Sounds like Brewster is injured. Landed awkwardly in a U23s game (possibly on his ankle) and got stretchered off while using oxygen. Is now in hospital getting assessed.

He's been tanking like couti.
Best to just get players like that out of you club
Phil was tanking???

Geez. He's definitely worth 142M then!
Griezmann rumours lol :drunk:
Some people rightly calling out the conflict of interest in Sky promoting the rumours while Sky also own betting agencies where people then plunge their money on that outcome...

There isn't much to investigate really. Most of the incident was caught on camera. Kenny blocked part of it when Holgate reacted but this was also surely heard by Madley who was inches away and possibly Lallana / Kenny. The FA must surely have all their statements by now. If Firmino hasn't been charged by early next week I would expect that the FA have decided he has no case to answer.
FA just doing due diligence to say they investigated a racist comment claim even though 99.99% certain Bobby gets cleared.

Interesting that I did see Holgate might be under investigated himself for some homophobic tweets he sent early in his career.

I know we're Liverpool fans, but:
  • I'm pretty sure they would've said if the investigation wasn't going anywhere. It must be ongoing. Someone said they aim to finish such investigations before the next game, which doesn't leave much time.
  • There's no way Holgate just made it up. That's stupid, and it's obvious on the video that Firmino says something and Holgate reacts to that far differently than he did to the rest, and it happens just as Firmino is obscured by the camera. But they may have other angles they're looking at. Or there are none and so they will try to mediate it.
  • If the accusation is the N word or a derivative of that, then it's a corruption of the original Latin word for 'black', 'niger', pronounced nigre, which carried on fairly directly in Spanish & Portuguese, 'negro'. Suarez said something like 'Negrita'.
  • There's a good chance the ref was thinking about what he was going to do card-wise and so may not have heard it given the amount of crap going on, and he may have thought Holgate's accusation meant that he thought it was said earlier.
  • Yes, Holgate should've been carded, although it wasn't the only time that game where the ref was lenient.

FA should investigate whether Holgate's action for pushing Firmino over the fence warrants him a suspension. Can't believe nothing has happened to him, not even a yellow card.

A decision to charge a player happens pretty early on after an allegation doesn't it? I would have thought the FA have enough material in their possession to decide if they wish to proceed with charging Firmino by now or very shortly.

Also Kenny & Lallana were all in close proximity to Madley when whatever happened off camera was said. They didn't react to Firmino's language.

A decision to charge can only be made on the weight of evidence. The evidence is presumably unclear or disputed.

As we know, Madley was right there, looking almost directly at Firmino when whatever was said was said, and we could see on the field later than he told Holgate that he didn't hear anything, which Holgate appeared to find that hard to believe. So it's an investigation, because Holgate is adamant, and also the only one who was really locking eyes with Firmino at the time.

Madley is mostly concerned with ensuring it isn't a physical stoush. He was also contacted by Lallana at that moment and turned towards him. He then looked back to see if more people were coming from that way, or perhaps the linesman was in his ear and he started turning to look that way (probably not that). He had also just run in at quick pace to get between them. It is also the Liverpool Derby, in the cup, after Firmino has been shoved him into the crowd - so 50,000+ people were yelling. Also, both Kenny and Lallana were talking to Firmino at the time. So it's believable no-one heard what Holgate heard.

Whatever. The point is that it's ridiculous to think Holgate in the heat of the moment, mid-way through trying to give his best 'hard man' look at Bobby, suddenly decides to make a very serious accusation because he wants to avoid a card; a card most refs would've given him anyway so there isn't even any logic to it. That is fantasy stuff. The sort of stuff an online troll would claim, but online trolls are FOS.

And going back to Madley, as soon as whatever happened happened, he suddenly felt Holgate pulling his shoulder and complaining about Firmino. The shoulder-pull is totally not on, but the accusation is serious. With that going on, plus everything else, concentrating on any one word that may have been said in that cacophony, while with a newly incensed Holgate yells, is going to be hard. So it's an investigation.

Pretty simple investigation to me. Get complete statements from Holgate, Firmino, Madley, Lallana, Kenny & the 4th official who was on the mic. Compare it with known video footage, hire professional lip readers. If there is no evidence that matches Holgate's claim apart from his own kill the investigation.

I actually think Keita might be the missing link and Cout will not be missed as much as some think. Liverpool play too many attacking players IMO and a dominant central mid who can help out in defence which Cout was not is the missing piece.
I dont know about that. Completely different players. Whilst Keita might be a missing piece, we would obviously prefer to plonk him in midfield next to Coutinho and behind the Fab Four. But we cant cos Coutinho ****** off like a little dickhead.

Positives
Provides the set piece stuff we've lost from Cout's exit.
Gives the squad a point of difference, being a genuine left footed winger or central mid.
Agree that's he's quicker and more of a pass & move guy (as you alluded to in an earlier post).

Negatives
Doesn't have the rocket shot from distance and the super elite dribbling skillz of Cout (although not many in world football do).
Question mark re how he operates against parked buses, including his ability to pick a keyhole pass to unlock a packed defence
He is very slight and small in stature; not sure whether this is great considering Naby is a bit of midget as well

I'm pro-Lemar BTW, would take him at 60M euros.
Agree with all that apart from that he is small and slight in stature. I dont think that's a problem as Cout is a midget anyways. So it's same same on that front.

I'm pro-Lemar because for me he is the closest like for like for Cout and is still young enough to be really, really good.

A professional lip reader who speaks Portuguese was hired and said what Bobby said was not racist. It was along the lines of "son of a bitch" IIRC.

Yeah Lemar is ideal although the club isn't exactly beating doors down to sign him right now. Couple of rumours that 55m would get the deal done which I don't believe otherwise I reckon we would have signed him by now.

It's what was said off camera that is disputed. That's where evidence from Firmino / Madley / Kenny / Lallana comes into play.

So a company registered as NK8 Limited in the last couple of days in England. Naby Keita is one of two directors. Not prepared to put 2 & 2 together, but the timing of this is interesting. Klopp was asked in his press conference the inevitable question about Keita coming now. If his body language is anything to go by,he'd make a good poker player.

I thought he’d already agreed to join Juventus...

Emre has now suggested that he will wait until the end of the season before making a decision on his future.

“First of all there are still many games with Liverpool to concentrate on, but I hope to be able to stay healthy and go to the World Cup in the summer.

“We have been in a good way and we want to try to continue winning as many games as possible and hopefully that can mean having a good run in the FA Cup as well as the Premier League and the Champions League.

“We want to win a trophy. We are full of belief that winning a title is something this squad is capable of achieving and we will give our best.”

“It’s a big honour for me to play so many games for the club in just three-and-a-half years.

“Reaching that milestone is something that I am very proud of. Not too many people play that many games for a club like Liverpool by the age of 23 and you can’t do that if you are not a good player.

“I’m very thankful to all the trainers, the manager and all the staff here for the part they have played in helping me to achieve that because without them it wouldn’t have been possible.

“I am always my own biggest critic and although I am pleased with my development in these three-and-a-half seasons I know there are a lot of areas that I can still improve.”
Seems hugely unlikely but I really hope we can somehow sign him and keep him at the club. It cant be difficult. Just offer him more money than Juventus. Surely we can do that.
