I will be in Liverpool in a few weeks time and naturally I will be seeing us play at Anfield and also do the stadium tour.

So, getting a little exicted now and was wondering if anyone has been and how was your experience?
Ive been quite a few times. My first experience at Anfield was back in the 03-04 season against Southampton but I came away gutted. We were attacking the kop first half and I was in the Anfield Road end. We got a corner literally straight away from kick off, but the Saints cleared and it fell to Omerod one on one with Hamman. I love Didi but he isnt blessed with pace and Omerod went round him and slotted home 72 seconds into the match.

We never looked interested for the rest of the game and in the second half it got worse as Svensson ghosted into the box from a corner and headed truly. We got one back with 15 minutes to go through Heskey but we lost 2-1. I would have to wait several years before seeing my first win at Anfield.

My next match wasnt until the 07-08 season when I went to Anfield to see us play against Barnsley in the FA Cup but despite and early lead through Kuyt, a second half header from Foster levelled the scores. Then late on right in front of me sitting in the Kop, Howard lost possesion after a decent penalty shout, got back up, won back the ball and rifled it into the bottom corner right at the death. Again I go to Anfield and again we lose. We put out a good side that day and should never have lost, there goalkeeper, Steele played a blinder. I was beginning to think I was a curse.

A week later I was back at Anfield for a league match against Boro and my curse seemed to continue with Tuncay coasting into the box 9 minutes in from a free kick and nodded home. I was thinking I should just leave as I was a curse. But then Fernando Torres happened. I was in the Anfield Road end right near the Boro supporters and a quickfire double from Torres silenced the Boro fans and the Liverpool fans started up a ... "You're not singing, you're not singing, you're not singing ANYMORE!" :D

Torres completed his hattrick in the second half and a late Downing goal made it a 3-2 win to Liverpool for my first win watching the boys.

Next up was a trip to the Reebok where we won 3-1. An own goal from Jaaskelainen gave us the lead, it was a howler too. Weak shot from Gerrard that was actually going wide and somehow Jaaskelainen managed to put it into his own net. Babel and Aurelio completed our scoring and Cohen got a late one for them.

Back to Anfield I went for our next match which was a glorious 4-0 smashing of West Ham. Another Torres hattrick and one for Gerrard. And a week later I watched the boys crush Newcastle at Anfield 3-0. Pennant, Torres and a Gerrard screamer were the scorers that day.

Then I was back at Anfield just last week to watch Torres score his volley to give us a win against WBA. Ive also got tickets for the Steau Bucharest game at Anfield next week. Which will be my first European night at Anfield. Im pretty ****ing excited.

Sorry to bore you with my stories. RevDog, you're gonna ****ing love it.

It was indeed, bizarre goal. I can only remember that goal and the absolute screamer Pennant scored on the volley from outside the box. I wasnt there for that goal, but those two are the only goals I remember Pennant scoring for us. Anyone know if he got more?

The volley against Chelsea, the bizarre goal against the Toon, I'm certain he scored one more goal, but I cant remember who it was against at this point.

Re: Jod; I don't hate the club legends - Jamie Carragher was absolutely sensational when Rafa first came to the club, I had him as on of the premier central defenders in the world in 04/05 and 05/06 - was immense with Sami at the back. They dominated, our defence in those days was phenomenal.

However, it's clear at this point we have better players that Carra in those positions, there's nothing more than a playing going on to long when he knows he's on the decline and it's hurting the team.

I don't mind having Carragher as back up, he's more than handy as a 3rd choice central defender, but I think he should be able to see that for the good of the team, he should step aside and let Skrtel and Agger play centrally.

Will with only 21 senior players on the list these kids will now get a run in the 1sts or atleast get to train with them, Rafa was a bit of a c*** when it came to giving yout a chance he apparently snob many of his players and wouldnt give them the time of day, bar a couple of his select favorites (Gerrard, Kuyt, Masch, Lucas, Torres and co.).

Youngsters like Pacheco, Ayala, Shelvey, Wilson, Kelly, Ince, Bruna, Eccleston, etc. will be given the opportunity to warm the bench, get a 15 min cameo apps and the odd start. This exposure will be great for them and Woy has a habbit of working wonders with youth players.
Pacheco, Kelly, Darby, Spearing, Ayala and Eccleston all got first-team experience last season, not to mention Insua breaking in to the first team. Rafa completely changed our youth set-up during his time there and we are gonna see a lot more kids coming up through the ranks in the next few years because of it.

Oh and it's disrespectful to call him Woy imo, something you'd expect from opposition fans.

As for the game against Brum, this is the team I'm hoping to see -

Reina
Johnson Carragher Agger Konchesky
Maxi - Meireles - Poulsen - Jovanovic
Gerrard
Torres

I'm one of the few Lucas fans around, but the Poulsen/Lucas partnership is a complete disaster, and I feel Roy is gonna prefer his new boy ahead of Lucas. Meireles has to start imo.
Agger is rubbish at LB, and it looks like Roy doesn't have a lot of faith in Fabio so Konchesky will be making his debut.
Kuyt's injury's hopefully means Maxi can get a start on the right.

Generally all fleeting, meaningless 5 cameos - when the usual rubbish was unavailable.

When push came to shove, he'd always play Degen, Voronin etc. instead of giving kids a good opportunity.

McShooter I don't understand how you could want to play Maxi ahead of Babel.

