Biggest problem has to be the wings. Please Roy put Johnson on the right and Babel on the left.

And why is Aurelio not getting games? The guy is good enough when fit and he is fit(is he not?)
Agreed, i would've rather a winger to a striker.

Not only did we not get one but we almost sold Babel who can play both!

Honestly Roy needs to mix things up.. Put Gerrard(with Mereles/Lucas pairing) or Glen on the right, Aurelio or Babel on the left...do something!! because the team has limited creativity.

I'd play Babel wide and stick he there for the year. Put Milan on the pine. Tell Ryan to hug the line, give space for Gerrard and Cole through the middle. Playing him on the left gives him a chance to cut inside and shot with his right. He may not be consistent but he does has talent and consistency can come from playing games. Hard to play at a high level when you are getting 20 minutes here, 5 minutes lthere. Pump games in him, not like we've got anything to loose this year, The club is pretty much looking to next year already anyway.

Back-up striker, 'when' Torres does get injured, Kuyt is an option. He's kind of played out of position wide right for a few years. Remember he did come over from Feyenoord as a centre forward. While it was the Dutch league, 71 from 100 games is a fair strike rate. He's smart and works hard, not a terrible option if you ask me. Ability to hold the ball up, could give something when Gerrard, Raul and Cole make runs. I'd also get rid of the defensive midfielder, we need to show something, Lucas and Poulsen are a waste of space. Put some kind of flair into the game, we won't be getting a great deal of results, at least try to play something attractive.

----------------- Reina ----------------
----------------------------------------
--------- Carragher - Agger - Paul/Aurelio
Johnson --------------------------------
---------- Raul ------- Gerrard ---------
------ Kuyt --------------------- 'Twitter'
-------------------- Cole --------------
--------------- Torres -----------------

Milan, Lucas, NGog, Pacheco, Maxi, Squirtel,
Paul/Aurelio, Jones

Give Johnson space down the right, which he's pretty much doing now anyway. Kuyt can push in a little and help feed Cole and Torres, as he's not getting past many left backs.

The telling thing really is though Kuyt and Ryan are pretty much both playing out of position. What can you do though? Rather have them than Maxi or Milan. Aurelio is an option down the left, maybe even Cole.

Too confusing...

I like this, but Aurelio can play left mid and is obviously a natural left sided player. Is aurelio slow? I can't remember.

Yeah too slow for a winger, although it's not like we have pace anyway.

Would love to loan or get a free agrent left winger, any available?

Oh, did you hear El Zahr's gone to PAOK on loan?

Farewell NEZ, I hope you enjoy the souvlakis.

On the subject of wingers, I'm sure all of you noticed that in the second half against West Brom, Jovanovic and Kuyt swapped wings. So we ended up playing inverted wingers just like what Roy used to do with Fulham with Duff and Davies.

So to answer the question of who can play on the left, I'm guessing Roy thinks Kuyt, Gerrard, Maxi, Cole and of course Babel are all capable of playing there.

I know. But hopefully come January, we have new owners, 150m in the kitty and stadium construction underway and we re-sign LDV for half the fee.

Im starting to think we wont get sold now too.... Why would anyone pay what the yanks think we are worth, our players are worth not even half of the other big clubs, theyd have to fork out heaps on players, stadium and the way the club is now would it be a good investment???

Liverpool supporters deserve better than this.. just get things done!!!!!!

So the window is shut. I think we actually went backwards....

In
J. Cole
Jovanovic
Shelvey
Wilson
Meireles
Poulsen
Konchesky
B.Jones

Out
El Zhar - loan
Aquilani - loan
Degen - loan
Insua - load
Nemeth
Cavalieri
Benayoun
Mascherano
Dalla Valle

Did we get better or worse?? Im thinking we lost far too much quality in Mascherano and the completely needless loaning of Aqua. I think we went backwards.

I think we should of kept Aquilani, Insua and Dalla Valle. We have gone backwards because we didn't sign another genuine striker and it was what we needed so badly!

The only reason Aquilani is gone is to try and boost his sale price next summer, cause we would of got nothing this time around. I don't see him coming back to Liverpool either. Personally I would of like to have seen him prove his worth with us and not bothered with Poulsen.

Although Insua is only out on loan, I hope he has a good season at Gala and I hope we take him back once the loan is finished, the lad has been treated poorly since the Fiorentina deal fell through.

