**** off Stoke you horrible *****. Boo Suarez and then he shows you what you are supposed to do with the ball at your feet.

And **** off Tony Pulis, reckons Carra should have been sent off when he didn't even touch Etherington and the muppet was rolling around like he'd been shot. He handled the ball and got a yellow for it.

Thinks the disallowed goal should have been allowed and Crouch should have had a pen when he missed from 3 yards. Crouch missed because he is shit not because of any foul play. Did he forget Coates getting pulled down in the box by Huth?

Serious question, why wear a ****ing baseball cap at night?

Just wants "a level playing feild". Bit ironic consider those ***** never cut there grass and change there ****ing pitch size for every ****ing game, lets not forget the ball-boys handing out towels so the Stoke players can dry the ball but don't offer the same to the opposition.

Wish they'd **** off back to the championship where they belong.

It was funny how they seriously shortened the pitch today. Anything for an advantage. Then Pulis goes and whinges about that

Woodgate rugby tackled both Suarez and Coates and should've been two pens, but let's not talk about that

This side starts against the owl **** for mine

Reina
Kelly Agger Skrtel Enrique
Gerrard Spearing Lucas Bellamy
Suarez Carroll

Dunno if the Carra sub at half time was tactical sub or not, but it certainly worked, we pushed higher and looked far better defensively. Totally untroubled 2nd half

Great result to beat Stoke at their place. I'd quite happily swap victory in this game with 3 points in the premiership match if I could :(

Encouraging performance by Coates, Kenny needs to keep giving him game time. Agger looks like he is fit and raring to go (touch wood!!!) Hendo's cross showed just what he is capable of.

Let's hope we can continue our good form this weekend and combine it with some accurate finishing.

Have usually been impressed with Spearing in the sense that he knows his limitations and keeps within them. Keeps it tidy and doesn't do too much wrong. Love his passion and attitude as well, crunching tackle right near the end was great.

Poor mistake from Coates, not really sure what he was doing but you knew straight away that they were going to score from that mistake. Was pretty solid otherwise though and probably should have had a penalty (I bet Pulis didn't mention that one).

Henderson's crossing was poor all night but he put in a beauty and we win the game. Agger was fantastic at LB and it was good for Enrique who must have played close to every game to have a night off.

Suarez as we all know is class. It's just a shame that he couldn't finish off that move in the first half where Sorensen pulled out a terrific save.

What was up with Reina's kicking? Seemed to horribly overhit 3-4 that just went straight through to Sorensen or for goal-kicks. It's noticeable because he's usually very reliable in that regard.

Good win, especially coming from behind at a place like Stoke. As if they shortened the pitch!

Well a shortened pitch meant Reina's kicks were usually on the money, turned into going long.

Not sure what was with the Carragher substitute. You'd have to shoot Carra 4 times in the chest for him not to see out a match. So maybe it was tactical? As for that 11. I dont like Spearing in there and Gerrard wont play wide right. I like your 11 but just move Gerrard into central midfield to replace Spearing and play Kuyt wide right. Winning.

Adam hasn't done enough to warrant a starting place over Wee Jay Spearing
They are both different players though. With Adam you get a terrific range of passing, he can be pretty creative and switches the play with aplomb. His set pieces are worth 10 million according to SAF but he is certainly handy at a dead ball and corners. Is also a goal threat. But he can go missing for periods of matches, does give the ball away a bit too much for my liking and doesnt get back enough and tackle enough.

Then Jay is the opposite. Keeps it simple, rarely gives the ball away, gets stuck in and breaks stuff up, tackles and chases. But useless around a dead ball, no creativity going forward and no real quality with his long range passing and never troubles the scorers.

With Lucas playing, why play Spearing next to him, it just results in too little creativity in midfield.

Spearing has a decent range of passing. The ball to Suarez for the first goal was perfect and I remember when he came on against Real Madrid two seasons ago he was pinging balls all over the place, although, we were amazing that day and Madrid were shit.

I just think against Stoke we need the energy that Lucas and Spearing bring to the table, and it certainly worked. We bossed the midfield today.

Spearing's legs and work rate gave us exactly what we have been lacking, Lucas loves him around. He's Lucas's legs.

Plus his ability on the ball is far better than most give him credit for. He doesn't play Hollywood passes, but he moves it quick to the likes of Suarez, Carroll or the widemen. That alone is enough. Plus he gets forward, keeps the forward play ticking by spreading balls out wide.

Adam plays the occasional good ball, but otherwise completely useless without the ball. And we've been getting overrun in midfield this season coz he refuses to do any work defensively. Plus he only takes right side corners, Gerrard takes left sides, we're favouring the inswinging corners. And he doesn't take that many freekicks

Spearing gives us a far better balance in the side

Carra had a yellow card so probably didn't want to risk him being sent off us being 1-0 down and all at that stage.

Yeah fair point, but the kicks seemed to be well overhit; i.e., would have been too long even on a regular-sized pitch. Still, I'm sure that at least partly explains it.

Will it work against better sides though. To break down the best defences in the league you need some creativity, something unexpected. You wont get that from Spearing. I love the lad but creativity is a premium. It's not by chance that create most our goal scoring opportunities when we go through Suarez. That's because he is so creative, you never what he's going to do, outside of the boot crosses, backheels, slide rule balls, nutmegs, he just does it all. But then I guess you just need Spearing to pass it 5 yards to Suarez.

I dont know im confused with our midfield. The only person I know has to be in there is Lucas. If were playing a flat 4-4-2 then Gerrard has to play because, well he is our best player. But if were 4-4-1-1 then Gerrard can sit off Suarez and Lucas gets a partner. Adam, Henderson, Spearing, they all have there pluses and negatives. I think Spearing was perfectly suited for Stoke away, but id rather Adam play at home against Swansea or something like that.

Different horses for different courses. I thought KK's team sheet was just about perfect to combat Stoke last night though so kudo's to him.

Had to laugh at Pulis' press conference, it rivals SAF's press conference post champions league loss against Bayern Munich in the delusional ranting stakes.

Play Spearing against the likes of West Brom, Stoke etc etc the little scouser works his socks off and play with real passion. Not the most skilled player around but more then makes up for it with work rate. Obviously won't cut it in games against your Citeh/Spurs etc.

Against better sides, Spearing's game is exactly what you need. Against better midfields, you ain't gonna get the time to ping passes and try look pretty like Adam does. You need to be able to fight out possession and break up play

Spurs game for example, Adam was so useless and wasn't sighted on the ball, until he got himself sent off of course. It was a game made for Spearing. Got outfought and had no game off the ball to stop the likes of Modric and Parker

Luxury player at best is Adam, his game might help against lower sides, but every top side needs a midfielder like Spearing. Plus Gerrard hasn't played well in a midfield two all his career, would be perfect for Stevie or Adam if they're allowed to do their thing with Spearing and Lucas providing the base

So we spend 25 million on two central midfielders and then realise the best option is the one we had the whole time in Spearing. I still think Spearing is limited as a footballer though, I mean were not gonna win the league with a central pairing of Spearing and Lucas surely...??

Mate I dont even think Kenny knows what our best combination is yet. Like you say Lucas is the only constant within our midfield. Look at our midfield from last season to our midfield now, it has changed so much, they are all still learning from each other and growing as a team.

I'd still prefer Gerrard played further forward, easily his best position playing off the striker. I thought it was evident against Norwich that the rare ocassions he got further forward he was linking up with Suarez really effectively. There was this beautiful one-two played between them right after Norwich equalized and Suarez' lay-off was just a tad heavy but Gerrard was right onto it, unfortunately the keeper gathered it.
