Revolver then Abbey Road, Rubber Soul, SPLHCB, Magical Mystery Tour then take your pick. Not much of a fan of Let it be, although the Naked album is much better than the original but none of the songs on that album really call to me like earlier albums.
Let it Be is not a personal favourite.
Recorded before Abbey Road (working title 'Everest')
and produced by Phil baby,
actually released after AR.
Get the impression they were too busy meeting lawyers, wearing bags and curing leprosy, and simply dumped the masters with Spector and said
"fix it", so he (spector) goes totally bunta and mulitracks/overdubs it to the bejesus, to give them an album they universally disowned.
For Abbey Road, back on track, back (with tails between legs) to George Martin. McCartney supposedly said (to Martin)
'they wanted to make and album, the way they used to"

However given the circumstances, Apple failing, lawyers at every meeting, it is amazing they still had the spark to come up with AR.
Astonishing really, but that's what made them what they are.

Some Abbey Road trivia.

They were going to title it "Everest" as mentioned by someone earlier, there was some conjecture about what the cover was going to be, it was decided to take it at the crossing on Abbey Road where there studio was.

Paul strained voice into near ruin for a week just to get his raw and screaming vocal on "Oh Darling"

Her Majesty was initially inserted after one of Johns segments in the side two medley but sneakly added after the end and a moment of silence to become the first hidden track not listed on a record.

Something was Georges first A Side single and it went #1 and became a million seller and on its way to becoming a regular cover song and achieving one of the highest compilments by Frank Sinatra ever paid a person.

Ringo played his one and only drum solo on the end

1 Back in the USSR (White Album)-My favourite song of all time
2 The End (AR)
3 Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band (SPLHCB)
4 I Want You (AR)
5 Come Together (AR)

I also think Beatles for Sale is underated. Not my favourite - that goes to Abbey Road - but Beatles for Sale is right up there.

Got some great originals - eight days a week, no reply, i'll follow sun, every little thing... but also some really impressive covers. Words of Love, Rock N Roll music.
I have to agree completely, it's a wonderful little album!! I'd add 'I Don't Want To Spoil The Party' and 'What You're Doing' to my list of favourites from the album, as well as the ones you mentioned. A couple of their earlier albums are fairly solid but much overlooked, such as With The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night and HELP!, as well as Beatles For Sale.

Can't split Revolver and Abbey Road for their best.

Most underrated album would be definately Let It Be. Some People trash this album but here are the facts. 3 #1 singles that would be in many peoples top 10 Beatles songs. Let It Be, Get Back and Long and Winding Road. All Paul songs.

Plus this album has some great loose rock/prog/soul songs unlike the meticulous studio wizardry heard on their last few albums, with great guitar work and a raw sound that is not dated such as "Dig A Pony" "Dont Let Me Down" and one of the best rockers on the record "I Got A Feeling"

Considering that Across the Universe was done in 1968 and his bass playing on the Long and Winding Road was so poor, John Lennon was simply not committed to producing great work for the band at these sessions which were recorded early 1969 but released controversially after Abbey Road, their last recorded album. Listening to fly on the wall gives some indication where his mind was at, taking drugs, tired and bothered with the group and occupied with Yoko. It was at this time he announced, in-house that he wanted to leave, (Paul was the one eventually to come out with it hot on the heels of the release of his debut album in 1970)

It was a turbulent process to record, but listening to it, the music sound raw, fresh and inspiring. Dont Let Me Down and I Got A Feeling sound like they could have been released in any decade following the 60's.

Matera Magic, gotta agree with you. Let it be is the Beatles album i listen to most regularly these days. I've got a feeling is one of the best songs in the Beatles canon in my opinion. Love Two of Us too.

I find i don't listen to the Beatles much these days - i listen more to Macca's stuff from 1970 to 1980. 6 number 1 albums in the us and 4 number 1 albums in the uk to macca... i doubt many artists from the 70's could match that.

Also like the new Macca album a hell of a lot. Brillant return to form. In fact, I listen to it more than Coldplay's new album.