Yes Babel is an idiot but he has pace and talent.

No use having some creativity(Maxi) if you're that slow and in the EPL let alone playing on the wing.

Personally if Maxi needs to be played it should be behind the striker with Gerrard - Mereles behind him.

Each to there own though..

When was the last time we beat Birmingham in a league game? We've knocked them out of some Cup competitions in the last 5-10 years (including a 7-0 win at St Andrews) but we never seem to beat them in the league. Hard to see that changing this weekend...

Frustratingly true, unfortunately.

Poulsen, Meireles, Gerrard, Jovanovic, Babel - Virtually no creativity there at all. Maxi is a very clever player and offers something different, Babel just runs around like a headless chook most of the time.

Against a team like Brum especially, I think Maxi offers a lot more to the team than Babel... Babel would be effective off the bench.

Plus, I think Maxi links up well with Torres.

Could have been useful if teams parked the bus against us but the situation we're in is bad unfortunately..

We don't get much time on the ball and the opposition has the ball for far too long against a team that wants to finish top 4.

If he plays hopefully he can take this chance in Kuyts absence.

The inclusion of Meireles should allow us to dictate the centre of the park more, and Brum aren't really a possession team. I just like what Maxi could bring to the table.

I want to see Babel given a chance, a new manager to prove himself to with a clean slate could be just what he needs, but if he is to start, I'd prefer it to be more centrally.

The thing about Kuyt is, a lot of the time he can cover for GJ when he goes bombing forward, Babel is hardly the kinda player to track back.

Either way, it's gonna be a c*nt of a game, just hate playing Brum especially at there shi*ty ground.

I like Maxi on the right in Kuyts absence although I would love Pacheco but what are the odds of that? I also think babel should get a start on the LW now, give him 2 or 3 games, see if he matches or betters Jovas games so far to see who is a better fit. Although it won't happen because babel is marked down for a strikers role.

Yeah, doubt Babel will be given opptunity on the wings, IF, massive IF we do get new owners, for me a gun left winger will change our squad a lot, as Jova can come off bench and becombe an impact man, which is what i think he can be good at.

Where are you at the moment?

Next Thursday should be good. Steaua Bucuresti are strangely popular at your gaff for some reason.

lookng foward to this, dont think ince, bruna or ecclestone will ever be good enough. but im looking foward to seeing pacheco, ayala, shelvey, wilson and kelly.

pacheco i think will be a shining light for us this season, ayala i doubt will get much time with 4 centre backs in front of him, plus competition with wilson. should have probably loaned him out, and or sold big kyg. really hoping wilson gets atleast half a dozen starts, only seen bits and pieces but he seems the type to adapt to any level very quickly.

shelvey will get his chance in the cup, and gradually make his way into the team in the next 2 or 3 years.

kelly should be back up to johnson, dont play carra at right back please roy. plus when aurelio is injured and konchesky is tired, i hope he gets a go at left back.

spearing on the other hand, never up to it.

as for maxi, the problem is he gets back, but it takes an enternity, and then when we counter it takes him a lifetime to get foward and support the attack, by which time the attack has broken down.

Kelly should actually be first choice right back.

Johnson (especially now with Kuyt out injured) should be our right winger.

We're going to need a bit of flair and x-factor against Birmingham.

I'd play

Reina
Kelly Skrtel Agger Konchesky
Johnson Gerrard Meireles Jovanovic
Pacheco Torres

I don't think Ayala will ever be good enough if England, I'd prefer we sold him. He's too slow on the ball.

Since Cole is serving the last match of his ban I would play the folowing to try pierce through that stingy defence. (Gerrard and Miereles are CM's not DM's)

-----------------Pepe-----------------
----------Carra --- Agger ----------
Johnson-----------------Konchesky*
----------------------------------------
-----------Raul - Gerrard-----------
Maxi**---------------------------Jova
----------------Pacheco--------------
----------------Torres----------------

*personally I'd play Aurelio, offers much more goin foward, but Hodgson's a twat.
**not sure if he is back to full fitness following a virus so if not shift Jova to the Right and play Babel on the left.

A 2 striker formation could definatly work with Gerrard filling the hole (been in super form for the national side). But Hodgson will probs play 2 DM away from home against Birmingham, so something like this is more likely:
-----------------Pepe-----------------
----------Carra --- Agger ----------
Johnson-----------------Konchesky
----------------------------------------
-----------Raul - Poulsen*----------
Maxi ---------Gerrard---------Jova
---------------Torres-----------------
*Lucas the better opption but Roy is likely to play his new boys. Lucas is less likely to take us to 10 men when and has a fair bit more pace and much better seccond efforts.

I don't see the point of going defensive against Birmingham since they are ultra defensive themselves. Unless Hodgson is looking for a 0-0 stalemate.

Turan linked with Liverpool again? Damn that story is getting boring now.

He said he would like to play for Liverpool like 2 years ago it's probably just the same quote rephrased.

Latest injury news

Apart from Kuyt, the only other player definitely out of this weekend's game is Fabio Aurelio as the Brazilian contnues to nurse an achilles problem.

"Fabio is making very good progress and is definitely moving in the right direction," said Hodgson. "It was a relatively minor problem but one we had to nip in the bud because achilles injuries can be very problematic."
Only have to look at Brad Johnson to see what an achilles injury can do, nevermind the fact that Aurelio is injured as often as he is, not a good sign for his chances of consistent playing time this season.
