It's a poor result but I'm not sure we could have done much more. We had about 30 shots, 20 corners and 70% possession. It's pretty hard to play against and through a team willing to place 11 men behind the ball. We had to shoot a lot from long range as they were camped in our penalty box. The early decision not to give the goal was a terrible decision. Yeah we should be beating Stoke at Anfield anyway but in these games often the hardest goal to score is the first. If you can go 1-0 ahead it changes the whole game as Stoke would have had to attack which in turn opens up more space for us to exploit and chances are we would have scored a few more. I have no doubt that had the goal been given we would have won very comfortably.

You had at least half a dozen (and probably more) very good chances inside the box.

And your long range shooting was poor, you had more than enough chances and didn't really even test the keeper once.

Against a semi-decent defence it should be difficult with 10 men behind the ball but against Stoke's? You had more than enough time and more than enough chances.

Same shit, different season/day

We should've won comfortably even if there was a wrongly disallowed goal. It's just same old problems. Just to prove Man Utd was bad and we got 3 points against them, we screw it up against Stoke.

TBH we should've been doing far better in terms of creating clear cut chances but we know we're not very good at that

I think it's fair to say that Stoke defended very well and stiffled our chances very well.

That being said we weren't without our chances either and it just shows that our strikers are really lacking touch at the moment

Torres - Still looking a little rusty and apart from the winner against Sunderland hasn't looked the same yet this season
Keane - Looks like he's really feeling the pressure of the 20 million price tag as the goal drought continues. Needs a goal soon
Kuyt - 83 Goals in 122 games in the dutch league probably speaks wonders for the quality of the dutch league

The way we kept taking shots from long distance and spraying it in all directions into the crowd was reminiscent of Riise at his best

Just a few thoughts -

1. Was amazed Bennynoon didn't start this game as this is exactly the type of game he should be starting (He seems to start most other weeks). Looked lively when he came on but not given enough time.

2. What does babel have to do to get a start? At the very least Kuyt should have been taken off earlier to give Babel a go.

3. Keane looks like pooh at the moment. Very disappointing start - any half chance he has fluffed thus far.

4. Agger needs to play next to Skrtel and Carra at left or right back. Agger can play the ball out of defence.

5. We would have to be the worst corner takes in the league - Twenty corners and only 2 or 3 would have been decent. Surely they can work on that a bit more?

6. Oh and that was a terrible decision to disallow gerrards goal. It was not for offside as the linesman did not make the decision. Rafa at his press conference had no idea why the goal was disallowed. Hope the ref can enlighten us as that was very very costly.

Bad draw BUT both Chelsea and Man U have dropped points at home so not a disaster but we really need other plays to step up and start scoring.

Let's not try and sugar coat it. That was a disaster. You cant expect to win the league and drop points to Stoke at home. We should have won. Gerrard's goal should have stood. It would have opened up the game and I have no doubt that we would have won 3 or 4-0 because Stoke would have had to have come out of our 6 yard box.

But we had some great chances, particularly Torres who you would have put your house on him scoring a couple of times but he is just a bit out of form.

It isnt the end of the world as after tonight we might only be a point off top spot depending on what happens in the Chelsea, United game. But had we taken care of business, we would be sitting nicely on top of the league, putting pressure on other sides to catch us. Instead the pressure is on us.... again!

God! They frustrate me. What a wasted opportunity. This is the last I will speak of it. It's too annoying to talk about.

Right, onto Crewe on Tuesday. Id expect Cavalieri to come in for Pepe, our reserve keeper is usually given the cup matches. I'd love to see Insua get a game at LB and bring back Agger! Masch I think will come back in, maybe Plessis will get another chance. Not sure who else we will play. Cant see us resting Gerrard or Torres. Torres needs to find the net to get back into some form. Keane may start for that very same reason too. I can see Kuyt being rested.

You know who I thought we could have done with yesterday? Jermaine Pennant. Scary, I know, but it would have been quite handy if some of our one thousand crosses came in from an area within 10 yards of the byline.

Whats the point of him getting to the byline, you know he is only gonna hit the first defender.

After his pathetic "performance" for the reserves and the even more pathetic interview he gave after it, it's safe to say he won't be back.

The stupid **** should've joined Blackburn/Stoke. Both bids accepted. His own fault.

Yeah he will rot in the reserves til January I would think. Then we will get maybe 4 million for him from someone.

Yeah but they are not as big a threat as United and Chelsea.
I tend to think that Liverpool would be better served focussing their energies on staying above the chasing pack (Villa, Man City) than focussing on a pretty unattainable dream of catching up to Chelsea and Man United.

Why accept mediocrity? Nothing wrong with beleiving and having a crack, it's not like we're miles off the pace

Thats the problem.

You are.
We finished 11 points behind the leaders last season, the gap wasn't that huge. We lost less games then Manchester United last season

If we convert more of those draws/losses into wins we can match it with the leaders.

Chelsea/Manchester United didn't drop points they shouldn't have?

Not to mention they both had very worse injury runs than your team.

Wake up kid and have a nice glass of reality juice.