Dalla Valle, no idea. I wish we had of just given Fulham more money for Konchesky or not bought him at all.

Cole, Meireles I think are decent signings for us this summer though, Shelvey and Wilson are good young prospects (but we've lost a couple at the same time), and the jury is still out on Poulsen and Jovanovic.

One positive is we didn't sell Pacheco but the winter transfer window isn't that far away.

What would be our best side to put on to the pitch now?

Aquilani is gone, can't see him ever playing another game for Liverpool. Hopefully he has a good year at Juventus to boost his sale price for when he leaves permanently at the end of this season. I also would've kept him to see what he could do coming off a full, injury-free pre-season but it's not to be.

Disappointing that we couldn't sign a striker. We've had months to sort it out and still couldn't get something done. Having said that, I'm not too disappointed at having missed out on Joe Cole, who has had his own injury problems and in my opinion, is not that good anyway. For now, we'll just have to make do with Torres, a hopefully-improved Ngog, and potentially use one/more of Kuyt/Babel/Jovanovic if need be.

With the new financial rules any new owner is going to struggle putting money into the club to fund transfers.

For a start any funds for transfers over and above operating profit have to be in the form of equity, rather than a loan. From memory thats limited to around £15m per year max.

That'll rule out most institutional investors.

Final Squad (provisional - exc. U21's):
Keepers (3): Pepe Reina, Brad Jones, Charles Itandje.

Defenders (8):
Jamie Carragher, Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Soto Kyrgiakos, Aurelio, Glen Johnson, Stephen Darby, Paul Konchesky.

Midfileders (10): Steven Gerrard, Raul Meireles, Christian Poulsen, Lucas Leiva, Joe Cole, Jay Spearing, Joe Cole, Dirk Kuyt, Maxi Rodriguez, Milan Jovanovic.

Fowards (3): Fernando Torres, David Ngog, Ryan Babel.

Best starting XI (IMO) Doubt many would agree
-----------------Pepe-----------------
----------Carra --- Agger ----------
-Johnson-------------------Aurelio-
----------------------------------------
-----------Raul - Gerrard-----------
Maxi ----------------------------Cole
--------------------Kuyt--------------
------------Torres--------------------

Subs: Jonws, Skrtel, Konchesky, Lucas, Babel, Pacheco, Ngog.

I would also love to see a 3-4-2-1 tried out (maybe aguainst Blackpool at home 2-Oct-2010). Although I know there is 0 chance.
-----------------Pepe-----------------
----- Skertel - Carra - Agger -----
----------------------------------------
----------- Raul - Gerrard ----------
Johnson --------------------- Babel
---------- Cole -- Pacheco ---------
---------------Torres-----------------

Also for thoes wondering (if you didnt already know) why the reason the Konchesky 'saga' went for so long, it was because it went down to the wire to try sign Wayne Bridge, in which we obviously failed. Also Liverpool Profits £10m from transfer period.

October 6th is officially my last hope for our club.
Refresh my memory. :) Is it to do with the RBS? Taking over maybe?

£16m deal has been agreed so it wont go up or down, Although I reckon he will do very will, after our medical staff 'fixed him'. He will score the winner against us in the Europa semi final.

I can't see any 'White knight' on the horizon (thanks for nothing Tom, George and Broughton) which means one of two things happening;

1. RBS forecloses on the Yanks and LFC effectively become a State-owned football club under administration. Automatic 9 point penalty from the FA. Probable fire sale of assets - ie. players.

2. The bank re-negotiates the terms of their loan with the Yanks - and we stay in the current state of limbo.

I think the Bank will want to avoid the scrutiny that the first scenario would bring - over and above getting part/all of the 237m debt (plus penalty interest) paid back on 06/10/2010.

Our starting 11, for me is top four material ( still think the left wing is sus)

Its our depth that will **** us up, and always ****s us up.

I really hope Babel comes in when Torres is injured.

Liverpool have sold some serious quality in the last 2 years and have done virtually nothing to replace them. Players like Pepe, Torres and Gerrard are eventually going to crack and walk too and then they are completely ^&%$ed! Cannot believe how short sighted the owners are. The club will be worthless by the time they are forced to sell it. May even be in div 1. Also find it hard to beilive that the bank will sit around and watch this happen. At some point it is going to threaten their stake in the club. Going to be a long season.
