Now the pre-season is over how would you set up the pies for 2005. This is if they are fully fit

B: Morrison Waklin Maxwell
HB: Cole Presti Clement
C: Woewoddin Burns Rowe
HF: Buckely Rocca Davis
F: Didak Tarrant Caracella
Foll: Fraser Licuria Johnson

Inter: C. Cloke, Walker, Richards, Holland

Ready to come in at any stage: Obree, Lockyer, Shaw, Lonie

I would have Lonie and Lockyer in the best 22. Lonie was good against Richmond (haven't seen any other games) and Lockyer reportedly played well against Port.

Assuming everyone is fit:

B: Clement - Prestigiacomo - Maxwell
HB: Buckley - Wakelin - Cole
C: Johnson - Woewodin - Lonie
HF: Burns - Rocca - Caracella
F: Didak - Tarrant - Fraser
R: Richards - Holland - Licuria
Inter: C.Cloke - C.Morrison - Lockyer - Rowe

Emerg: J.Cloke - Davis - O'Bree - Walker - Davidson

Not a bad team. Richards rotates onto the bench when Fraser rucks. C.Cloke takes his spot. J.Cloke is really under pressure with Maxwell and Walker looking for more game time, but that's a good pressure to put him under. Didak and Lockyer rotate through the middle. I like Lonie and Johnson on the wings. I prefer Buckley at HB, as he has composure down there and is able to pinpoint the leading Tarrant, Rocca, C.Cloke and Fraser. Cole, Clement and Johnson (when down back) provides some good run.

Pretty good mix on the bench with experience, height, youth and pace.

Of course, this is all in an ideal world.

B: cole, presti, clement
Hb: Morrison, Wakes, Lonie
c: Rowe, Licca, Johnson
Hf: Caracella, Rocca, Bucks

Yes, I left Sloewodin out deliberately.

Why exactly have you left Woey out of the team and why is Fraser on the wing?

My Round 1 Team

B: J.Clement, S.Wakelin, R.Cole
HB: C.Morrison, S.Prestigiacomo, N.Maxwell
C: B.Johnson, N.Buckley, S.Woewodin
HF: S.Burns, C.Tarrant, R.Lonie
F: B.Caracella, A.Rocca, L.Davis
Foll: J.Fraser, P.Licuria, B.Holland
Inter: T.Walker, T.Lockyer, S.O'Bree, J.Rowe
Emerg: J.Cloke, C.Cloke, R.Shaw

Injured (weeks?): A.Didak (3), G.Richards (4), T.Davidson (8)

With Didak back in I'd probably take out O'Bree. Richards would probably see Tex dropped, but Tex has shown he is better than C Cloke at this stage.

Purely on preseaon form I'd like to see R Shaw play the first five-six rounds in a tagging role on the oppositions best running player. If he doesnt make the grade in that time his career is virtually over. Give him a role and give him 90% gametime, and let him sink or swim. I think he'll swim, but he needs to know the coach trusts him.

Shaw, Holland, Licca..how many taggers do we need though?

Not Holland. Id like him to be freed up to be a more offensive, Paul Williams type goalkicking midfielder. Licca can play tough and close without neccessarily tagging. Depending on matchups (on the Judds Blacks and Balls, not the Riccuitos or Hirds) I'd like to see R Shaw take the main tagging role.

Holland should be freed up cos he can use the footy and kick goals. Shaw's more of a stopping player. He doesnt use the ball well at all. The only way i see him getting a game is as a tagger. Brodie and Licca win the footy and Brodie uses it well.

I'd like to have this a my best 22.

Not in any positions just a list.

Rocca
Tarrant
woewodin
buckley
caracella
l davis
c morisson
clement
johnson
cole
prestigiacomo
didak
richards
wakelin
lonie
lockyer
fraser
licuria
holland
j cloke (only as a 4th defender)
rowe
burns

Thats as close as you'll get to the sides of 02 and 03 that were so even and played such great team footy. I recon if we go for that line up we'll be alright.

depth: Williams, O'Bree, C Cloke, Swan, Maxwell.

