Well, if it is Rodgers, at least we can look forward to an attractive style of play. Loved watching Swansea. We haven't been blessed with eye candy football for a long time, in particular Rafa (however at least he got results), Roy was okay-ish, and the amount of piss farting around under Kenny was unbearable towards the end of the season.

Don't think Swansea's "attractive" per se, they're a defensive passing side really, they keep the ball and move it around well, looks good when their attacking players are playing well, but boring when it doesn't coz all the possession lead nowhere

I do like that sorta style more than the stuff Martinez offers though, so if he can replicate a similar philosophy with better players, then it could be very successful

Source BBC: Swansea manager Brendan Rodgers is expected to be confirmed as the new Liverpool boss in the next 48 hours.
The clubs are understood to be discussing compensation for the 39-year-old, with Swansea likely to recieve a compensation payment of between £4m and £5m.
Wigan manager Roberto Martinez had been in contention after meeting with owner John W Henry in Miami last week.
But attention has since switched back to Rodgers.
More to follow.

Facepalm selection

Pick a manager because he will say yes to you controlling his every move. Thats what Roman Abramovich does to complete failure really. He has had to spend 200 mill+ in all reality to fix the errors his footballing judgment has cost the club.

FSG need to realise this isnt baseball. Dont try and bring baseball philosophies over to football. It is two completely different beasts which have not a single thing in common

Quietly optimistic about this. A lot of people are comparing it to the Roy Hodgson signing 2 seasons ago, but for me there's a lot more to like about Brendan Rodgers. As opposed to Hodgson's primitive, 'small club' tactics of solid, deep defending followed by long balls to the striker, Rodgers has had this Swansea team playing some fantastic possession based football on their way to great results over some of the league's bigger clubs, the highlight of which being a 1-0 win over eventual champions Man City in March in which they really controlled the game.

I am very interested to see how he transfers this to Liverpool's more talented squad, and can see the likes of Lucas and Henderson (our best players in terms of rapid short passing & recycling possession) benefitting greatly from Rodgers' input. It's just a relief to finally have this sorted, hopefully we now start to see some moves in the transfer market over the coming weeks as I really feel that our squad is only 3-4 top quality signings away from getting firmly back into the top 4. I'd like to see 2 attacking mid's/wingers, a striker and cover for Lucas in that holding midfield postion. Over to you Mr Henry.

You'd be livid that he (or Swansea) tied up Sigurdsson on a permanent deal beforehand. Would have been handy for your lot as Gerrard cover.

For me, it's just lazy to bundle him into the 'small club manager = not good enough for Liverpool' basket. There are small club managers and then there are small club managers. There are those that will always remain at clubs like West Brom and Bolton and there are those who have ambition and play in a technically advanced style suited to the bigger clubs. Brendan Rodgers is one of those managers, and if we didn't sign him up now then I guarantee he'd end up managing one of the other big clubs in England over the next few years. He's already been linked with the Tottenham (when Redknapp was supposedly a shoe-in for the England job Rodgers was the front runner) and Chelsea (considered as a replacement for AVB before Di Matteo took it) jobs over the last few months so I'm glad we've given him this opportunity because after watching Swansea this season and seeing several interviews, he looks to be a man who is going to have a long and successful future in the game. He wouldn't be the 1st manager to get his big break coming from a smaller club, one Rafael Benitez was plucked from obscurity at Tenerife to join Valencia where he won 2 La Liga titles in 3 years before joining the Reds.

For me the clincher is this fantastic quote when quizzed about potentially taking the Chelsea job in March:

"I am trying to build my career not destroy it."

Brilliant.

BBC saying that he's signed:

Brendan Rodgers has agreed a deal to become the new manager of Liverpool Football Club.

The 39-year-old is understood to have signed a three-year contract at Anfield and his appointment is likely to be officially confirmed within 24 hours.

Liverpool will pay Swansea City between £4m and £5m in compensation to secure the Northern Irishman's services.

Liverpool, Chicago Bulls.
Lucas and Hendo come to mind. Shelvey is also pretty good with his short passing and keeping the ball ticking over. Gerrard of course will be fine.

Carroll you would think will not suit it. He should be sold, no idea why we even bought him.

Rodgers is the new manager, he will fit Carroll into our style because he did show some form at the back end of the season and now with England showed some good form.

what a gun Rodgers is.
His performances for Swansea were amazing. Played the best football in the EPL with the lowest budget.

When you hear him speak he is very impressive.
Not suprised we got him, everything the owners wanted in a manager.

Funny to know that when Dalglish was sacked he told people close to him that Rodgers will be appointed, got it spot on, and looks like he was there no 1 target all along.

some nice quotes from Harry Rednapp:

When the Swans lost 3-1 at Tottenham on April Fools' Day, Spurs manager Harry Redknapp was so enchanted by the artistic merit of their passing game that he recommended: "If we sent every youth team coach in the country to watch them train, we would turn out more players who are comfortable on the ball and technically gifted.

"Brendan will manage a top club one day, for sure."

Everyone rates this guy, cept the majority of LFC supporters

I rate him really highly. he was under mourinho like AVB and both have seen success with their own clubs - sure swansea didn't win the portugese league and the uefa cup but his football has the country talking, he will leave swansea as a premier league club (who will stay up for a while) and this has now landed him a job at Liverpool. anyone who brings up roy because of something as painfully simple as "dey both cum from small clubs" needs a blade through the heart.

Which players at Liverpool most suited (or unsuited) to Rogers passing game?

Carroll?
you clearly don't watch much carroll because he's been excellent at holding the play up and keeping posession and moving/working with the likes of suarez and gerrard (and young and gerrard in that friendly). then to actually answer you.. we shall start from the back.. reina skrtel agger johnson enrique henderson lucas........

Our backs should be quite apt as well, particularly Enrique, Kelly and Johnson.

A few players may be found out though.

I'm getting a bit more excited by this signing.... will be interesting if nothing else

He's nothing like Woy ****ing Hodgson, he isn't a tactical dinosaur who lies and sprouts crap pubilcly for starters

Carroll's fine, he isn't a real target man anyway, far better on the deck than with the head most times. He'd benefit from it a lot more if we don't hoof it up to him

Carra you'd think is done now that Rodgers is here

Sign Sigurdsson

Expecting them to go in for the young Welshman Joe Allen over Sigurdsson. Allen will provide excellent cover for Lucas and is much more confident on the ball than Spearing, should cost no more than 5m. Sigurdsson fills that CAM role which we currently have filled by Gerrard & Shelvey and while he's a quality player, I don't think he's enough of an improvement on those 2 to warrant forking out money that is more urgently needed elsewhere in the squad.

Anyone who has watched much of Carroll in the last year and a half would struggle to say he's been excellent at anything.

But the little loopy thing on the end of my post means that I was asking a question not making a statement. And the question was "suited or unsuited" so I dont know why you've presumed I think he's unsuited.
