Starting to develop a theory that Jordan Henderson simply isnt a smart footballer. Came on this week and got completely lost which has happened a few times this season. Im pretty sure when he came on he was supposed to be marking Pilkington and when Pilkington drifted more or less into a central role Henderson didnt follow or adjust his game accordingly.

I unlike apollo think he has a future but I also believe you have overpaid, hes not ready for Liverpool and that something is quite obviously not right with him atm because he is having a massive downswing from his performances with Sunderland last year. Think the club needs to keep him away from the right and or defensive roles and simply play him in a purely attacking role in the middle. Let him do what he has done best for Sunderland in the past and that is link up with the front men. Hendersons star rose due to the amount of key passes he was able to make in the final third. Apart from his performance verse Man United how often has Henderson received the ball in the final third? Not many times. If the club doesnt simplify his role and play to his strengths he could develop into your version of Anderson. A bright yet hugely disappointing and underperforming talent

He scored a very nice goal against Bolton and made the run to get clean through one-on-one at Stoke but stuffed up the couple of chances that fell his way in that passage of play. Has put in some decent crosses but in general I agree with you, he is more suited as a central attacking midfielder than out on the right.

This is just hilarious. You do understand how stupid that sentence looks right. I love how you have absolutely no idea what role he was given when he came on. Like absolutely none. Zero, zilch, nada. NONE. Only people at the club, Hendo, and Dalglish would know exactly what role he was playing when he came on. But you decide to presume why he was brought on and then vilify him for not doing the made up thing you think he came for. Just ridiculous.

So then this is strange, because you follow a completely ******ed sentence with one I completely agree with.

Hendersons problem (at the moment) is that he's a crab. Two thirds of his passes go sideways or backward, so if you're expecting him to be a creator a la Gerrard (who he was compared to a lot a year ago) you're going to be disappointed (although I'm sure he'll develop that side of his game).

He is generally on target with his passing, and you'd think maybe his job is to get the ball and give it to a creative option like Adam or Gerrard, but getting the ball has never been his strength either.

When he first broke through at Sunderland he played a lot on the right, and I think thats where he's going to have to be played for Liverpool in the next year or two. He's not the best crosser, but he does create chances cutting infield from the right side.

FWIW, my mackem mate reckons he's been useless since his England debut. I'm putting some stats together to see exactly what has changed about him since then.

Its a safe assumption. Henderson was chasing the ball and eventually Pilkington the entire time he was on the pitch. To say he came on to play a attacking role is just plain senile considering he made more tackle attempts then he did successful passes. He came on to do a defensive job a player like Bellamy cannot really add or do and he didnt do it. The stats and zoning charts more then back that up

He even drifted centrally when Pilkington did and moved wide right at the same time he did according to the zone charts. If thats not a defensive role on Pilkington then what is?

Agger and Coates just makes sense as a pair against these blokes. Coates big enough to handle the likes of Crouch and Jones, Agger to sure up possession at the back since most of it will be coming straight at the back four

I worry if we play Carra, he instinctively sits deep, and Stoke is just allowed to attack our box at will

Perfect game for Spearing, too. Him and Lucas sure it up. We must look to keep clean sheets first and foremost, we always have the ability to score

Will wake up early to watch it, could ruin my morning

Apparently the team is:

Kelly Coates Agger Johnson
Kuyt Spearing Lucas Maxi
Downing
Carroll

Apparently it's Downing playing off Carroll, although I'm more inclined to believe Maxi will play off him

Gerrard Suarez Bellamy Henderson Carra etc all on the pine

But that back four is ace, ****ing ace

Well starting XI's actually with all of Agger Coates and Carra, Suarez and Maxi with Carroll, Lucas Spearing and Hendo

Why would you play Agger at left back with Carra centre back is the question. If you're gonna do something like this, might've as well went for 3-5-2, kick out Hendo and play a wing back like Enrique or Johnson

Suarez, I'm sorry for ever bagging your finishing.

His 1st goal is the goal of the season for mine, it bent more than Ricky Martin

And brilliant cross by Henderson for the 2nd goal, although all his crosses were shit until that point. All is forgiven though

Mistake aside, Coates looked good. Agger was supreme at left back. Spearing was immense in midfield and Carroll was very very good, too. All round good performance. Just buzzing from the win, what a comeback.

And **** off Stokes fans you pottery twats. Booing Suarez seconds before he scored

Thats right, I've watched the City match, and am just waiting for the two remaining games to finish before going to bed.

I'm not even going to wait up for the Liverpool highlights. I'll see them tomorrow. I doubt one good cross will turn any player into "the best" crosser but I guess I'll find out later.

Try not to be too defensive though, my post on Henderson wasn't an attack.

Is Suarez getting his mojo back. His first goal was simply ******ed. Just class finishing, then the second was an easy header but youve seen many a striker head that right at the goalkeeper. He did it perfectly to go back across goal. Great early ball in though from Hendo. Agger was very good and I was impressed with Coates despite his one mistake which turned into a big mistake because Stoke scored. He will learn from that though. If in doubt, kick it out. All he had to do was knock it over the line and set up again from the throw in. I was impressed with him though.

Suarez though... class.

Hopefully now we can start capitalising on games, great to see us come from behind and suarez.. just wow..

Very similar to the goal that torres scored against chelsea but suarez obviously better, plus a great nutmeg!
