The Big-Six Clubs - definitive list here (NOW BIG-SEVEN)

In a remarkable turn of events, the Western Bulldogs will be one of at least six AFL clubs who draw on their own funds to survive, outside of player payments, during the game’s financial crisis.

The Bulldogs have confirmed that, due to their balance sheet – which includes substantial cash reserves – they will be among what the AFL is referring to as ‘‘unassisted’’ clubs who will self fund during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

The other five clubs known to be funding their operations, besides player payments, are West Coast, Richmond, Collingwood, Hawthorn and Adelaide.

There we have it folks. We have the big six, then the minnows like Gold Coast, Essendon, GWS and Carlton.

Sorry minnows, only supporters of the big six should bask in their own reflected glory and splendour here. No surprises the big clubs are the ones who have appeared at the pointy end of the season (Grand Finals) in recent years.

Steady on!

The Dogs and Crows are only set till August (but still much stronger than the minnow 12)

They key is to stay solvent for 12-18 months (ala Hawthorn, West Coast, Richmond and Collingwood)

The Cats sadly are well and truly up the duff :(
So your saying the Corona Virus may have a positive effect on football, we can rid ourselves of that joke ground down at sleepy hollow, of course this will then end the Cats finals for at least 44years, Id like to keep the club around for the laughs though.

lol Freo, half of the largest state in the country to themselves yet still have to take their own homemade lunch to school. :$
We even gave them their best defender to help them out.

I mean, I expected that Carlton would be in this boat, but Essendon? :$:$:$

This shocked me to be honest. 2nd biggest football market with only one competitor in it, they should be as safe as Richmond and Collingwood. :$ Paying out Lyin probably the biggest factor. 🤣

Good point.
What kills footy faster, Ross Lyin or Corona?

People refusing to support a purple jumper franchise allergic to success surprises you?

Well when the alternative is a burger-shilling franchise with drug issues and a waiting list for membership...

Impressive that the Bulldogs still have cash reserves after all the payments they've made to the umpires.
The Saints should start selling salt. Make it the Big 7.

In The Producers, the accountant Leo Bloom figured out you could make more money with a disaster than you could with a smash hit, depending on how many lonely old ladies Max Bialystock could rope in to over-invest in their play.
The Western Bulldogs are Springtime For Hitler.
Translation.

Western Bulldogs have a bad accountant......
Or a second set of books, as Carlton did 20 years ago.

Pretty amazing to think that with 3 flags in 15 years and western Victoria to itself teh Cats have just $14m in NTA and less than $2m in cash equivalents

They can barely cover Dangerfield's marketing contra

campaigner this is the Bay can you take your math somewhere else thanks.

The big six concept derives from loser clubs who haven't won anything since the 1980's. They need something to value their club by

There is a big 1 - Geelong. Then arguably Geelong & Hawthorn. Then again arguably Geelong/Hawthorn/West Coast.

That's as far as it gets when it comes to AFL success

What kind of stupid clubs don't just hide their cash and beg for handouts? Do they not understand capitalism?
Six clubs that have made a Grand Final in recent years
