Pick 8 - Muttiah Muralitharan

Then I got the next pick who is

Pick 9 - Michael Bevan

I know they probably aren't the greatest selections but my problem is that I don't know much about cricket 20+ years ago.

Pick 10 - Glenn McGrath (Australia)

Pigeon was a fantastic one day bowler. Sides were often happy to take 20 runs off his 10 overs and limit the wickets because they were well aware of the damage he could cause if they tried to attack him. Should form a brilliant opening ball partnership with Wasim Akram in my team.

With my previous pick, i selected a Sir who was a dominating bat, and a more than decent bowl

With my current pick, i select another Sir who was a dominating bowler, and more than a decent bat

Pick 11 - Sir Richard Hadlee
http://www.espncricinfo.com/newzealand/content/player/37224.html

The finest cricketer New Zealand has produced, Richard Hadlee was a bowler of devastating control and intelligence: the first to 400 Test wickets; and one of the four great allrounders of the 1980s

Was a toss up between him and another All Rounder Sir

EDIT: Bit quick there saintkildaman, gotta wait for me to have my pick first. Luckily i didnt want Warne :D

My second player is MS Dhoni, a phenomenal one day batsman (averages 51 at a SR of 88), as well as being my wicketkeeper.

When Anil Kumble handed over the Test reins in 2008, he (Dhoni) celebrated with a home victory against Australia. And in 2011 came the biggest triumph of all, the World Cup, on the back of an exceptional batting performance in the final and bold leadership throughout from Dhoni.

My next two selections take care of my talismanic and inspirational all-rounder (to serve as my captain) and my spearhead; one of if not the most aggressive fast bowler in history.

Imran Khan - http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/40560.html

Few would dispute that Imran was the finest cricketer Pakistan has produced, or the biggest heartthrob. Suave, erudite and monstrously talented, he gave cricket in the subcontinent real sex appeal in the 1970s and 1980s. As such he and TV completed the popularisation of the game in his country which Hanif Mohammad and the radio had begun. Thousands, if not millions, who had never dreamt of bowling fast on heartless baked mud suddenly wanted to emulate Imran and his lithe bounding run, his leap and his reverse-swinging yorker. He also made himself into an allrounder worth a place for his batting alone, and captained Pakistan as well as anyone, rounding off his career with the 1992 World Cup.

Curtly Ambrose - http://www.espncricinfo.com/ci/content/player/51107.html

Fee fi fo fum. A giant of the game in every sense, Curtly Ambrose was the most lethal pace bowler of his generation. Like his predecessor Andy Roberts, Ambrose didn't say much, refusing countless interview requests with the motto "Curtly talk to no man". Yet his silence seemed only to magnify his achievements - and his menace.

My third choice is AB DeVilliers. I want to have two guys in my middle order that have high averages as well as a high scoring rate, and Dhoni and DeVilliers are perfect. As well as that, DeVilliers is one of the best fieldsmen going around, and he can also keep if required.

A batsman of breathtaking chutzpah and enterprise, as well as the skills and the temperament required to back up his creative intent. A fielder able to leap tall buildings and still come up with the catch. A wicketkeeper who is perfectly at ease donning pads and gloves.

Also, having a couple of Saffers in the squad means the support is solid, which will definitely lift team morale ...

My third selection is an incredibly versatile batsman, able to adapt to vritually any batting position and situation. He is also one of the finest batsmen to have played one day cricket, and has gained a well deserved reputation as an excellent finisher. Also an exceptional fielder and an all-round nice guy.

Michael Hussey.

Wickets help a lot in ODI's and especially with the new pill, so to open things up for the Gak Attack XI I am picking Waqar Younis.

May have had a higher economy rate than some but he took wickets, with 416 of them at 23.8 in ODI's.

The man who really put the reverse into swing. Waqar Younis bucked the 1980s trend of pitching fast and short by pitching fast and full. Not an obvious recipe for success until you factor in prodigious late inswing, which was designed to smash into the base of leg stump or the batsman's toes. In his youth, he was one of the fastest ever. Waqar's surging run was a glorious sight - and an incredible strain on his body

Mostly good picks so far (hard to go worng to be fair). Couple have maybe pulled the trigger a bit early on certain players and there's one or two jets that I was sure would be gone by now.
There is certainly a trend to pick recently retired or current players, I guess not knowing exactly how it will be judged a lot of us seem to be going that way, as the stats are a lot more impressive with the higher averages and strike rates for batsman. I am yet to get who I have in my mind after each of my picks so people thinking along similar lines. Very different tactics too by the looks of it as in the order people are picking their teams. Was even discussing my last pick at work with the blokes there haha, thanks for running it Kyptastic.

Nobody seems to be stealing many of the players I had marked for my team, so that's dandy. Though I was considering Dhoni and De Villiers pretty strongly for my keepers spot...and they ended up on the same team! :p

Yeah, it is difficuly, especially when a new draft is started from scratch. My tip would be to look at players who have performed well at World Cups - being able to say that so and so can perform on the big stage under pressure may help swing an argument your way.
