Thought I'd give some quick impressions of the teams so far. Have looked at four squads, will look at the rest once everyone's picked this round.

Freo Fan Mundy
Top Order Batting
Sourav Ganguly
Shane Watson
Middle Order Batting
Michael Bevan
Lance Klusener
Front Line Bowling
Muttiah Muralitharan
Dennis Lillee
Support Bowling
Watson, Klusener, Ganguly, Bevan
Intangibles (Keeper/Fielding/Leadership)
No out and out spectacular fielders and obviously still need a good keeper. Ganguly stands out as the best captain here.
Strengths
Lots of bowling options and variety so far. Bevan and Klusener are arguably the best middle/late order combo there is.
Weaknesses
Relying a lot on Lillee for early breakthroughs. Compared to other teams, the top order isn't great.
Needs
A strong opening bowling partner for Lillee and a solid number three will make this team a contender. Definitely need a keeper.

Surkin

Top Order Batting
Mark Waugh
Sanath Jayasuriya
Andrew Symonds
Middle Order Batting
Front Line Bowling
Andy Roberts
Glenn McGrath
Wasim Akram
Support Bowling
Waugh, Jayasuriya, Symonds
Intangibles (Fielding/Keeping/Leadership)
Waugh and Symonds are two of the best close in fielders of all time. A couple of decent leaders (Akram and Jayasuriya), but no stand out candidate so far. Still require a keeper.
Strengths
Top line fast bowlers with plenty of variety. Outstanding openers as well.
Weaknesses
Whilst the backup spinners are good, no frontline spinner could hurt. Need some good finishers in the middle order, although Symonds could easily be moved down there if needed.
Needs
Quality spinner should be a priority.

happy_eagle
Top Order Batting

Vivian Richards
Chris Gayle
Kumar Sangakarra
Middle Order Batting
Shahid Afridi
Richard Hadlee
Front Line Bowlers
Richard Hadlee
Chaminda Vaas
Support Bowlers
Richards, Gayle, Afridi
Intangibles (Keeper/Fielding/Leadership)
Very good keeper in Sanga, whilst Viv and Gayle are good close in fielders. Viv has a very good captaincy record and will probably take the reigns here.
Strengths
Top order is very explosive (especially if you decide to open with Afridi and Gayle)
Weaknesses
If Afridi is played at the top, the middle order is really weak at this point in time. Lacking a specialist spinner, but Afridi could play that role in a pinch.
Needs
Could really use an express bowler. An accumulator in the Bevan/Hussey mould would round out the middle order nicely.

saintkildaman

Top Order Batting
Brian Lara
Kevin Pieterson
Andy Flower
Middle Order Batting
Andrew Flintoff
Mark Boucher
Frontline Bowlers
Shane Warne
Andrew Flintoff
Support Bowling
Pieterson
Intangibles (Keeper/Fielding/Leadership)
No real standout fielders here. Flower's a good pickup as keeper, whilst Warne will probably lead this team in the field.
Strengths
Seems a very even batting team with some very good players, although few absolute standouts.
Weaknesses
Bowling is very far behind most other teams at this stage. Some more batsman who can role the arm over effectively would help.
Needs
Bowlers, particularly pace bowlers. Can't rely on Flintoff as your main fast bowler.

I probably need a bowling all-rounder and I was hoping Kapil Dev would slip through to this round, but seeing as Gak just managed to grab him before me, my next choice is:

Ian Botham

Averaged 23 with the bat at a SR of 79 (good for that era). Solid with the ball, an average of 28 and a SR of 43. Will bat around 7 or 8 and use his power hitting to finish an innings, as well as bowl his ten overs at an economy rate of 3.96. Also, Botham was a very good fielder, in the slips and outfield.

My next pick is a class player who will thrive in the local conditions and provide a solid and often dashing option in the middle order. He is also a terrific fielder, and with Sobers will terrorize opposition batsmen in close. An average of 40+ in ODIs was an excellent return for his time.

GREG CHAPPELL

Upright and unbending, with a touch of the tin soldier about his bearing, Greg Chappell was the outstanding Australian batsman of his generation. Though he had an appetite for big scores, it was his calm brow and courtly manner that bowlers found just as disheartening.

Finally picking my wicketkeeper...and there aren't many with over 10,000 ODI runs! He is the ultimate wall and will play as the rock in my team; in which the quicker batsmen can play around him.

RAHUL DRAVID

Initially seen as a liability in the one-day arena, he retooled his game over the years to become an adept middle-order finisher. The heaves and swipes didn't come naturally, but by the time the selectors eased him aside in early 2008, he had more than 10,000 runs to his name in the 50-over game. There had also been a lengthy phase where he donned the wicketkeeping gloves, helping the team to find a balance that was crucial in the run to the World Cup final in 2003.

Nice pick up on Chappell.

I'm also choosing an Australian batsman from a previous era,

Dean Jones

In the 80s, he was considered the best one day batsman for Australia, and one of the best in the world. Fantastic outfielder as well, lightning quick and a rocket arm.

Cricinfo articles sums it up well. Very happy to get him this late. Vastly underrated cricketer.

