I agree with him actually.

I mean, he should play less games for Liverpool (it's not as if we're paying his wages anyway) so that he can be fit for Spain's WC tilt.

He's 100% correct to be honest.

Nice TiG :p

Hopefully Pacheco starts the next few games. Actually, maybe not otherwise Del Bosque will want him to rest so he can be used for spain in the world cup too.

Hey, we may as well give Reira and Reina a holiday as well.

Let's just rest all of our spanish players until June so they are fresh for the world cup.

Ive heard Reina will go on holiday next week so he is fresh to warm the bench at the world cup. Del Bosque can **** off!

Those were encouraging words from Rafa on Pacheco, hopefully he gets more and more chances as the season rolls on, he has obviously taken Voro's spot in the first team.

On the Europa game, I hope Kelly plays and I hope Pacheco gets a chance. Oh and on a sidenote, has anybody got any stats on Nemeth's time on loan? Games and goals?

AEK fans were raving about him early in the season - then he went to some youth tournament - got injured (when he came back to AEK I assume) - and has barely been fit since. Apparently was back in Liverpool a few weeks ago for treatment. I think he's meant to be back for AEK soon(ish).

The AEK Athens website doesn't have his season stats, but Wikipedia says it's 3 goals in 7 appearances (as of the 28th of Jan, assuming he hasn't played since then).

The AEK Athens website also doesn't have him listed on loan anymore, they have him down as their player and Liverpool FC as his former club...

Another tame performance from City this morning albeit at Stoke, Vieira was terrible all game. I get the feeling they are the kind of side that sometimes get brought down to their opponents level but lift when in big games, could be a tough match this weekend, though I feel it is winnable.

We need to sort out our woeful away record if we are going to finish fourth.

Last season we always won away and this season we can't even buy a win.

It can't be all down to Xabi leaving so the mental hurdle needs to be sorted out.

Once Johnson, Torres and Benny are back we should have plenty of attacking firepower to win most of our remaining matches.

A draw would be an ok result, though.

From memory, their run home in the league is a bit tougher than ours - I'd be satisfied, maybe not happy, but satisfied, with a point from the game.

I think it will be a draw too. 1-1.

Good result for Stoke and a good result for us. I didnt see it but apparently Stoke were robbed, 10 men and they still got in front and then were denied a winner in ET after a Delap long throw was headed in.

Id be happy with a point against City and very pleased with all three. Losing is not an option. But first we have to take care of business in the Europa league.

I think you have to really disappointed with the lack of opportunity for younger players.

You keep playing the same players and you get the same bad football. Really disappointed with the lack of opportunities for the younger players.

Not saying that we needed to have 11 kids out there, but wow - it's really an opportunity missed - and it's so disappointing.

How awful was that?
Unsurprisingly dreadful.

We play some of the worst football in the country.

There's only one tempo - very slow. Nearly everyone on the pitch moves like an old grandpa - and they nearly all lack the skills to play football. But hey, who needs that when you can work hard, and compress space....

Even when competing for a tinpot trophy like this, no young players get much of a go at all. Introducing some of the more talented youngsters would improve this shabby squad immeasurably. But as usual, we stick with the same mob of shite, and we get the same terrible "performances".

Our reserve team play much better football. I'd much prefer to watch them, or our U18s play than the senior team.

Another fairly shite performance but 1-0 will do. We should progress from here. The only upsides to that performance was Babel's cameo was very impressive, why doesnt he play like that all the time. N'Gog was good and deserved his winner and Pacheco getting some minutes and assisting the goal with a great downward header into N'Gog's path.

But that's it. We miss Johnson, Torres and Yoss is Boss.

In some rare good news - San Jose scored again for Bilbao at home to Anderlecht.

In bad news, he's probably going to sign there permanently in the summer.

Was watching Athletic on the weekend against Villarreal, Gerry Armstrong kept saying how Athletic are making inquiries about keeping him.

He's your Gerard Piqué anyway, that league'll be more his taza de té. Or whatever that is in Euskera.

Sure he'll probably suit La Liga better, but he's probably better than Skrtel, Carragher and Kyrgiakos - even in the short term.

I hope if he goes, we get some sort of first option on, or even buy - one one of their numerous excellent players.

There's a lot of quality in that squad. Young quality, too.

Martinez, Llorente, Amorebieta and Munian to name a few.

Aquilani is fast approaching Veron/Shevchenko like flop status, Gerrard should be dropped deeper and Alberto moved forward as that would better suit his skill set.

Commentator Robbie Mustoe was implying we should drop Gerrard back also and that we should have played the 4-4-2 with the second striker. Once again Rafa has disappointed with his team selections, but I was thrilled with Pacheco setting up the goal. Pacheco looks a bit like Maxi Rodrigues and I nearly threw something at my TV when I thought it was Rodrigues coming on instead!

No, it wasn't a great performance from Liverpool, but I thought the Romanians defended well, so I'm happy to take the first-leg win.
