My big in is Witts. I hope he plays round 1 and plays every game. He would help free up Grundy who I don't think is fit enough to take the number 1 ruck role for the whole season.

Witts sounded like he changed the game today in the ruck. Might be the making of him.
Yeah my thoughts exactly... After half time at the suns game, I sat behind the goals in our forward line, and Witt's inclusion in both how the forward line functioned, and his assist in the ruck made a huge difference. I definitely have him in my rd 1 team and hope he keeps up his great work.

Witts is the one who could surprise. However, Grundy has 3 pre-season games behind him now so will probably get the nod.

My decision is Goldsack v Langdon. I reckon Langdon gets in, but Goldsack is the safer option. THe big decision for the coaching staff will be whether to risk Toovey after only 70 minutes of football in over a year, and whether Sinclair is fit enough.

I decided ultimately that both Goldsack and Langdon get in the side as we probably need a bit more defence. The player that makes way is Fasolo who in my opinion needs VFL match fitness. He was ok in his one practice match, but showed he doesn't have the defensive elements to play half back. I would put him back to half forward at VFL level for a while and get his confidence up. I think he is an important player, but we need a good defensive side against the Dockers.

DaVe86 Goldsack is your sub?

Yeah I reckon Goldy as the sub is a good idea. If we are too tall with Reid/White/Cloke, then we can probably sub Keefe and send Reid down back. Goldsack could come on and play the defensive forward.

Or, if we need to tighten up defence we could bring on Goldsack.

Also, Freo have a lot of 190cm midfielders who I think Goldsack could do a job on. Ie, Fyfe when he goes forward or Mundy.

Also decent insurance considering my team has Sinclair and Toovey in there who are not match fit.

I have rushed Toovey back because he is the perfect match up for Mayne. If Toovey can't play, then Goldsack is the next best I would say. I'd keep Maxwell away from Mayne.

I tell what guys what a pity we have lost Marley Williams .He is the grunt player we will sorely miss in our back half.
Perfect foil for the elite small forwards of the comp.He may not be around all season unfortunately

Bucks must keep a very tight ship in the back line.otherwise we will get cut to shreds.
I am still not convinced with Sinclair has the pace but that's it .
Clinton young very good if and only if he can stay on the park.
Keefe should get better and more confidant the longer he stays out on the park.
Toovey great welcome back but will take 1 season to get back to the swing of things coming off a knee injury.
Nathan Brown has to stand tall this season.
Maxwell tries very hard but unfortunately will get tired as year waers on.Not his fault its the waer and tear on the body. Will be his last year.
Pity we didn't have Sharenberg, freeman.broomhead ,Williams ready to go.Yes young players but youth and speed inspires the older brigade.

Thing is with freo they will try and bottle us up.
But we play in Melbourne no travelling which is good.
If we hit them hard from the start we can shell shock them,
Plus they cant count on Gumby helping Pav.
I think if we get the jump on them with relentless pressure I reckon they are still not up to scratch in their fitness we can win this one.

I think about this going to sleep every night

B. Maxwell Brown Toovey
HB. Sidebottom Keefe Young
C. Beams Pendlebury Lamumba
HF. Blair White Swan
F. Elliott Cloke Reid
Foll: Grundy Ball Adams

HB: Sinclair Keeffe Lumumba
C: Adams Ball Beams
HF: Sidebottom Reid Kennedy
F: White Cloke Eliott
R: Grundy Swan Pendlebury
I/C: Fasolo Caff Young
SUB: Goldsack

I like the idea of having Goldsack sub can play anywhere and come on and do a role for us. I would have Blair, Thomas, Dwyer, Seedsman and Williams all in if they were fit/able to play. But I look the look of this team for round 1.

He sounds like he is finally ready. He's been on the list a few years now. I just hope Buckley leaves him out there long enough to develop is rucking game in the seniors.
It sounds like he destroyed the suns. Round 1 for Witts is surely eminent now.

All pre season, I've been slightly more happy with the thought of Reid playing forward. But our defence is seriously a worry ATM with a number of players unavailable there, plus Keeffe underperforming during the preseason.

Since watching the suns game live, and seeing first hand how everything changed from the second half, and the impact Witts had to the game, I'm starting to think that we should keep Reid back now.

This year could be the coming of age for young Wittsy, and I think he deserves a spot in our forward line, just like how they lined up for the start of the third qtr.

He could help Grundy and White out in the ruck, and when the time comes, sub either Witts or Grundy off for Fasolo to add some speed later in the game - a little like what the hawks do.

If worst comes to worst, then Reid goes forward to replace him.

Well its certainly an experienced outfit but I just can't countenance Marty Clarke over Sinclair or Langdon. Marty's 1:1 stuff just isn't good enough at the top level any more.

Just heard that Walters may be rubbed out for Round 1 for the dockers after he got reported for rough conduct in the trail match last night.
Will do us a would of good if he doesnt play! Hes the 1 player I'm most worried about for next friday!

With limited video footage for the MRP to consider and the fact that the charge was laid directly by the field umpires you'd have to think he's gone. The MRP will not be wanting to overrule the field umpires unless video of the incident clearly shows they got it wrong.

P.S. If the photo they've got on the Freo board thread about the report is anything to go by I reckon he's gone. Looks pretty damning!

I watched the game last night and he was one of the few Dockers players that seemed switched on.

I haven't watched any Collingwood NAB games, but Freo's skills are rubbish and I can't see them fixing that up in a week. They look rusty and the opposite of "one touch". Hope you smash them.:thumbsu:

I hope you're right but its pre-season, i dont think we can read to much into it

Anyone know if Fasolo is playing in the VFL today? Could mean the difference for a round 1 starting or sub spot.