From what Ive seen so far this pre season any of them could come in and do better than they did last year.

likely finish:6-10

At the crossroads: R Shaw, M Lokan, S O'Bree, A Williams, T WalkerD King

The only 2 i can think of would be rowe or j cloke. Leon Davis depending on form. I just think you need a guy like Davis in there cos he provides a bit of spark to the side.

That was my first draft - I actually changed it around a bit after I posted it, and Fraser's now in the ruck.

Re Woey, who in the midfield, or backline, does he replace? I want Shaw in there on a wing because I really rate him when he's confident. He's probably fighting with Lonie and Cole for two bench spots, but I prefer the kids for now.

I like the thought of a mobile 6'5+ guy on the wing, but we need Fraser and RIchards rucking. If Cam Cloke was a viable senior option at the moment, I'd start RIchards in the ruck with Fraser on a wing.

Amended team, FWIW
B: C.Morrison Wakelin Presti
HB: Buckley Maxwell Clement
C: R.Shaw Johnson Rowe
HF: Burns Walker Caracella
F: Tarrant Rocca Davis
Foll: Fraser Licuria Holland
I/C: Lonie Cole Richards Didak

Round 1 team and best there is, was and ever will be. Obviously if, when, he returns Richards in for Fanning, Dids for Cole/Shaw. Davo wont be back till very late if at all this year to the seniors. Will need many games to prove fitness at Willy before being risked

B: B.Johnson S.Wakelin J.Clement
HB: J.Cloke S.Presti C.Morrisson
C: S.Woey B.Holland R.Lonie
HF: Caramello A.Rocca J.Fraser
F: C.Cloke C.Tarrant L.Davis
R: Fanning N.Buckley P.Licuria

I: R.Shaw J.Rowe N.Maxwell R.Cole

Who will get booted from the team when Davidson is fit?

Assuming Richards has recovered, Fanning will probably get dropped back to the rookie list. If Fanning's form is outstanding, we'll have to "hope" for injuries to Willy players. Perhaps we can arrange for Andrew Williams to get kneecapped.

If our best team contains C Cloke, J Cloke and R Shaw ahead of Lockyer we are going no where but down

Cole for Shaw

Your kidding me... Richie Cole is one of better backmen and is getting better every game. Shaw is a dud. Tries hard and i love him for it but he just does not cut it.

Richie Cole 5th in the B&F last year, no chance of him missing a game this year unless injured, also the hardest at the footy in our club.

Shaw has the bonus of being a great tagger.

Try posting that line on the main boards and watch what happens.

Good Practice match form does not make a great tagger. Maybe he has a role to play at Collingwood, maybe he doesnt. He's miles away from proving himself as an AFL footballer.

Morrison will disappoint.

He can only play one role - as a loose-checking rebounding flanker. He doesn't like to get his own ball, and doesn't have much of a defensive side to his game. He would be exposed if you played him in a BP.

I think he'd be more likely to play HBF or even a wing. He can kick a goal but drifts in and out of games.

i don't see why rowe seems to be in everyones minds as a starting player and future gun. and personally i'd take j.cloke over walker, tristan's just one of those players who makes me cringe whenever he gets the ball.

You'd know better than us and from what I remember of him at your club, I'd generally agree that he is better as a loose wing or flanker, who pushes forward.

That said, he appeared to be good against your mob in defence (although turned it over poorly on a few occassions). He had a cool head and seemed to fit in well with our mature defenders.

And with all due respect to Woosha as a coach, Mick, as you'd know, is a peculiar beast. He will tolerate turnovers, a limited posession count and generally poor skills, IF you show accountability for the man and go hard at the pill.

Malthouse will tear him a new arse in front of his teammates if he for a second reverts to his WCE loose as a goose style of play, which Worsfold allowed (relatively speaking).

He will be very valuable if he can hold down a defensive post, as more damaging guys like Lonie, Johnno or Cole on a wing. I don't think he'll disappoint because our expectations aren't that high. We just need him to be competent, which I think he will be.
