From memory the thing that made the 1 pound note stand out was because it was a lot of money for children their age. If it happened on a day when Jim was with them surely he would have bought the food or at least been in the shop with them and then you have to ask why so much, 6 pastries plus cakes and 2 large bottles of Coke for 4 people including a 4yr old. seems like a lot even if you add Nancy to the equation.

What if the kids never went to the beach at all that day? Is that a possibility?

A very small one - it then has to be asked what kids were seen playing?

does it say where she was, precisely, when she saw this
No but I'm going to try dig the whole article up when I get time.

'The woman told [former detective] Kelly that at about 2:45 p.m. on January 26, she had been waiting in her car near her horse stables at the intersection of Boundary and Brighton Roads, Somerton Park, within a few hundred yards of the Beaumont house.' - as per 2015 book The Missing Beaumont Children by Michael Madigan.

Same book, 'Either the Beaumont children were given the one pound note by their abductor or the children were another set of three children altogether.'

False assumption within either/or fallacy.

Are you talking about Ray "Gunner" Kelly who was sponsored by a Sydney news paper to come over at the start of March and give his expertise to the investigation but was asked to leave after one day? Lots of peple getting Australia day and Australia Day holiday mixed up, so do you have a link for that information and if the date is correct as cops did discount it?

Ive just listened to that podcast. when they play the interview with Phipps son, the Inerviewer kinda coaches him. Did you hear any shots?
yes i heard shots....... how many shots did you hear?? Ahh four shots.
And he goes on to say, he saw four bags get taken out of the home. t
I've heard longer versions of the interview it does sound like he was coached into saying that about hearing gunshots at that time. However what he says about seeing them in his backyard then going inside with his father around 12.30 that day is believable.

I thought the podcast was new but it wasn't up to date not even acknowledging Nancy Beaumont's death and had some very lazy research.

Didn't even have the correct day of abduction as they kept mentioning what happened with Jim Beaumont taking them to the beach and leaving for work from there the day before. They also said 26th Jan 1966 was the same as 4th July holiday when it wasn't even a holiday. But worse is when they don't even get the original police description of the man and discuss subjects who aren't close to matching that description.

This was refuted by police 12 months later ie 26 Jan 1967

How strange. There is no mention at all in the press in the year they were missing about the one pond note.

The ch 9 news reporter a year and a day later looks stunned at releasing news of the one pound note that no one had heard about before.

Cops still didn't release what was bought with the money, which was all written down in their typed evidence reports.

There is no confusion about this, the article specifically refers to Melbourne Sun pictorial July 20 1966 quoting Detective Blight where he refers to the one pound note as if it's old news.

Then we need to see the article written in an SA newspaper at the time that mentions the one pound note. The other article posted is from much later and police state that this clue was already released. Where? I would like to see this article from the same year they were abducted.

The original issue being that the information of the one pound note was not known to the public at all for twelve months? The article points to another in July, approx six months after and within the same year they vanished. It must be somewhere.

Maybe in the swamp of information much of the press missed it's significance the first time around and back in January.

There was also some confusion earlier in the thread with a possible issue in the witness at Wenzels not coming forward with information on the one pound note for twelves months. This article provides some clarity I think.

You are correct. The article came from the Canberra Times

Due to the current situation the reference rooms at the State Library are closed

Once they re-open I will make a trip and look for any mention of this in Adelaide papers

When we're iso CV freed up I'll see if I can get all the Melbourne stuff.

Ooh I'm in Canberra now, point me in the right direction and I'll visit. Would I go to Canberra Times or to our state library. Never done this before.

I'm not sure. My 1st port of call would be the reference section of the major Canberra library. You could ring Canberra Times and ask about archive research

Hi all :handwaving: very new to this forum. Have spent my time the last few days and nights reading about the BC case between Facebook, Webslueths and then stumbled across this forum. There's quite a lot of information to take in.

My recent curiousity in the case came about after reading the BC/McIntyre/Monroe link. Very early into reading I was really hopefull that this would be a good, solid lead. It was one I had never heard before and certainly got my attention. Unfortunately I think mentall illness is at play there and ulterior motivations, so I do not believe the McIntyre children to be creditable eyewitnesses in regards to the Beaumont children and their statements dismissed. So it's back to square one for me as that theory seems rather unlikely.

I hope I will see finalised, and they children laid to rest in my lifetime.

Will be following on eagerly.

The descriptions of the man in his early 30’s and of "slim" or "skinny" build can’t be reasonably down played given a cluster of independent witnesses noting similar characteristics. This was further strengthened by a number of Glenelg residents who contacted police in the 48 hours after the disappearance; saying that they had seen a man of similar description “lurking around” the side show allies and sailing club in the days leading up to Jan 29th ‘watching children on the beach.”

Munro and McIntyre don't fit the physical descriptions of the independent witnesses; Munro was too young, McIntyre was not "slim" or "skinny" Additionally, both were alleged to have gone to the beach that day "together;" the key evidence arguably points to s single suspect.

And here it is, mention of of a man "lurking around" the side show alleys.

Apologies for dragging your post up from so long back but it's been bothering me why there'd been no mention of Sideshow Alley as factoring in anywhere that I could find. I'll find a copy of Michael Madigan's book. Opine

If you do , and if you would like a pinpoint shortcut to that specific reference (if you purchase the Kindle e-book) you can find the above reference at the following page locations; loc 456, loc 3225.

The guy in his car at Adelaide Oval must have felt terrible for not deciding to intervene when the girls looked in distress with the man.
Ok, you’re still on bf. I grew up in the 70’s probably half a kilometre from the home where the Beaumont were.
Absolutely nothing was ever said about the incident growing up.
I got more information about the incident in my teens.
We still ran around like kids and played bike chase and stuff.
My Father knew Mr Beaumont and he of course withdrew from everything.
I used to go to the sideshows and game parlours at Glenelg without worry long after.
I’ve also had a good friend growing up in surf life saving club mollested by a SA Supreme Court judge and had no idea.
There is a seedy underbelly in SA that is all encompassing with the church, law and policemen that passed around youth. They are all elderly now but hopefully should still get named and shamed.

Liddy was a metropolitan magistrate, not a Supreme Court judge, quite a difference.
Please elaborate on how the police were involved in this seedy underbelly? That accusation gets thrown around often but no one seems to be able to give further information. Apart of course from the special squad throwing homosexuals in the Torrens but I suspect that’s not the sort of thing you are inferring.

Thanks, it's not available on Kindle now, out of print, no new copies on shelves anywhere and I can't find anything online second hand. Red Tape Rape by Ki Meekins and assume the same Michael Madigan who authored The Missing Beaumont Children 50yrs of Mystery is though, so I might check that out.

I purchased the electronic version on Amazon and read it via Kindle app on IPAD.

This was raised by James Bulger's Mum in the UK but Australia should also have laws forbidding movies, telemovies, and TV dramas and miniseries on the disappearances or murders of young child while their parents and immediate family are still alive.