Dean Jones wrote the book on one-day cricket - literally. He played a new game in which he walked down the pitch to fast bowlers, ran frenetically between wickets and turned outfielding into an attacking occupation. He was a natural showman who was for a while as popular as any other player in Australia. Yet he was also a classic cricketer who once made a triple-century for Victoria and remains their record run-maker. He averaged 46 in Tests, and in the tied Test at Madras in 1986-87 played what Bob Simpson said was the greatest innings for Australia.

Shane Warne's retirement wasn't dealt with very well by the Australian selectors. For the past few years there's been a revolving door, picking up and throwing out spinners time and time again. However, thanks to this man, no such thing occured in ODIs. The great western postie, with a deadly wrong-un, great fielding and a massive grin makes his way into my team with a very good strike-rate and economy, and a habit of taking wickets at crucial times. Bats well too, seeing as he started Shield cricket as a batsman.

Brad Hogg.

Was wondering if someone would go Hogg. Very handy in all areas of one day cricket.

To my next pick. I ask the judges not to judge this man on his recent form, which has been nothing short of shithouse! My next pick is Virender Sehwag.

I wouldn't of risked his unreliability if I didn't have Amla and Ponting around him in the order, therefore I can take the risk of this man who can take attacks apart. A career strike rate of 104... says it all really. Add to that he can bowl handy part time spin.

Rest of the breakdowns:

thorne89

Top Order Batting
Sachin Tendulkar
Greg Chappell
Rahul Dravid

Middle Order Batting
Imran Khan
Garfield Sobers

Front Line Bowlers

Curtly Ambrose
Michael Holding
Imran Khan

Support Bowlers

Sobers, Chappell, Tendulkar

Intangibles (Fielding/Keeping/Captaincy)
Nothing stands out too much in the ways of fielding, whilst you've sacrificed a bit of keeping skill for the better batsman in Dravid. Few captaincy options, although I suspect Imran will be your pick here.

Strengths
Strong fast bowling depth. Top order can all play long innings at a decent clip.

Weaknesses

Lack of a frontline spinner, although Sobers will be pretty versatile here depending on the pitch.

Needs
Other than the spinner, a real goer at the top of the order will complement Tendulkar nicely. Probably need to look for a specialist batsman for the middle order as well.

courtjester

Top Order Batting
AB de Villiers
Matthew Hayden
Dean Jones

Middle Order Batting
MS Dhoni
Ian Botham

Front Line Bowlers
Joel Garner
Allan Donald
Ian Botham

Support Bowlers

Intangibles (Fielding/Keeping/Captaincy)

Should be a decent catching side this. Dhoni should get the nod as captain, although there may be better options still out there.

Strengths

Top order batting all bat at a good clip. Garner is a beastly one day bowler, excellent pick there.

Weaknesses

No spinners will hurt. You lack the spare parts bowlers most successful teams need.

Needs

A good spinner should be your first priority. You may want to consider an opening partner for Garner, as Donald preferred to bowl first change in one dayers.

Glinn McGraw

Top Order Batting
Adam Gilchrist
Jacques Kallis
Zaheer Abbas

Middle Order Batting
Michael Hussey

Front Line Bowlers
Shane Bond
Brett Lee
Brad Hogg
Kallis

Support Bowlers

Intangibles (Fielding/Keeping/Captaincy)
Some good boundary riders here with Lee and Hogg. Gilchrist is a very strong keeper and will probably also captain the side at this stage.

Strengths

Bond and Lee will take lots of wickets quickly. Kallis and Abbas complement the power of Gilchrist nicely.
Weaknesses
Hogg is very good, but you probably left a better option in the pool who would have kept the runs down.

Needs
A bowler or two who can keep things tight at one end. May want to try to get some middle order batsman who can fulfill this role as well.

Gak Attack

Top Order Batting
Ricky Ponting
Hashim Amla
Virender Sehwag

Middle Order Batting

Shaun Pollock
Kapil Dev

Front Line Bowlers
Shaun Pollock
Waqar Younis
Saqlain Mushtaq
Kapil Dev

Support Bowlers

Sehwag

Intangibles (Fielding/Keeping/Captaincy)
Ponting is the standout fielder here. Currently lacking a keeper, but lots of captaincy options. Ponting most likely, but Dev also could be considered.

Strengths

Ponting and Amla will complement Sehwag nicely. Younis and Pollock are also a really strong opening combination.

Weaknesses
Relying a lot on bowling all rounders for your middle order batting at this time.
Needs
Must get a strong middle order option - a batting all rounder would be perfect.

Seriously a lot of my potential picks just got taken very recently so I had to think my selections for a while.

Craig McDermott - Need someone to partner Mr Lillee, Aussie attack :) Good enough SR and Eco.

Michael Clarke - Keeping an Aussie theme going, will probably come in at number 3 or 4. Also keeping the theme of batters who can bowl as well, Clarke isn't the best bowler but his spin can be more than handy. Great fielder, good captain and gets fit chicks.

I had another one in mind but ill see if he holds out. Still need that WK but eh, theres still a few left.

Personally I rate him as the third best ODI spinner of all time behind Mulari and Warne. Took 132 wickets at an average of 26 and an economy of 4. Was also a handy lower order batsman.
