couple of fans who would have provided some useful information/insight, but alas it's too late. Sorry I didn't come across this thread sooner!!

It’s pretty hard to go wrong; you’ve got one or two fair songs to pick from...

Strawberry Fields still blows me away. Genius level songwriting and arrangement. The fact that the finished track is a composite of two totally different recordings at different tempos and in different keys just defies all logic. It should sound like total dog ********, it should be the biggest lump of crap in the world. Doing something like that can not possibly sound good. But of course it’s brilliant.

I just tested the webcast and it seems to be working, so if you have Windows Media Player or Winamp, you can tune in from anywhere in the world tonight from 8pm AEST at http://www.syn.org.au to get your Beatles fix!

What a shame Mary Jane had a pain at the party.

'What's the new Mary Jane' - you'll find it on Anthology 3. Freaky, just freaky. Nearly made it onto the White Album, until common sense prevailed. Couldn't really see it sharing an album with Revolution 9. Might be worth a spin though, to showcase the experimental noodlings of Lennon under Yoko's tutelage.

Here's a challenge for you - when I bought John Lennons 'Plastic Ono Band' LP when it first came out, the bells at the start of Mother were in beautiful stereo, alternating between each channel distinctly. Sadly, as the record was a bit buckled, I exchanged it....and the replacement and every copy of it I have come across either have the bells in mono or very minor stereo effect at best [ the remastered cd released a few years ago was a slight improvement.] Any thoughts on that??

I'm not so sure but I can tell you the significance of the bells at the start of Mother which is one of the most overwhelmingly emotive songs and very underrated, great album POB.

At this stage of his life, as you would garner from the record was him expressing his pain in what was a difficult part of his life, the heavy bells that you heard there are replaced years later with gentle chimes at the start of several songs on what turned out to be latest record that clearly indicated that he had emerged from these troubled times and he was now enjoying life as a father and a life he'd never had before. Alot of water had flowed under the bridge.

John said that in one of his last interviews before his tragic death.

Just to be a bit frivolous, why not package a group of songs using the theme of bells? I know that George had a song called 'Ding Dong.' Paul's 'Let 'Em In' would also be appropriate. Any other suggestions??

Wouldn't you be best off contact Glenn A Baker? he wrote the book on the Beatles tour of Australia.

There is also a fan club called across the universe... don't know who the contact is though.

top 5 songs from that early period...

mmmm..

have to include:

1) twist and shout
2) it won't be long
3) i saw her standing there
4) a taste of honey (only joking)
5) there's a place...

dammmnnn... i have only just started on the first two albums.

also like some other guy off the bbc album and soldier of love off the same album.

Just thought I'd give this a boost.

A few things we'll do tonight: we're going to take a poll on the Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane single - which song should we play? We'll also be taking your calls and SMSs on what your favourite Beatles album is - is it Abbey Road, Sgt. Pepper's, Revolver, Rubber Soul or one of the others? We want to know!

Last week was great, but I think this week will be better. Better music, more interesting discussion points and more audience interaction. I hope you can tune in.

Favourite album would have to be Abbey Road. I generally go straight to the second side... so much to enjoy on that side. Love the farewell glance to his mates from Paul.

I also think Beatles for Sale is underated. Not my favourite - that goes to Abbey Road - but Beatles for Sale is right up there.

Got some great originals - eight days a week, no reply, i'll follow sun, every little thing... but also some really impressive covers. Words of Love, Rock N Roll music. Love the inner sleeve too. They always looked so cool... like they were apart from normal society laughing at us all.. but in a friendly way.

Can't split Revolver and Abbey Road for their best.

Most underrated album would be definately Let It Be. Some People trash this album but here are the facts. 3 #1 singles that would be in many peoples top 10 Beatles songs. Let It Be, Get Back and Long and Winding Road. All Paul songs.

Plus this album has some great loose rock/prog/soul songs unlike the meticulous studio wizardry heard on their last few albums, with great guitar work and a raw sound that is not dated such as "Dig A Pony" "Dont Let Me Down" and one of the best rockers on the record "I Got A Feeling"

Considering that Across the Universe was done in 1968 and his bass playing on the Long and Winding Road was so poor, John Lennon was simply not committed to producing great work for the band at these sessions which were recorded early 1969 but released controversially after Abbey Road, their last recorded album. Listening to fly on the wall gives some indication where his mind was at, taking drugs, tired and bothered with the group and occupied with Yoko. It was at this time he announced, in-house that he wanted to leave, (Paul was the one eventually to come out with it hot on the heels of the release of his debut album in 1970)

It was a turbulent process to record, but listening to it, the music sound raw, fresh and inspiring. Dont Let Me Down and I Got A Feeling sound like they could have been released in any decade following the 60's.

Revolver then Abbey Road, Rubber Soul, SPLHCB, Magical Mystery Tour then take your pick. Not much of a fan of Let it be, although the Naked album is much better than the original but none of the songs on that album really call to me like earlier albums.
