It's in the rule book, it's a drop ball (thanks to our resident referee FC).

We're struggling... probably need Mascherano on and Spearing off... a bit more steel in midfield since Lucas and Spearing are getting smashed...

Meh.

Don't blame the balloon for more comical defending. Damage was done by the time it got there.
You do have a point, but goals aren't always scored due to poor defending. Reina had Bent's shot cover and the balloon deflected the ball past him. No matter how you look at it, that obstacle interfered with play.

If the rules state that the onus is on the keeper to 'burst' ballons in his penalty box, that is a absolute joke of a rule! The keeper's responsibility it to protect his net.

Geez, football has to wake up and realise that we're in the 21st century!! A video review should be conducted at half-time with the goal rescinded. We have video technology to decide these things. You can't expect a ref to make a decision like that at the spur of the moment.

I hope we hear MUCH more about this.

Absolutely right. Massive gap left in the centre of the pitch allowed the Sunderland counterattack which led to the goal. Where the hell were Lucas and Spearing? Oh, that's right, being the b-grade midfielders they actually are.

As expected, a load of disjointed rubbish from our lot.

Spearing has been shocking.

Why is he still on?

But in other news, that's some great midfield depth we've got. :thumbsu:
If Spearing is the best we've got coming through the academy then god help us. At times like this it makes you realise just how special the likes of Gerrard, Owen, Fowler and Carragher were to be local lads who came through the academy and who actually could cut it at the league level.

Yes, 'Gogalicious on, Babel off. Good to see his performance vs Australia was a one off. The one time I don't want him to play well and he plays well.

Just swell.

Being fed by Sneijder instead of Spearing and Lucas makes a huge difference pal.

The whole team has been out player today tbh. Could have easily been 3-0 to them.
